MAMAMOO Hwasa undergoes police investigation regarding her obscene performance controversy

MAMAMOO's Hwasa (Real name: Ahn Hyejin, 28) is revealed to have undergone a police investigation after being reported by the parents' association for her provocative performance at Sungkyunkwan University Festival. The police plan to determine the lewdness of her performance and decide whether to proceed with a prosecution in the near future.

According to reports from Yonhap News on the 10th, Seoul Seongdong Police Station summoned Ahn at the end of last month to question her intentions and background of the performance.

In May, Ahn performed at Sungkyunkwan University Festival for TVN's Dancing Queens On The Road. During her performance, she licked her fingers and made a gesture toward a specific body part. Although this scene was edited out from the show, it caused controversy on social media immediately after fan-cams of the performance circulated online, with some people debating whether it was overly provocative.

In June, the Student-Parent Association filed a complaint against Hwasa on charges of obscene performance. The association claimed, "Hwasa's actions were suggestive of perverted sexual relations, enough to cause shame and disgust among the witnessing public."

The police have summoned the complainants and Ahn for questioning one by one and are reviewing whether the controversial performance is subject to criminal prosecution. They also have been collecting relevant information from the company and other sources for legal assessment.

The offense of obscene performance applies when it occurs in a location where an unspecified number of people can witness it. This offense can result in a punishment of up to one year of imprisonment or a fine of up to 5M KRW, detention, or a penalty.

-I hope she will be more careful because this is South Korea...

-There are a lot of lunatics in this world. Is it that serious? I'm dumbfounded. If you really care about your kids, shouldn't you be checking their phones first? You can easily see this kind of clip on their Youtube Shorts. I mean, there are a lot of worse clips there, though? You can't stop people from posting that on Youtube, but you're picking on Hwasa only because she's a celebrity?

-Did she really have to do that at a university festival stage though?

-I personally think what Hwasa did wasn't impressive at all, but suing her was crossing the lines... If that's the case, the police should be catching prostitutes first to begin with...

-I agree that Hwasa's actions crossed the lines and I f*cking hate crotch-grabbing dance... But I don't think it's that serious to report to the police...

-I personally don't like what she did, but I can't believe there are people who actually reported her to the police because of it... It must be really tough for Hwasaㅠㅠ

-I was listening to the radio when this came on the news;; Is it really that serious?

-I agree that her performance was unpleasant to watch... But I didn't expect her to get sued for that...

-People who press charges are way more disgusting. They probably don't realize they're a social menace themselves.

-If it's a university festival, doesn't that mean all the audience are legal adults? What's the problem then?

-The audience is college students... Why are their parents miding their businesses?ㅋㅋㅋ

-I would totally understand parents pressing charges against her if she performed like that in front of minors, but she performed in front of college studentsㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-I agree that her performance was really unpleasant, but is it really that serious until she had to be questioned by the police?
