Bang Sihyuk, chairman of HYBE, was selected as someone who brought Asian culture to the world and hinted at future collaborations with various cultures.

Chairman Bang attended the Asia Game Changer Awards ceremony held on the 25th of last month (Korea time) in New York, USA, and delivered his acceptance speech.

The award is presented to those who have shone a global light on Asian content in fields such as journalism, music, film, and comedy. Although the ceremony was held on the 25th of last month, Chairman Bang’s acceptance speech was released on the 19th via a YouTube channel.

Delivering his speech in Korean, Chairman Bang said, “I've been collaborating with musicians from various cultural backgrounds since I was young. Through these experiences, I’ve learned to respect and understand the diversity of individuals and cultures. As a producer who experiments with various genres, and as the chairman of HYBE, which has bases in Korea, the U.S., Japan, and Latin America, I believe we can expect more creative and enriching musical outcomes when we combine differences"

He continued, “The reason Kpop music is loved worldwide is not only because of its universally relatable narratives but also because it combines the appealing elements from multiple genres. For example, BTS member Jungkook’s song ‘Seven’, which played as I walked in, was inspired by the UK garage genre and created in collaboration with the popular American artist Latto.”

He added, “LE SSERAFIM, a girl group under HYBE, released the song ‘Unforgiven’, which sampled Ennio Morricone’s ‘The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly’, and featured the legendary American guitarist Nile Rodgers. Additionally, our boy group Tomorrow X Together also collaborated with Brazilian artist Anitta last year on the song ‘Back for More’, which significantly increased the number of first-time listeners to our music.”

Chairman Bang concluded, “To introduce Kpop’s strengths to the U.S. and further to the global stage, we have been collaborating with Geffen Records, one of the top U.S. labels under Universal Music. As a result, the global girl group KATSEYE debuted this summer and has been achieving remarkable chart results in the global market.”

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the home ground of Son Heungmin's team, where Stray Kids will perform

 

Since it was opened back in 2019, it's still completely new. It also has the best facilities among the other soccer team stadiums. 

It can accommodate over 60,000 people. 

The stadium's grass field can be stored, so holding concerts won't damage it at all.

Min Heejin stated her position on the lawsuit regarding 'ILLIT Plagiarism Controversy'

The 12th Civil Division of the Seoul Western District Court will hold the first hearing for the damages lawsuit worth 2 Billion KRW, that was filed by BELIFT Lab against former CEO Min Heejin, on January 10. The court has reviewed the opinions from both sides and confirmed the schedule for the trial. During this process, it is said that BELIFT Lab requested a prompt trial by submitting a schedule designation application and also claimed that Min Heejin's side purposely delayed the proceedings.

In response, a representative of Min Heejin told Star News on the 18th, "Despite the testimony from HYBE internal whistleblower and clear similarities, (BELIFT Lab) is still denying the allegations and misleading public opinion." They added, "It's HYBE and BELIFT Lab who brought an issue that could've been resolved internally to the public, spreading numerous falsehoods, obstructing business, and defamation." They continued, "Without considering the damage caused to NewJeans, they have pushed a rookie artist forward as a shield while claiming business obstruction. They should reflect on who is truly responsible for these actions."

Idol-turned-actor Choi Bomin fractured his face during a golf practice ... Wins the lawsuit

Choi Bomin, who suffered facial fractures caused by another person’s swinging golf club at a golf practice range, has confirmed to win in a compensation lawsuit.

Judge Yoon Sohee of the Seoul Western District Court ruled on the 15th of last month in a damages claim filed by Choi (represented by attorney Kim Gunwoo) against A, who swung the golf club, and B, the operator of the golf practice range. The court ordered, “B must pay Choi approximately 12 M KRW, of which about 10.6 M KRW is to be paid jointly with A.” This ruling has been finalized.

In September 2022, Choi was practicing golf at a golf practice range located in Gyeonggi Province. Choi had stepped up to the booth and was operating the kiosk when an accident occurred, where A, practicing a swing motion in the front booth, hit Choi’s face with the golf club. As a result of this accident, Choi sustained injuries, including a right zygomaticomaxillary complex fracture, and had to suspend his activities. The distance between the practice booths was 2.5 meters.

Judge Yoon stated, "The operator of the golf practice range has a duty of care to provide safe facilities that pose no danger when used by customers by providing booths and related facilities," and explained, "According to the enforcement regulations of the Act on the Installation and Use of Sports Facilities, in the case of a golf practice range, the spacing between booths must be at least 2.5 meters, and sufficient space must be available around the booths to prevent the golf clubs being swung by users from hitting walls, ceilings, or other facilities. Additionally, nets or protective barriers must be installed to prevent safety accidents caused by balls during practice."

She continued, "Although the practice range meets the spacing standard for booths, no partitions or boundary facilities such as safety structures have been installed between the booths. Particularly, since the kiosk is located very close to the adjacent booth, when approaching to operate the kiosk, the person enters the swing radius of the user practicing in the adjacent booth, thereby creating a high possibility of suffering serious injury from the golf club. As B violated the duty of care to ensure the safety of users while managing and operating the practice range, and this led to the accident, B bears liability for breach of contract due to incomplete performance of the public sports facility use contract," he stated.

Additionally, "A, who had been using the practice range, had previously struck the hat of a person behind them who was operating the kiosk while swinging, so it can be presumed that A was aware that the spacing between the booths at the practice range was insufficient to prevent safety accidents. A swung from a position not at the center but slightly to the rear of the booth. Considering this, A could have sufficiently anticipated that a person in the booth behind them might be hit by the golf club. Therefore, A is recognized as having been negligent in their duty to look around thoroughly before swinging and to perform the swing in a safe manner," he judged.

However, Judge Yoon acknowledged that Choi also at fault for not taking sufficient measures to prevent the safety accident and limited A's liability to 30%. He stated that Choi, knowing A was preparing to practice, could have anticipated, based on the booth spacing and kiosk location, that they might be hit by the golf club when A swung. Yet, Choi did not take preventative measures, such as keeping watch on the person in the adjacent booth.

Judge Yoon acknowledged a total of approximately 2 M KRW in past medical expenses and 10 M KRW in compensation for pain and suffering as the damages amount for Choi. However, regarding Choi's claim that he suffered losses of approximately 35 M KRW due to being unable to participate in 12 contracts during his treatment and recovery period as a celebrity, the judge stated, "This is considered special damages, and there is no evidence to show that A or B knew or could have known such circumstances, so it is difficult to see a causal link to the accident," and did not accept the claim.

Red Velvet Irene requests SM Ent. to release the original picture after her free photocards get resold for profit

 1. Ahead of Irene's sole debut on November 26, SM Ent. held a free photocard giveaway event in Kwangya for 6 'Courage amulet' designs (1 for each person)

2. The giveaway was supposed to start at noon, but chaos ensued as fans + non-fans + resellers mixed together.

SM Ent. distributed queue number up to #1300, but they ran out of it even before the event officially began. 

As expected, the photocards were resold for 60,000 to 70,000 KRW (~43 to 50 USD) each.

4. SM Ent. initally announced they would update fans on the remaining stock tomorrow, but later declared that the event is already over.

The photocard giveaway event held at KWANGYA@SEOUL to celebrate the release of Irene's first solo album has ended.

There will be no further distribution of photocards. We would like to thank everyone who came despite the cold weather.

-I listened to both songs consecutively as soon as they were released out of curiosity. I think Taeyeon's pick is more suited as the title track.
