Sung Hyunwoo, who previously competed on 'Produce 101 Season 2,' revealed that he was assaulted by an acquaintance while trying to stop him from drunk driving.
In a video titled 'The story of how I got assaulted while stopping drunk driving' posted on his Youtube channel, Sung Hyunwoo recalled, "I was 20 at the time. I had left the company I was training in and had just entered university. There was a Hyung who I was very close to, he was like a real brother to me. One day, we met and drank. That day, we had a lot on our minds. I needed to find a new company to restart my trainee life, he also talked a lot about his concerns. We kept drinking until the sun came up."
He continued, "I went to catch a taxi to go home, but he said he brought his car and had to take it. He told me to go first and said that he would call a designated driver. Since we drank so much, I was worried. I walked him to where his car was parked to make sure he was okay. But then he tried to get into the driver's seat. I had a feeling he was going to drive himself, so I told him, 'Call a designated driver quickly. I'll leave after I see you go,' but he kept telling me to just go. He was extremely drunk. I knew if I left, he would definitely drive himself, so we argued back and forth until he finally called a designated driver."
He added, "We were talking and laughing as we wait for the driver. Suddenly, he punched me straight in the face. He hit my nose with his fist and suddenly struck my ear. It happened so suddenly, I was stunned. When I lowered my head, blood was dripping down. It hurt so much, but more than that, I felt betrayed. I thought, 'I stopped you because I was worried something serious might happen to you, and now you're hitting me?' I was so angry that I called the police to report the assault."
He went on, "As soon as the police arrived and saw how much I was bleeding, they told me to go to the hospital immediately. But I didn't feel the pain. I was consumed by anger and said I would go to the police station to write a statement first. While writing my statement, I said I had absolutely no intention of reaching a settlement. Eventually, I went to the hospital and the doctor told me I had to be hospitalized for more than a week."
Later, Sung Hyunwoo revealed that he received a sincere apology message from his friend, saying, "If it happened to me now, I would never have forgiven him. However, I forgave him because he was a Hyung that I truly cared about. He even apologized in front of my family. After that, we kept in touch occasionally. He treated my parents well and was nice to me too, but after a short while, he stopped contacting me and we grew apart."
Meanwhile, Sung Hyunwoo gained popularity after contesting on 'Produce 101 Season 2 in 2017. In 2019, he debuted in the boy group Limitless under the stage name A.M.
