Kim Soohyun, Yoo Ah-in… K-Dramas shaken by actor scandals

Kim Soohyun is currently facing allegations of having dated the late Kim Saeron when she was a minor, making the release of Disney+ series 'Knock-Off' uncertain. Initially scheduled for broadcast next. month, there are reports that Disney+ is internally deliberating as the public sentiment rapidly worsens.

(Cont'd)

Production officials are concerned that this controversy may lead Disney+ to hesitate to produce K-Dramas in the future. This is because 'Knock-Off' is one of the high-budget productions scheduled for release this year. Disney+ had high expectations for the series, having invested significant effort in global promotion and marketing. An industry insider stated, "With Kim Soohyun rising to global stardom through 'Queen of Tears,' Disney+ was likely aiming for a breakthrough in both the domestic and Asian markets. However, this unexpected scandal threatens that opportunity." When Disney+ first launched in South Korea, it faced difficulties securing K-Dramas because Netflix had already secured long-term contracts with major content producers such as Studio Dragon and Contentree JoongAng.

The rising production costs due to fierce competition are also a burden for Disney+. Once the production costs rise, they rarely decrease. In particular, high-profile actors setting new pay standards. naturally impact other stars with similar popularity. Currently, Netflix is the only platform that can put a brake on these trends. Of course, they are not immune to 'actor risk' either. For example, the movie 'The Match' which was scheduled for release in 2023 was canceled as the lead actor Yoo Ah-in was investigated for propofol abuse. The film changed distributors and nearly two years later will finally be released in theaters on March 26.

Some speculate that Disney+ may proceed with 'Knock-Off' despite the controversy. This is because many penalty clauses in contracts only apply in cases of a confirmed conviction, and dating a minor alone is not grounds for legal punishment. Currently, South Korean law criminalizes adult-minor intercourse under statutory rape laws only if the minor is under 16. Before May 2020, the threshold was 13. Since the court judges based on the laws in effect at the time of the act, Kim Soohyun is not subject to punishment. Even if the contracts include clauses regarding 'causing public controversy,' the. meaning is ambiguous, leaving room for legal dispute.

-What are you talking about? They’re not the only options.

-I'm not going to watch their works anyway.

-Instead of relying on big-name actors and their high appearance fees, they should just focus on the quality of the work.

-Actors are surprisingly pretty easy to replace, thoughㅋ

-There are plenty of actors who are active and not problematic. Losing these two won't make a huge difference.

-The problem isn't just the actors. The industry is also at fault for still hiring them despite knowing the scandalsㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-Who told you to pay that much money for them??

-Isn't Disney+ still pushing ahead with the filming of 'Knock-Off'? It's a series, right?

-If you’re getting paid that much as a lead actor, at least live responsibly and properly.

-The industry will run just fine without them.

-There are plenty of other actors. No need to worry.

-There are plenty of decent actors out there~

-Men.

-Stop hiring criminals.

-The acting industry won’t collapse without them. Stop overreacting.

-Right... He's the main character after all. What a nuisance.

-There's really nothing they can do about it...

-I'm sure there will probably a lot of people who won't watch the series because of him. The staff members must've worked hard on it, so I hope they would still release the series. What did the other actors and actresses do wrong to deserve this...

-It's understandable since he's the main character, but it's really unfair for the staff and other actors and actressesㅠㅠ

-Still, since it's an OTT drama, only those who want to watch will watch. Besides, the staff members and other supporting actors and actresses could still put this series as a part of their portfolio anyway.

-Ugh, I really hate him. Since it's already been filmed, there's nothing they can do. However, I hope he faces the consequences he deserves. He shouldn't be back on TV again, though.

>Yoo Ah-in requested the police to postpone his questioning one day before

Yoo Ah-in was scheduled to be summoned for questioning on the 24th but requested the police to postpone it on the 23rd, just one day before the investigation. The reason is that the information about Yoo Ah-in's investigation was made public through media outlet reports, despite the fact that he was guaranteed the right to a private investigation.

The type of face that women unexpectedly really like

The monkey type
Big ears, baby face, and pretty smile
They may not have the typical handsome face, but people consistently say that they look cute

-They look like baby monkeysㅋㅋㅋㅋ They're really charming

-It's not unexpected, though...

-Have you seen a monkey in real life?ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-Ong Seongwoo is handsome... The rest are indeed more to cute rather than handsomeㅋㅋ

-Not exactly my type, but I agree...

-I like Beenzino, Neymar, and Loccoㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-They're all really handsome, though?ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-Unexpectedly?? They've been my ideal types for as long as I can remember, though?

-I don't think women like the monkey type of face... They like handsome guys who happen to have the monkey type of face.

-Our Woong-ie is very handsome, though?

-Girls like them not because they have the monkey type of face. Girls like them because they're handsome.

-Ong Seongwoo is f*cking handsome, though?? His ears are not even that big

Finally a Korean movie that becomes #1 on Netflix in the world

#ALIVE

It becomes #1 in 35 different countries, including America, France, Australia, and Russia
It's a very historical record

-I enjoyed watching the movieㅋㅋ Park Shinhye and Yoo Ah In are so cute...

-I think I'm going to watch this soonㅋㅋㅋ I have a feeling it's going to be so much more interesting than The Kissing Booth...

-I heard the movie is not that great though, it's fascinating. South Korea seems to be achieving a lot of big things lately...

-This is fascinating, why is this movie achieving so much? I mean, there's no Hallyu star in this movie and after reading the comments, I don't think it's a great movie either...?

-This movie is so boring... It's totally not worth my time...

-I wonder what do foreigners think about this movie? I mean, what if it becomes #1 because they're talking about how bad the movie is?

-I actually paid 10,000KRW to watch this movie and it's not such a bad movie to kill your time~~

-Whoa... I personally think this movie is really boring... Maybe it's the matter of preferences

-Not a bad movie to kill your time. I didn't have high expectations since it's a Zombie movie...

-Hul... I thought this movie would flop because it's really boring...

-But this movie is so much better than The Kissing Booth. I mean, The Kissing Booth ranked #1 before, I don't see why #Alive can't rank #1 as well...

-Because of Kingdom and Train to Busan, expectations towards K-Zombies have been raising a lot... I wonder when will this hype go...

-Just like Kingdom and Train to Busan, K-Zombies seem to be attracting a lot of attention from all over the world...
