Former idol in his 30s indicted for faking medical records to avoid active duty military service
by Journalist Kang Jungtae
https://n.news.naver.com/article/421/0007780413
A man in his 30s, who was once part of an idol group, has been indicted for allegedly falsifying medical records to avoid active-duty military service.
On the 9th, the Changwon District Prosecutor's Office, Criminal Division 3 (led by Chief Prosecutor Lee Chihyun), announced that former idol group member A (in his 30s) was indicted without detention for violating military service laws.
Additionally, A’s mother, B, and nurse C, who aided in the crime, were also brought to trial.
A is accused of conspiring with his mother, B, in May 2021 to falsify medical records under a doctor’s name to avoid active military service.
Initially classified as Grade 1, eligible for active-duty service after a medical examination, A allegedly lowered his classification to Grade 4 by using falsified medical records.
While police initially dropped the case, citing insufficient evidence that A and B deceived the Military Manpower Administration, prosecutors requested a reinvestigation, which led to the indictment. The prosecution determined there was enough evidence, including recorded phone conversations between the accomplices.
Through medical analysis of the MRI submitted during A’s military examination, prosecutors confirmed that A did not have the illness cited as the reason for his exemption.
They also identified nurse C, who had accessed the hospital's computer system to alter the medical records at A's mother's request, and indicted her as well.
A ultimately served as a social service worker after being classified as Grade 4. If found guilty of violating military service laws, he may be required to undergo a new medical examination and complete his military service based on the new classification.
-Who is this?
-Just enlist already
-If he's a former idol, that means he's no longer doing activities as idol then...
-If he's a former idol, he's probably not that famous
-Judging by how they worded it 'Former idol', the group must've disbanded not too long after they debuted.
-I think it's someone we don't know. If he was a popular idol, it would've been more beneficial for him to enlist and finish military service quickly.
-If he's in his 30s now, wouldn't that make him a 2nd Gen idol?
-If he was even a little bit popular, the journalist would say 'Famous former idol'
-Since it's handled by the Changwon District Prosecutor's Office, is he currently living in Changwon?
-Does that mean he has to re-enlist? I’m curious...
-If this happens, does he have to re-enlist? I’m curious...
-Looks like he’ll have to go back to the military.
-The article was corrected to say he debuted in 2011. The group name was mentioned vaguely, but I’ve never heard of them.
