The Japanese Ghost in 'Exhuma', Kim Byung-oh "220cm Tall Actor... Not CG"

The identity of the extremely vile character in the movie turned out to be actor Kim Byung-oh, a former basketball player. Making a shocking impression in the latter part of the movie 'Exhuma,' he boasts an overwhelming presence as tall as his 220cm stature.

His appearance is said to be contributing to the success of the film. The movie 'Exhuma,' released on the 22nd of last month (directed by Jang Jae-hyun), surpassed 7 million viewers in just 16 days (as of March 8). It has become the highest-grossing occult genre film in Korea, surpassing director Na Hong-jin's 'The Wailing' (6.87 million viewers).

Kim Byung-oh laughed, saying, "These days, my friends are sending me a lot of messages saying, 'Let's eat sweetfish.'"

"People around me often call me the '6 million actor' or '7 million actor,' but it's quite embarrassing. It's a bit awkward to be called an actor, but I feel good when I hear that people enjoyed the movie. Just the day before yesterday, I was eating sashimi when my friend said, 'Shouldn't you eat sweetfish?"

The scene where he emerges from the grave and chews on a sweetfish is what made Kim Byung-oh's portrayal of the Japanese ghost in the movie even more eerie.

"The sweetfish that came out of the ground and was squeezed by hand was actually alive. It had a strong smell. However, the sweetfish that I chewed on was actually jelly prepared by the art team."

In fact, Kim Byung-oh's presence symbolizes the 'realism within unreality' that director Jang Jae-hyun portrays. By filling in things that can be expressed with CG with actual objects, it added a sense of weight to the viewing experience. Kim Byung-oh mentioned, "When I was cast, I thought, 'Why do they need me? It could be done with CG,'"

"'Avatar' and similar movies have CG that can make small people look like they're 3m to 4m in size, right? So, when I was cast, I wondered why I was needed. However, as I watched the movie, I understood. Ah! This is it! It took 6 hours to put on makeup on my hands, feet, and face, and 2 hours to remove it. That's how much effort was put into the direction."

Director Jang Jae-hyun cast Kim Byung-oh, a former basketball player who holds the title of second tallest person in Korea, to actually realize the charismatic 'vile' tall figure. The goblin fire that appears with the Japanese ghost in the latter part of the film was also not CG but an actual object.

"That goblin fire was real too. It was something big hanging on a crane and spinning around, and the cold set became warmer."

'Exhuma' received heated attention with the passionate performances of actors such as Choi Min-sik, Kim Go-eun, Yoo Hae-jin, and Lee Do-hyun. The behind-the-scenes stories with them are also interesting. Kim Byung-oh said, "Watching the actors' performances gave me goosebumps."

"There is a scene where I approach menacingly and Kim Go-eun starts to tremble and sob, but as soon as we said 'action,' she suddenly immersed herself in the scene, and it gave me chills. I thought, 'It's cool, I want to try acting too.'"

Senior actors Choi Min-sik and Yoo Hae-jin treated rookie actor Kim Byung-oh with warm consideration.

"It was tough to act barefoot and barehanded on a cold day in the mountains, and Choi Min-sik even brought me a portable heater, and Yoo Hae-jin came to me alone, spoke to me warmly, and took care of me so that I could feel comfortable on set."

-Hul... So the fire was real

-So it was a former basketball player who turned into an actor...

-He must be bigger than a door

-It's even more surprising that the fire ball was real...

-220cm...??? Really...?

-The friends who told him to eat sweetfish are so meanㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-It must've been really hard for him to act barefoot in such weatherㅠㅠ

-The character also used two different voice actors. One Japanese voice actor for the Japanese lines and one Korean voice actor for the monster noises.

-The body was Kim Byung-oh's, the face was Kim Minjoon's, and the voice was Morita Takayama's. He's a famous Japanese actor who starred in Detective Conan.

-Both the article and the comments here are really informativeㅋㅋㅋ

-It was filmed in the middle of winter and he acted barefootedㅠㅠ It must've been toughㅠㅠ

-It didn't look like CG anyway...

-He worked so hard... It's a relief that the movie turned out really well.

-It was actually jelly? That's cuteㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-I naturally thought he was a CG... I didn't expect him to be a real human...

Why Korea Doesn't Have Extreme Obesity

Because they will die from complications of diabetes before it gets to this point.
The pancreatic function of Asians is 50% lower compared to Westerners.

-Oh, there was a scientific reason behind it! I thought it would be because of social pressure (self-consciousness) just by reading the title.

-Right... We can't bear it until it gets to that point.

-Oh... I didn't know that

-I bet their spine, knees, and ankles must be really painful

-Pancreas...ㅠㅠ

-Oh, so that's why...

-Right, it's better to die before it gets to that point...

-Weak pancreas... If that's the case, it should've started hurting before it gets to that point.

-Ah... I should manage myselfㅠㅠㅠ

-Our pancreas is like a fragile glas...

-Rather than due to illness or genetic reasons, could extreme morbid obesity like that caused by diet? I'm curious.

-In Korea, while it is relatively less compared to Western countries, extreme morbid obesity is emerging. According to recent analysis, 2 out of 5 Korean adults are obese, and the prevalence of 'extreme morbid obesity' has nearly tripled in the past decade, according to the research. The alarming increase in the prevalence of third-degree obesity among young age groups, particularly those in their 20s to 40s.

-They seem to have everything going well for them, even their pancreas. I'm so jealous.

Netflix Decides to Keep Yoo Ah In in 'Goodbye Earth' Without Edits

Yoo Ah-in will not be edited out of 'Goodbye Earth'.

On the 9th, Netflix stated, "There is currently no set release date for 'Goodbye Earth'. Yoo Ah-in's footage will not be edited out as his character contributes to the whole story. Therefore, it is difficult to provide detailed information about the amount of his footage before the series is released."

Earlier, Sports Chosun reported that 'Goodbye Earth' will be released on April 26th.

'Goodbye Earth' is based on the novel of the same name by author Isaka Kotaro, depicting the story set 200 days before the end of the world after the apocalypse is announced. Directed by Kim Jin-min, known for Netflix's "No Longer Human" and "My Name," and written by Jung Sung-joo. Originally scheduled for release last year, it was postponed due to Yoo Ah-in's drug scandal.

Yoo Ah-in was indicted from September 2020 to March last year on charges of taking more than seven types of drugs including propofol, marijuana, cocaine, ketamine, zolpidem, midazolam, and alprazolam. There are also allegations of evidence destruction and coercion of marijuana smoking among acquaintances.

-Right... He's the main character after all. What a nuisance.

-There's really nothing they can do about it...

-I'm sure there will probably a lot of people who won't watch the series because of him. The staff members must've worked hard on it, so I hope they would still release the series. What did the other actors and actresses do wrong to deserve this...

-It's understandable since he's the main character, but it's really unfair for the staff and other actors and actressesㅠㅠ

-Still, since it's an OTT drama, only those who want to watch will watch. Besides, the staff members and other supporting actors and actresses could still put this series as a part of their portfolio anyway.

-Ugh, I really hate him. Since it's already been filmed, there's nothing they can do. However, I hope he faces the consequences he deserves. He shouldn't be back on TV again, though.

I wonder if this boy group's song from 7 years ago still would've been successful if it was released in this generation

 Winner's REALLY REALLY

Actually, I think it would still be trendy even if it were released now.

It was released in 2017 and reportedly reached 11th place on the Melon annual chart at the time, making it the first song by a boy group to reach 100 million streams.

It also has the part that goes "I like you" that was really famous back then!

-Honestly, even if it came out now, it seems like it would be successful. The lyrics are straightforward, so it would do well anytime. I don't usually listen to songs from boy groups, but I've heard this one quite a bit. I think it's a very easy-listening song.

-If it came out now, it would probably gain even more popularity while trending on Youtube Shorts.

-Absolutely. I still listen to it now.

-It would probably gain even more popularity if it was released in this generation.

-It was indeed a huge success.

-I bet there would be hundreds pouring out on TikTok, like a waterfall, for the "I like you" part

-If it was released in this generation, it would dominate the real-time charts and probably rise even higher annually.

-It's a classic.

-The "I like you" part would absolutely blow up on Youtube Sorts.

-Absolutely possible. Even if you listen to it now, it's not old-fashioned, it's just great. Great songs never go out of style.

-The "I Like You" challenge here would be epic.

-It's a mega hit. If someone just made this a challenge on Youtube Short, it might trend again.

-I still listen to it now, so it's definitely possible.

-It could sweep Youtube Shorts and TikTok, even become memes.

-It could have even been more popular.

-It would have been even more popular. It's a song optimized for short-form content.

-Just listening to the intro gets your heart racing. As soon as you hear it, you know it's the one.

-It would have done even better.

-It did well, but if it were released now, it would probably trend even more on Youtube Shorts and Instagram Reels.

-The "I Like You" part is crazy, but the "How about me" part after it is seriously killer. It was the first time I got excited listening to a song from a boy group.

-The challenge would have been a huge trend.

The price already includes accommodation cost for 4 people in 1 room (2 rooms with 2 beds each, so it's actually 2 people in 1 room) and meals for 2 nights and 3 days. It's going to be held in Wonju, Gangwon Province.

-Seems expensive...

-Considering the fan meeting price, it seems okay.

-If I had the money, I would go...

-Honestly, it doesn't seem that expensive... I'm not a fan, but it seems rather cheap...

-If fans get along well, it should be fun.

-It's not expensive.

-Looking at the schedule, it seems like one night and two days would be enough, so why did they make it two nights and three days?

-It seems decent; it's a personal choice, though ^_^ If my idol does it, I'd go.

-As a non-fan, it may seem expensive, but from the perspective of a fan, it seems much more cost-effective than buying hundreds of albums to attend a fan signing event.

-As long as those who go are happy, it's fine.

-It's a bit expensive, but I might go if my favorite idol does it.

-It includes accommodation, and you're saying it's expensive...?

-But it would be awkward if you had to share a room with someone you don't know.

-Considering everything is already included, it doesn't seem expensive.

-It seems to have good value for the money compared to a fan signing.

-My idol would never do this...

-He sold out all the 300 tickets...???

-It's much better than spending hundreds of dollars just to see someone for a few minutes at a fan signing.

HYBE Bang Si-hyuk receives a salary of '1 won' this year... Instead, receives a bonus of 980 million won.

Bang Si-hyuk, the chairman of HYBE, has been said to receive a salary of 1 KRW (~$0,00076 USD; ~Rp12 IDR) this year.

According to the '2024 Internal Director Compensation Plan' disclosed by HYBE on the 8th, Bang's chairman salary was set at 1 KRW. Previously, Bang received a total compensation of 357 M KRW last year, including a salary of 50 M  KRW, a bonus of 300 M KRW, and other labor income of 7 M KRW.

Regarding the reason for this year's salary decision, HYBE stated, "To emphasize the message of responsible management as the chairman and HYBE's 'Pay for Performance' compensation philosophy, the basic salary was set at 1 KRW."

However, under the short-term incentive system, Bang will receive a bonus of 980 M KRW. According to HYBE, this was determined based on the '2023 Management Performance and Evaluation Criteria' set by the Compensation Committee.

HYBE CEO Park Ji-won's salary has been set at a total of 2 B KRW this year, with 1 B KRW in salary and 1 B KRW in bonus. Last year, Park received a total compensation of 1.52 B KRW, including a salary of 91.6 M KRW, a bonus of 600 M KRW, and other labor income of 4 M KRW.

Meanwhile, as of December last year, Bang Si-hyuk was identified as the wealthiest stockholder in the cultural content production and distribution sector in South Korea. According to a survey by the Korea CXO Research Institute on the ownership of individual shareholders in cultural content production and distribution companies, Bang's shareholdings were worth 3.774 trillion won. Among the 34 individuals who owned cultural content stocks worth more than 10 B KRW, including Bang, there were 12 shareholders of HYBE.

-What the..

-Wouldn't that be a problem?

-So 980,000,001 KRW...

-He's living a really good life...

-Give me some

-That's less than I expected, though...

-Not fun

-He did that to avoid paying taxes, right?
ㄴIt's a complete loss for the company,, it would be difficult to get a good response anyway because the low salary is compensated with bonuses, so I don't understand why they're doing this..
ㄴThen why are they doing that?? Why would they do that just to release a news article about the CEO's salary being 1 won??

-Still, it's an incredibly small amount...
