BTS fans launching a hashtag campaign for Suga’s withdrawal

#HighestFineForAnIdol_WhoCanDoItLikeYou

#DrunkDriving_CelebrityExpulsion_SugaIsNext

#HarmfulInfluence_KickOutDrunkDrivers

Hashtag campaign started at 9 PM

Despite surpassing 20,000 hashtags, it hasn’t trended due to reports from those opposing Suga’s withdrawal.

Update: Hashtag count surpasses 30,000

40,000 tweets

Major accounts are encouraging reporting

Statement

Regarding BTS Suga (real name Min Yoongi), who was booked for driving under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.227% on August 6, 2024, we, ARMYs calling for Suga’s withdrawal from BTS, strongly assert the following opinions to Suga and BigHit Music:

1. Suga and BigHit Music must not undermine the moral values of Korean society.

Suga's blood alcohol concentration of 0.227% is the highest among idols caught for drunk driving, nearly three times the 0.08% threshold for license revocation. If a BTS member, who influences fans worldwide, commits drunk driving, and the fandom defends this, it could dull society’s awareness of the dangers of drunk driving, causing significant harm.

If a member who drove while heavily intoxicated continues activities without consequences due to the group's global popularity, it would set a dangerous precedent of evading responsibility. The group and the agency will inevitably face criticism for prioritizing "economic value" over the "moral values" of Korean society.

2. Suga must take responsibility for deceiving fans and the public.

In his first apology, Suga referred to his electric scooter as an electric skateboard and claimed ignorance of the illegality of drunk driving. Furthermore, his second handwritten apology lacked an honest acknowledgment of his previous lies, offering only hollow words of responsibility, leaving fans deeply disappointed.

Suga has been delivering positive messages and societal critiques through his music as a BTS member. However, by committing the criminal act of drunk driving, he has lost the sincerity behind his music and messages. This is a betrayal and deception to the many fans who have loved his music.

As a Korean citizen, it is only right for Suga to face legal consequences for his crime. As a public figure and BTS member, he must also take responsibility for deceiving the public and fans through his reckless driving and false explanations, which have shattered trust in him as an artist.

3. BigHit Music has a responsibility to uphold the value of BTS as artists.

Korean society holds a highly negative perception of celebrities, especially idols, involved in drunk driving. Public broadcasters have long restricted the appearances of celebrities who commit various social crimes. To date, no member of a third-generation idol group who has caused controversy over drunk driving has remained in their group.

If Suga remains in the group despite his drunk driving, BTS and ARMY’s mutual pride in facing the world with confidence will be significantly diminished.

Therefore, we, ARMYs calling for Suga’s withdrawal from BTS, strongly demand the following from BigHit Music and Suga:

1. BigHit Music must release an official statement regarding Suga’s future group activities.

2. Suga must take responsibility for this incident by immediately withdrawing from the group.

We will continue to take firm action until BigHit Music makes an official statement about Suga’s group activities and Suga withdraws from the group.

September 2024

ARMYs calling for BTS Suga's withdrawal

ARMYs who demand Suga’s withdrawal argue that since he received the maximum fine for a first-time offender (15 million KRW) for drunk driving, he should take not only legal but also social responsibility.

Update

Comment #2: I submitted the statement, but there seems to be no place reporting it as news.

Comment #6: Yeahㅠㅠ Articles supporting his non-withdrawal get published even without proof of being ARMY, but those who support his withdrawal, even when proving they’re ARMY and submitting statements or organizing truck protests, are just being buried. I’m writing this because I feel bad and want more attention, even from other fandoms. I gathered the courage to write because I think it’s absurd that HYBE is allowing a celebrity with a drunk driving record to return to activities in 2025, without any reflection, let alone considering withdrawal. I hope this gains more public attention.

theqoo

-The company or the person themselves should make a decision on this, but HYBE’s stance seems to be just dismissing it as fangirls causing trouble. If he was the type to leave, he would have already done so. I wonder what will happen.

-HYBE’s actions, on top of the drunk driving, have completely drained my patriotism.

-If he truly thought about his members and fans, wouldn’t he leave on his own?

-Wow, it seems like HYBE’s PR team is really working hard not to let this statement become newsㅋㅋ

-I don't think he will leave. The international fandom will go crazy if he does.

-Min Suga, just leave the group.

-At least his fans are still normal.

-He still hasn't left the group?? HYBE is holding onto a criminal. Are they only thinking about sending him on worldwide tours?

-Hey, just leave already... I can’t even look at the other six members because of youㅡㅡ I want to erase every second I spent liking you as my favorite. Just leave.

-At least there are some sane fans. I’m relieved.

- support the fans who are speaking up about this... It’s shocking to see some fans saying that if he just shows remorse for drunk driving, it’s enough.

-Suga, aren’t you ashamed in front of the other members? Can you really just keep on smiling and performing after committing a crime? I can’t understand it at all. Take responsibility and leave the group.

-It's only the sane fans who are suffering... I know this because I'm a HYBE stan myself... We're suffering a lot.

Prosecutors File Summary Indictment Against BTS's Suga for 'Electric Scooter DUI'

by Journalist Jang Boin

https://n.news.naver.com/mnews/article/001/0014923895?sid=102

The Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office announced on the 10th that BTS' Suga (31, real name Min Yoongi) was summarily indicted for driving an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol.

A summary indictment is a procedure in which the prosecution asks the court to impose fines, penalties, or confiscation without a formal trial in cases of relatively minor offenses.

The prosecution did not disclose the requested fine amount.

On the 6th of last month at 11:15 PM, Suga was referred to the prosecution on charges of driving an electric scooter while intoxicated (Violation of the Road Traffic Act) on a street in Hannam-dong, Yongsan district.

At the time of the incident, Suga's blood alcohol concentration was found to be 0.227%, nearly three times the legal limit for license revocation (0.08%).

According to the Road Traffic Act, a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or higher leads to license revocation and a potential sentence of 1 to 2 years in prison or a fine ranging from 5 to 10 million won.

However, if the blood alcohol concentration exceeds 0.2%, the penalties increase to 2 to 5 years in prison or a fine ranging from 10 to 20 million won.

theqoo

-This probably will just end with a fine of 10 million won.

-Leave the group.

-He's probably just going to get fined since it's his first offense... But that still doesn't change the fact that he's a criminal.

-Looks like he's going to get a fine.

-Will he still have a criminal record if he pays the fine?

-This will be over faster than expected then.

-He's rich anyway, just leave the group.

-Just leave the groupㅠㅠ I'm getting tired of this.

-A fine of 10 million won is a really heavy punishment. Criminals should leave from the group.

-Congrats on becoming a criminal.

-He's a criminal. Hul, I can't believe it.

-Is he really not going to leave the group?

-I wonder why he is not leaving the group............

-He still hasn't left his group??

Suga was followed by police officers as he drove on sidewalk under alcohol influence

At the end of the GIF, three officers were seen approaching him

Suga fell over

The officers from the first GIF approached him. In the middle of all this, Suga tried to get back on his scooter.

theqoo

-It seems they noticed him swaying as he passed by, but it looked like they weren't planning to stop him. Then he fell over.

-Seems like the officers really didn't know it was Sugaㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-But seriously... it's just so funnyㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ He falls over while drunk, right in front of police officers, and gets caughtㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-It's funny that he gets back on the scooter. He must have been really out of it. To the police, he probably looked like just another drunk driverㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-Legend of embarrassment.

-Seeing him get back on the scooter, he must have been really drunk.

-What? Did he not fasten his helmet buckle?

-If he hadn't fallen over, they might have just ignored him. But since he fell and smelled of alcohol, they intervened.

-It’s not that they were following him; they were probably patrolling the area.

-It’s really stupid to just pass by the police like that.

-He almost had a serious accident when he fell head first.

-No matter how you look at it, falling head first is really scary.

-He was so drunk that he couldn't control himself on the electric scooter. It’s a miracle that no one else was injured, and he himself wasn’t hurt. What a mess.

'BTS Suga lying' allegations proven false as new CCTV footage was released ... Will the public's opinion shift?

by Journalist Lee Sunmyung

https://m.entertain.naver.com/article/144/0000982069

BTS' Suga has been allegedly lying, but these allegations turned out not to be true.

According to the Dong-A Ilbo, CCTV footage captured Suga riding an electric scooter on a sidewalk on the evening of August 6th, around 11:10 PM. The newly released footage provides a clearer view of Suga's movements compared to the previously released CCTV footage.

Suga was riding the electric scooter on the sidewalk in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, near Nine One Hannam. He fell in front of the main gate of Nine One Hannam after losing his balance while trying to turn left. At that moment, three patrolling officers passing by noticed Suga and approached him. The officers tried to help Suga and noticed that he had been drinking, leading to a breathalyzer test. Suga's blood alcohol level at the time was 0.227%, which is high enough for a license to be revoked.

It was reported that some of the footage showing a person riding an electric scooter on the road, as released by certain media outlets, was not Suga. The analysis suggested that the direction was different from where Suga was headed towards Nine One Hannam. Additionally, reports that Suga had crashed into a curb were also proven false.

The media outlets that previously reported on this footage have since retracted the video. There were also reports that Suga had taken a breathalyzer test on the sidewalk, not in front of his home, leading to suspicions that he had lied. However, these claims were also found to be untrue.

theqoo

-Drunk driving on the sidewalk seems more dangerous.

-It doesn't change the fact that he drove under alcohol influence. The fact that he drove on the sidewalk makes it even worse.

-Do you really think the public will change their mind? Driving on the sidewalk is even worse. What is HYBE thinking?

-They're working hard to shift public opinion.

-When has drunk driving on the sidewalk ever been legal?

-What’s changed? The fact remains that he was drunk driving.

-It’s a miracle no one got hurt on the sidewalk. Do you understand how ridiculous it is to see him stumble, fall, and try to get back on the scooter? Just go away. It’s embarrassing.

-Riding a scooter on the sidewalk is more dangerous.

-It’s getting tiresome. Important news is being overshadowed by this. Just settle it with fines or whatever.

-It’s worse; now it’s drunk driving on the sidewalk.

-That's an additional criminal charge...

-Are they saying driving on the sidewalk is okay?

BTS Suga was wrong for driving under the influence, but he never lied

by Journalist Lee Seoyeon

https://m.entertain.naver.com/article/117/0003861390

However, the person in the CCTV footage released by JTBC and Yonhap News TV was not Suga.

On the 14th, Dong-A Ilbo reported that on the 6th of this month, around 9 PM, Suga had dinner with acquaintances at a restaurant near Hannam Intersection in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, where he drank alcohol. Afterward, he went to a nearby private studio, where he drank more. Around 11 PM, he rode an electric scooter from the studio to his home, Nine One Hannam, which is about 500 meters away.

TV Chosun also aired the CCTV footage obtained by the police, showing Suga riding an electric scooter on the sidewalk. As he was turning left into the main entrance of Nine One Hannam, he lost his balance and fell. The police, who approached Suga after seeing him pick up his helmet that had fallen off during the incident, conducted a breathalyzer test on the spot.

Following the release of this CCTV footage, Suga has been cleared of the accusations of lying. Misunderstandings regarding the type of scooter, the distance traveled, and the nature of the incident have been resolved.

The electric scooter Suga was riding was not similar to a motorcycle-like scooter but rather a kickboard-style electric scooter with a seat. This differs from the scooter shown by some broadcasters in their reports. Some believe that the confusion arose because it looked like a kickboard.

Additionally, previous reports that Suga rode 1.5 kilometers in the opposite direction of his home and crashed into a curb, were proven false by the newly released CCTV footage.

These details match what Suga and his agency stated in their apology.

However, it's been reported that Suga told the police he was experiencing knee pain and mentioned that he "only had one beer and drove for a short while." His blood alcohol concentration was 0.227%, well above the 0.08% threshold for license revocation, making the "one beer" claim questionable. Given the false reports that surfaced after Suga's drunk driving incident, it’s crucial to confirm whether he indeed made the "one beer" statement. While the fact that he drove under the influence remains unchanged, if he didn't make the statement (of drinking "only one beer"), it would mean he didn't lie.

Drunk driving and riding an electric scooter on the sidewalk are undeniably wrong actions. However, considering the current information, it might be time to stop criticizing Suga for allegedly lying.

theqoo

-Are they trying to cancel out one lie with another?

-Don’t reporters feel ashamed when they write such false articles?

-Are we supposed to praise him for this?

-What’s the point? He had one beer and still rode on the sidewalk.

-Drunk driving + riding on the sidewalk are the biggest mistakes here.

-So what? He drove on the sidewalk after drinking.

-Stop the media play.

-Do they think we don’t have eyes?

-One beer and a blood alcohol concentration of 0.227? If you're going to lie, at least try harderㅋㅋㅋㅋ HYBE is really bad at media play.

-Ugh, it's so annoying how they keep diverting the issue. This is so HYBE.

-Stop making excuses and just leave. You’re a criminal.

-This is so dumb.

-If he was riding on the sidewalk with a BAC of 0.227, that’s an even bigger problem, isn’t it? He could have killed someone... HYBE, why aren’t you kicking him out?

Additional clear CCTV footage of BTS Suga's DUI incident released.

He was captured falling while riding an electric scooter.

Footage also shows the police approaching.

theqoo

-It's so funny that the police are following from behindㅋㅋㅋ

-I just watched it, and the police were right behind him by sheer coincidence. If he hadn't fallen, they probably would've kept goingㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-CCTV quality is really good these days.

-It’s not a drama, but they filmed it from multiple angles.

-Ugh, what bad luck... to have the police right there.

-It’s a good thing he fell. If he kept going, he might’ve hit a pedestrian... There could've been a serious accident.

-There are really a lot of CCTVs in Yongsan; they capture everything.

-If he hadn’t fallen, the world wouldn't have known he was that kind of personㅎㅎ

-So everything up until now was just a teaser, I guess.

-This is hilariousㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-Did he really try to sit back on it after falling, even with the police watching?

-His speed was similar to the car next to him.

-Didn’t they say this wasn’t him? What’s the truth?

BTS Suga's Another Lie ... Intoxication Test Conducted on Sidewalk, Not in Front of His Home

by Journalist Lee Seunghoon

https://m.entertain.naver.com/article/108/0003258027

Suga’s lies have been exposed once again. On the 13th, Yonhap News TV revealed CCTV footage of Suga's drunk driving incident through an exclusive report titled “BTS’s Suga Drunk and Driving on Sidewalk… Accident Captured on CCTV.”

The CCTV footage shows Suga, on an electric scooter, riding on the sidewalk of a street in Hannam-dong, Yongsan District, Seoul, around 11:10 PM on the 6th. Suga then crashes into a curb and falls over, after which he is found by patrolling police officers and subjected to a breathalyzer test on the scene. His blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was 0.227%, indicating severe intoxication, which is far higher than the standard for revocation of license of 0.08%.

Previously, on the 7th, Suga had posted on the fan community platform Weverse, stating, “After drinking at a dinner party last night, I rode an electric kickboard home. I did not realize that electric kickboards cannot be used under intoxication and violated traffic laws. I fell over while stopping the kickboard in front of my house, and since there were police officers around, they conducted a breathalyzer test, which resulted in license revocation and a fine.”

However, according to CCTV footage released by JTBC on the same day, Suga was riding an electric scooter, not an electric kickboard, on the road in Hannam-dong. Suga, who attempted to downplay the incident by calling the electric scooter a kickboard, was embroiled in another controversy over his lies as the second CCTV showed him undergoing the intoxication test on the sidewalk, not in front of his home.

When discovered by the police, Suga reportedly stated that he “had a beer and drove briefly.”

If his BAC exceeds 0.2%, he will be subject to aggravated punishment. And if he was found guilty, he has the potential to be sentenced to imprisonment from 2 to 5 years or a fine of up to 20 million won.

theqoo

-He still hasn’t left his group? Just retire already, I’m so sick of this.

-He should retire.

-Is he homeless or what?

-Maybe because of his past scandals, he thinks he can just lie and get away with it.

-OT6

-Pathetic... If he had just apologized honestly from the start, it wouldn’t have been this bad.

-He should just retire; it’s too serious.

-He should have just said he was completely drunk and didn’t remember. Making a half-hearted lie in the apology only leads to more criticism.

-Given that there’s been no action so far, it seems like he’s just going to drag it out and stays in his group.

-Really the worst.

-Typical of HYBE.

-Caught red-handed.

-I didn't realize it was this bad.

-What a funny guy.

-The problem is the lies.

Suga --> Rosé and Jennie Challenge: Overseas Extremist Fandom Crosses the Line … Only My Idol is Important?

by Journalist Lee Minkyung

https://m.entertain.naver.com/article/312/0000674954

In response to the "Suga Challenge," a "Rosé and Jennie Challenge" emerged. Rumors circulated that BLACKPINK’s fandom, BLINK, created the "Suga Challenge" to tarnish the reputation of BTS’ fandom, ARMY, leading to criticism and attacks on BLACKPINK's Rosé and Jennie. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time overseas fandoms have fabricated rumors and criticized other artists to protect their favorites.

On August 12, claims began circulating among ARMYs that the "Suga Challenge," which defended BTS's Suga for allegedly drinking and riding an electric scooter, was actually a creation of BLACKPINK’s fandom to damage BTS's reputation.

Overseas ARMYs responded to the "Suga Challenge" by creating the "Rosé Challenge" and "Jennie Challenge." In the "Rosé Challenge," they attached drug-related images to Rosé, portraying her as if she were involved in drug crimes. In the "Jennie Challenge," they posted photos of men alongside Jennie, engaging in blatant sexual harassment. These challenges have gained significant traction, with related posts reaching up to 940,000 views.

This isn’t the first instance of extreme overseas ARMYs attacking BLACKPINK members.

In December 2021, BTS members created personal Instagram accounts for the first time in 8 years after their debut. A controversy arose when V, one of the BTS members, suddenly followed Jennie’s Instagram account, leading to speculation. At that time, V only followed his fellow BTS members and the official BTS account, but when he followed Jennie, it caused a stir. V later indirectly addressed the issue on Weverse, hinting that the follow was accidental by saying, "Is there a way to remove Instagram recommendations? It's a scary app."

Despite this, some extreme overseas fans flooded Jennie’s Instagram with vomit emojis, tagged #FREETAE, and demanded to know the nature of their relationship.

A pop culture critic Ha Jaegeun analyzed that the practice of overseas K-pop fandoms attacking other artists stems from cultural differences between domestic and international fandoms. He explained, "In Korea, there's an unspoken rule within fandoms not to mention other artists."

He continued, "Due to the nature of fandoms, aggressive behavior towards other artists can emerge in the process of supporting their own. In Korea, there was severe fandom conflict during the early days of idol culture, leading to a sort of implicit agreement. If someone mentions another artist, they are cautioned by their peers, but this culture has not settled overseas. Therefore, things that are unlikely to happen in Korea can occur abroad."

Ha added, "It's difficult to confirm whether BLACPINK's fans actually initiated the 'Suga Challenge', so it's premature to conclude that BLINKs were responsible for the whole situation. Even if that were the case, it would be clearly wrong for overseas ARMYs to make false claims about BLACKPINK."

Compared to domestic fandoms, overseas fandoms tend to support their favorite artists by criticizing other artists more frequently. A similar phenomenon is occurring outside of idol fandoms, even within the broadcasting industry.

Actresses Jeon Somin, who previously appeared on SBS's "Running Man," and Ji Yeeun, who is currently appearing on the show, are prime examples of artists suffering due to overseas hardcore fandoms. "Running Man"’s international fandom wanted the original members to remain on the show and criticized Jeon So-min when she joined, with comments like "Ji-hyo is the only woman" and "Draw a clear line between her and the regular members." After Jeon So-min's departure, Ji Ye-eun has also faced negative comments, with fans only supporting the chemistry of the original members and rejecting her

Criticizing other artists is not necessary to protect the artists you love. This behavior only harms both the artists being criticized and the ones being supported. This phenomenon shouldn't be dismissed as merely a cultural difference between overseas and domestic fandoms. Just as domestic fandoms have done in the past, there is an urgent need for efforts within overseas fandoms to self-regulate.

theqoo

-I just hope they can enjoy their own fandom happily... and stop bothering others.

-It's like these two fandoms are pulling each other's hair, but both sides are the same. There's no side worth supporting. Those overseas fans just take turns going crazy.

-The one who should be considered a murderer is their oppa, yet they take it out on unrelated female idols. The more they act out, the more they push him toward leaving.

-Stop harassing Rosé and Jennie, you crazy people...

-It’s truly disgusting. The toxicity of ARMY is unmatched. Both domestic or overseas ARMYs, they’re all the same.

-Those fans are out of their minds.

-They’re freaking out because BLACKPINK isn't getting affected.

-Both sides should just stop.

-Why are they dragging female idols into this while defending a drunk-driving criminal?

-Why are they harassing female idols like this? Even if you’re crazy about a guy, at least do it gracefully.

-Those crazy fans will eventually get what they deserve. This is disgusting.

-BLACKPINK fans are the ones with solid grounds to sue.

-The craziest and most delusional fans are always defending their idols in the weirdest ways. They don’t have to prove anything, but they still do these things. Why?

-Please stop, BLACKPINK fans didn’t do anything.

BTS' fandom is in chaos

Everyone is suffering. Please make a quick decision.

On Twitter, there's a lot of arguing and chaos after a big account mentioned about 'Withdrawal (from the group)'.

Fans are fighting about whether 'He should withdraw from the group' and 'Is it okay to post something like that when it's not a personal account in the first place?'

theqoo

-Normally, this is something one would only say on their personal accounts. But given the situation, I think it's right to raise the issue on a big platform like that. I support that fan account.

-Even if it's your favorite idol, it's understandable to lose affection over this.

-It's not easy for a big account to do that. I'm actually grateful. Of course, he should withdraw. He’s a criminal. Please leave, Min Yoongi.

-Logically, if fans shield this, everything BTS has will be tarnished. Fans shouldn’t shield this.

-It’s a common rule that accidents lead to fights. The fans of the other members can’t avoid being upset with the problematic member.

-Are they seriously defending a drunk driver...?

-Whether they post it or not, it doesn’t matter. The situation is already a mess.

-It seems better for him to leave the group, but I wonder if he will actually do that.

-What can fans do now?

-Honestly, I just want the group to disband. It’s already tainted, and there’s no point in keeping it.

-He needs to leave. If he doesn't, the group's activities will be impacted.

-I don’t think there’s a good solution to this problem. The fandom is really going crazy.

-If he doesn't leave the group, it'll only get worse.

-The group needs to make a decision soon.

-This whole situation is really sad. I just want it to end.

-If he doesn't leave the group, the group’s reputation will continue to decline.

Breaking down BTS Suga's blood alcohol concentration level of 0.227% which caused an uproar

BTS Suga's Blood Alcohol Level at 0.227%—'Heavily Intoxicated'... Faces Up to 5 Years in Prison

Blood Alcohol Concentration (%) and the effects:
  • 0.03+ → Impaired complex tasks like driving
  • 0.03 - 0.05 → Significant decline in driving ability
  • 0.05 - 0.10 → Slurred speech, reduced inhibition, laughter, sensory impairments
  • 0.10 - 0.15 → Slurred speech, emotional instability, nausea
  • 0.15 - 0.20 → Clearly drunk, nausea, difficulty walking
  • 0.20 - 0.30 → Unconsciousness, coma, vomiting
  • 0.30 - 0.35 → Unconsciousness, coma, risk of aspirating vomit
  • 0.35+ → Increased risk of death from respiratory depression
His blood alcohol concentration level is revealed to be on par with Kim Saeron, who crashed into public facilities while driving under alcohol influence.

And in that state, he was driving. It's a miracle that there were no injuries. If he'd gone towards the road, he could've caused a chain collision with other vehicles.

-Wow, same level as Kim Sae-ron...

-Given that, there’s no way he was just tipsy when he was found lying on the street.

-He's really lucky that there were no accidents.

-He could've harmed other people if he had fallen on the road. It's really fortunate.

-It's a miracle that he survived and no one was hurt.

-How can people say this was no big deal when it could have cost lives?

-Drinking so much and then driving an electric scooter in the middle of Seoul at night is insane. He must be out of his mind.

-This is the end of his career. He's hopeless.

-He was lucky enough to survive this. Yoongi, just leave the group. Even as a fan, I think this is too much.

-To drink so much and then think of driving? A potential murderer.

-This is really insane. It’s fortunate that he didn’t die.

-It's absurd how he said he just had one beer...

-It’s a huge relief that he didn’t cause an accident.

BTS Suga's Blood Alcohol Level at 0.227%—'Heavily Intoxicated'... Faces Up to 5 Years in Prison

by Journalist Joo Hyunwoo

https://v.daum.net/v/20240809171924654?f=o

It has been reported that BTS' member, Suga (real name Min Yoongi, 31), was found to have a blood alcohol concentration of over 0.2% at the time of his arrest on charges of riding an electric scooter while intoxicated. This level is considered an aggravating factor in sentencing.

According to a comprehensive report by the Dong-A Ilbo on the 9th, the Seoul Yongsan Police Station conducted a breathalyzer test on Suga after booking him on charges of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act. The test revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.227%. Suga reportedly stated that he "had a glass of beer and drove for a short time."

Under current law, if a person is caught driving an electric scooter with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% to less than 0.2%, they can face imprisonment for 1 to 2 years or a fine of 5 to 10 million won. However, if the blood alcohol concentration is 0.2% or higher, the penalty increases to imprisonment for 2 to 5 years or a fine of 10 to 20 million won.

The police have not yet imposed administrative measures such as license cancellation on Suga. When caught driving under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08% or higher, the driver's license is typically revoked, and they are usually barred from obtaining a new license for one year.

theqoo

-It's a miracle there wasn't an accident, that's insane.

-You need to drink at least two bottles of soju to reach that level. How could it be from just one beer?ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-He must have thought the public were idiots by lying like that.

-At that level, it could have been dangerous for him too. He could've shown strange symptoms like blue lips and fingertips.

-No wonder, I was wondering how he could be that drunk from just one beer.

-How do you get 0.227% from one beer? Did he drink all that and drive? It's a miracle nobody got hurt, including him.

-This is truly shocking.

-I wonder what the foreign fans will say.

-He should be grateful no one got hurt.

-Please, just voluntarily leave the group... How much more do you want to disappoint us?

-At that level, he should be thankful to be alive.

-Why did he do that... And no one stopped him when he drank that much?

-They downplayed the scooter to a kickboard and turned more than a bottle of soju into "one beer." What a liar.

HYBE and Suga lied again in their statements and apology letter

They confirmed (Suga) was riding an electric scooter. Stating that a breathalyzer test was conducted by the police nearby and Suga received a fine and a cancellation of license.

"Currently there is no fine imposed. The license cancellation process is still ongoing."

If it's concluded that Suga was riding an electric scooter rather than an electric kickboard at the time of the incident, it will be treated the same, requiring a standard investigation for traffic investigation.

The investigation will then determine whether there was a violation or not. If it is concluded that he was riding an electric scooter under alcohol influence, the likelihood of just a fine being imposed is even lower.

No fine has been imposed yet.

The license cancellation process is still ongoing.

Depending on whether it was an electric scooter or an electric kickboard, additional investigations for traffic law violations are required. If there are related charges, an investigation into the violation charges is necessary.

An officer found Suga lying on the ground and noticed a smell of alcohol. Suspecting drunk driving, they brought Suga over to the nearest police station. The local police measured his blood alcohol concentration, which exceeded the standard for license cancellation (>0.08%). However, the police officers present at the scene did not realize that the person driving the electric scooter was a BTS member.

Additionally, he was not breathalyzed by a nearby police officer but was taken to a nearby police station for the breathalyzer test. He deceptively stated that security officers who found him were police officers, making it seem like he was breathalyzed at the scene.

He seems to have lied intentionally to create a situation where it had to be an electric kickboard.

theqoo

-Both the artist and the company are just... ugh.

-Just HYBE being HYBE

-The standard HYBE move.

-Why lie about something so easily exposed?

-Why lie about something so obvious?

-Why tell such a lie?

-Just stop lying, seriously.

-It’s not just a common incident; trying to downplay something that clearly needs police investigation is just dumb.

-Trying to downplay and make excuses, but the story keeps getting more bizarre, tsk tsk. Just apologize and face the consequences.

-Indeed, they’re all in it together.

-Such situations tend to be exposed quickly, so why take such risks?

-Seriously... They've been digging their own grave since the verdict controversy.

-Did they really think they wouldn’t get caught?

Military Manpower Administration: "BTS Suga's Drunk Driving Not a Breach of His Duty to Maintain Dignity"

by Journalist Kang Wooseok

https://n.news.naver.com/mnews/article/023/0003851120?sid=102

On the 7th, the Military Manpower Administration stated that BTS member Suga (31, real name Min Yoongi), who was caught drunk driving while serving as a public service worker, did not violate the duty to maintain dignity because the incident occurred outside of work hours.

The Seoul Yongsan Police Station announced on the 7th that Min was arrested for violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) while driving an electric scooter in a heavily intoxicated state on a road in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul, around 11:15 PM on the 6th. Min, who has been serving as a social service worker since September last year, will be punished as a civilian, not as a soldier or public official. According to the Military Manpower Administration, if a social service worker commits a crime outside of work hours, there is no additional disciplinary action from the agency apart from civilian legal penalties.

The regulations for managing social service workers include "duty to maintain dignity (Article 8)" and "scope of misconduct (Article 29-2)." However, these regulations do not apply to incidents that occur outside of work hours, even for social service workers. An official from the Seoul Regional Military Manpower Administration stated, "There are no separate status measures under military law for incidents that occur outside of work hours and are unrelated to duties. This rule applies equally to all social service workers."

Social service workers are those who are assigned to do public service jobs instead of regular military service due to the results of their military health test. In contrast, active-duty soldiers who commit crimes in society are subject to the Military Criminal Act and are tried in military courts. Although both groups perform mandatory service, active-duty soldiers face more severe legal consequences for off-duty crimes compared to social service workers.

Some active-duty veterans have responded with, "Can we also drink and drive after work?" Kim (28), a marine corps veteran, said, "Both active-duty soldiers and social service workers endure hardships, but active-duty soldiers in more challenging conditions seem to be at a disadvantage. It seems necessary to strengthen the punishment regulations for social service workers to ensure fairness."

theqoo

-Why is he serving as a social service worker?

-Soldiers need to maintain dignity even during leave...

-Active duty soldiers get punished even if they cause trouble during leave. Social service workers have it really easy; they aren’t even soldiers.

-The law needs to be changed.

-Such an easy deal~ If it's not work time, you can get drunk and even collapse on the street.

-It's so unfair. I feel bad for the active-duty soldiers.

-That’s why they go to social service...

-Because of him, social service workers will get criticized again...

-Social service workers are not soldiers. Even if they die during service, they don't get state compensation.

-Being a social service worker is really nice.

-But aren’t social service workers soldiers? If he was an active-duty soldier, he would have been punished under military law... Why are social service workers excluded?

-Maybe it's because social service workers aren’t considered as soldiers.

-Social service workers are civilians and are affiliated with local government offices.

-One more reason to become a social service worker...

-Social service workers already have a bad reputation, and this doesn’t help.

BTS Suga posts apology letter on Weverse

Hello, this is Suga.

I am very heavy-hearted and sorry to come to you with disappointing news.

Last night, after drinking alcohol at a dinner gathering, I rode an electric scooter home. Due to my careless thinking that it was a short distance and my failure to recognize that using an electric scooter while intoxicated is prohibited, I violated traffic laws. While parking the scooter at the front gate of my house, I fell by myself, and a nearby police officer conducted a breathalyzer test, resulting in the cancellation of my license and a fine. Although there were no victims or damaged facilities in this incident, it is entirely my responsibility without any excuse. I sincerely apologize to everyone.

I apologize to all those hurt by my careless and wrong actions, and I will be more cautious in my behavior so this does not happen again.

-He seems healthy; enlist him as an active duty soldier.

-Wow, he emphasizes that there were no victims in his apology letter. He must be crazyㅋㅋㅋㅋ
-Oh, at least he wrote what he did wrong in the apology.

-What do you mean you didn't know you can't ride a scooter while drunk? Are you an idiot?

-The punishment for drunk driving in our country is too lenient.

-His apology is full of self-defense.

-So shameless.

-The way he emphasizes that there were no victimsㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-Re-enlist as an active duty soldier.

-At least his statement sounds better than his company's.

-He doesn't seem very sorry.

-Why does he emphasizes that no one was harmed or nothing was damaged? It doesn't make the crime any less seriousㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-If it was just 500 meters, he should've walked...

-I've never been more disappointed by an apology. How could you do this to us?

MAX releases Blueberry Eyes featuring Suga of BTS

The lyrics to Suga's part

A ray of light that pierces through my shadow

You turned my life, which used to be all dark

I may be nothing special

Before I met you, I was worthless

I was worthless

That's all my life was

I was always in hurry, trying to pass the day

Our day, our night. That's right, our life

u AR e MY light

We're friends who support each other

Each other's anchors

This is a pre-release song, it has also been released digitally in South Korea

theqoo

-The song sounds so f*cking great...

-Hul... The song is so good...

-Look at how they even insert the Korean lyrics in the MVㅋㅋㅋ Anyway, I really like the song

-Go check out Suga's Burn It on BTS' Sound Cloud... Max features in that song!!!

-I go to Melon to listen to the song right away~

-I opened his Instagram to learn that the woman in the MV is actually his own wife, and she's also actually pregnant... He's so freaking sweet...

-'u AR e MY light' Look at how he mentions Army in the lyricsㅠㅠㅠ I love the song...

-I was very surprised when I saw the Korean lyrics in the MV when Suga's part comes inㅋㅋㅋㅋ I love the song!

-I love the song, it sounds very calming...

-Whoa, f*ck. Now thanks to BTS, we have come to the generation where foreign singers lip-sync to Korean lyrics...

-The song and melody sound very sweet and soft... My favorite part is the ending!

-Crazy... He said he put the little cat there to make it feel like Suga was part of the MV, since he couldn't be in the videoㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

What Suga said to an ILAND trainee who has concerns because he thinks he's ugly

What Suga said to an ILAND trainee who has concerns because he thinks he's ugly

'Even a guy like me gets to debut, you know?'
And everyone laughed
J-Hope who sat next to him laughed even harder

'Me too! Hyung, me too! Me too!'

'Look at me and get your hopes up'

This is how their actual personalities are.
They don't think they're handsome and they're not even embarrassed about that.
Sometimes, people make fun about the pictures in which their faces look funny, but it doesn't mean anything to them.

BTS is way more sensitive when it comes to their talents
Suga is a talented producer who still takes his time to make music in his hotel room in the middle of packed schedules and world tours, now he is known for working together with other famous singers such as IU.
JHope who is known for his goofy personality and the way he smiles all the time turns very serious once he practices dancing, even his teammates get scared because of how perfectionist he is.
All 7 members of BTS are hard-workers, they're good people.
I often see people leaving comments about how they hate BTS, so I'm asking you guys to do me a favor and not hate BTS too much

+
V said that charms are way more important for idols, rather than handsomeness
And here's Yoongi's reaction

'You can say that because you're handsome and also charming'
Suga is bragging about how V is very handsome and charming as an idol

Yoongi's reaction right when RM said that he felt like he's still lacking as a leader

'RM is truly a leader'

Suga may look very blunt, but he's actually a tsundere.

[+312][-12]

1. [+99][-0] People with this type of personality are usually very confidence. They don't care if people are making fun of their looks or not. I really respect that mindset.

2. [+91][-48] Min Yoongi is the only one who doesn't know that he's handsome. Everyone knows, but himㅡㅡ;;!!

3. [+84][-4] Jimin's reaction when Taehyung said that charm is more important than just looking handsomeㅋㅋㅋㅋ They sure love each other a lot
'You are handsome and charming!'

4. [+43][-0] When someone who is not handsome thinks of himself as handsome, it doesn't exactly show the level of his confidence. But when someone knows that he's not handsome but he doesn't think of it as an advantage and just takes it like, 'So what?', now that's what you call confidence. I saw the show yesterday and it totally showed me how confidence he is with himself

5. [+36][-0] The way he talks about it while laughing on camera despite a lot of people hating on his looks show that he doesn't take looks as a big dealㅋㅋㅋ He's so cool

6. [+32][-1] Between the idol who a) handsome, but not so charming, doesn't have a lot of fans and b) not that handsome, but has a lot of fans because of his talents and charms, the b) type usually becomes the successful ones. So I think what V said is right.

7. [+31][-1] It's so fascinating to me how Taehyung never brags about his looks and the way Seokjin brags about his looksㅋㅋㅋㅋ And Yoongi, Hoseok... You guys are handsome. I love you.

8. [+26][-0] All of them are charming...

9. [+22][-0] It's like saying 'I can't swim', and people who can swim look so cool and amazing to you, but the fact that you can't swim actually don't bother your life at all, not even 0.1% of itㅋㅋㅋㅋ

10. [+22][-0] They're so amazing... I should stop thinking about people who make fun of their looks too, just like them.
