The call for a fair investigation into BTS' Sajaegi allegations has been raised, following a petition that was submitted to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST).
Former MCST Vice Minister Park Sun-gyu appeared on Channel A's current affairs program 'Newspaper Story Strike Show+' on the 6th, stating, "I understand that a petition requesting an investigation into BTS's Sajaegi Allegations has been submitted to the MCST." He further added, "The verdict on the Big Hit Music coercion case included words like 'illegal marketing.'"
He continued, saying, "It seems that BTS fans are angry after this petition was submitted to the MCST," and remarked, "Their anger is viewed as an expression of their affection towards BTS."
Former Vice Minister Park Sun-gyu mentioned, "We can't predict the outcome of the investigation." He emphasized the importance of the government handling its duties properly. He added that if the government investigates the allegations against BTS cleanly, it would show fairness. It would make fans think that South Korea is a fair country that investigates even prestigious groups like BTS.
Previously, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism received petitions asking to investigate BTS's Sajaegi allegations. Additionally, there were requests to cancel the ministry's commendation given to BTS.
Upon learning of these requests, BTS fans, known as ARMY, started posting hashtags like "Apologize to BTS" on social media and organized collective actions to support the group.
They continue to argue that "South Korea does not deserve to have BTS," "South Korea is a corrupt country," "The South Korean government only exploits BTS," and "The South Korean government should apologize to BTS." Furthermore, some ARMYs have been staging condolence protests in front of the HYBE headquarters, expressing dissatisfaction with the agency. They condemned HYBE, the parent company of Big Hit Music, with slogans like "We wish for BTS to leave HYBE," "Don't use BTS in public opinion warfare," and "They are being used as a shield in public opinion warfare."
HYBE denied the allegations and announced plans for legal action. The agency stated in a statement released on the 2nd, "Various allegations that damage BTS's honor, which are not true facts but false information and defamation posts, have been submitted to law enforcement agencies with the first lawsuit," hinting at further legal action.
