A: Big Hit had commissioned advertising and publicity services to the perpetrator, Mr. N, 2 years ago. However, it ended as a one-time project without any significant results. Mr. N threatened Big Hit's CEO in early 2017, claiming to possess 'inappropriate marketing materials' and threatening to 'expose them on social media if payment was not made.' As stated in the verdict, knowing well that mere threats can tarnish an image in the entertainment industry, the CEO attempted to resolve the issue directly. However, the CEO realized that this matter couldn't be resolved individually and brought it up to the company. Big Hit then proceeded to report the whole situation to the police. Mr. N eventually was sentenced to one year in prison for violations of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes and Fraud on August 31, 2017. 

Q: According to the verdict, the perpetrator allegedly made threats using Big Hit's alleged deceptive marketing as a pretext. Can you elaborate?

A: Big Hit is audited by one of the four major accounting firms. At the time, all related advertising and publicity costs went through legitimate accounting processes, so the perpetrator's accusations were baseless. The term 'deceptive marketing' is used to describe twisting regular online marketing into something malicious. 

Q: How severe were the threats made by the perpetrator? What prompted Big Hit's decision to file charges?

A: Mr. N went as far as creating a fake identity and committing fraud. He claimed to be a victim too and repeatedly threatened Big Hit's CEO through emails and calls. As stated in the verdict, he demanded 330 M KRW, but his threats had nothing to do with the company's advertising deals. Therefore, Big Hit reported the matter to the police and an investigation began. Big Hit has been transparent about the matter, informing the authorities, and cooperating fully with the investigation. The CEO also took personal steps to lessen the impact on the artist's reputation.

HYBE's Stock is Expected to Bounce Back if New Jeans' Activities Gain Momentum

 Daeshin Securities expects HYBE's stock to rebound significantly if New Jeans' activities become more visible to the public, maintaining their recommendation to buy the stock. The target price remains at 330,000 KRW, as it closed at 205,000 KRW yesterday. 

Im Soojin, the researcher of Daeshin Securities stated, "Due to the ongoing feud between HYBE and Min Heejin, the company's image has been tarnished. This causes a -11% stock return compared to the 19th. With the shareholders' meeting that is expected to take at least 8 to 9 weeks, fluctuations in the stock price are likely to persist." She added, "If the conflict nears resolution and New Jeans' activities become more visible to the public, HYBE's stock recovery will likely speed up."

Im also observed solidarity of New Jeans' fandom following Min Heejin's press conference through album purchases. With growing public interest, New Jeans' album sales are anticipated to exceed previous predictions.

HYBE Requests Permission to Hold a Meeting with Shareholders to Dismiss Min Heejin ... Hearing Today

 

An investigation is currently happening about HYBE asking to hold a meeting with shareholders to dismiss ADOR's CEO, Min Heejin.

The Seoul Western District Court will hold a hearing on the application for permission for HYBE to hold a meeting with shareholders at 4.35PM on the 30th. The hearing will be conducted privately in accordance with Non-Contentious Case Procedure Act. 

If the court approves, a notice of meeting will be sent to the shareholders, and 15 days later, the meeting between the shareholders and board of directors will be held. At the meeting, HYBE is expected to dismiss the existing board of directors, including Min Heejin, and appoint new directors. The overall process is expected to take about two months.

HYBE's Employees Raises Suspicions of ADOR's Alleged Use of Online PR Companies to Manipulate Public Opinion

 

On the HYBE employee board on Blind, an online community where only employees can post using their company email, posts related to these suspicions have been published.

One employee expressed concern, stating, "I heard they're now using online PR companies to manipulate public opinion. Suddenly, all sorts of company posts, especially those regarding remarks that CEO Min Heejin has previously made, are popping up. Are they manipulating public opinion? HYBE usually posts a promotional Shorts on the day the music video is released. However, even though New Jeans' 'Bubble Gum' MV has surpassed 13M views, they haven't posted any Youtube Shorts about it.
