Local residents are protesting against the construction of a mosque near Daehyeon-dong, Daegu, where Kyungbook University is located. They are even creating a campaign that opposes religious activities that take place in the residential area. Most muslim residents here come from Pakistan, Indonesia, and Nigeria. There are over 80 of them, they are International students who are taking Master and Doctorate degree in Kyungbook University.
September last year, four residential areas in Daehyeon-ro granted the permission to construct mosque, which falls into the 2nd category of neighborhood living facilities. The mosque was about 264㎡, it is originally a Korean-traditional house. On November 2014, 5 foreigners purchased buildings and performed religious activities in the back yard. On September last year, 6 foreigners purchased buildings and constructed a three stories mosque.
Local residents are fiercely protesting against the construction of the mosque, they claim to suffer from inconvenience due to the religious activities that take place. A resident explain, 'It is very noisy because people come in and out several times a day. They also make foods during the festival period and the smell is very disturbing. When they destroy the house, I thought they were going to sell it. It is very absurd to know that they're building a mosque'.
As the number of muslim International students increases, the area slowly becoming 'Islam Town'. The owner of the building next to the mosque claims, 'This area is now rumored as a Muslim residence. Now I can't rent out (rooms) unless if it's to Muslim. As the number of the Muslim residents increase, I worry I wouldn't be able to sell my building at this point"

-Why are you guys normalizing racial discrimination...?
-I've worked with a South East Asian before, they go pray at some times of the days and they also fast at some period of times. Other than that, they're just like us...

-We should accept all cultures and race equally. There's nothing we can do, anyway. It's not like we can kick them out.
