"Apologize to BTS, Korea is not worthy of BTS"... Why are BTS fans around the world angry?

by Reporter Yoon Jongchae

As the government investigation into allegations of Sajaegi surrounding BTS is underway, fans worldwide are expressing their discontent. On the 5th, the hashtag "SOUTH KOREA APOLOGIZE TO BTS" became a trending keyword in the K-pop category on X. Nearly 170,000 related Tweets were written on X alone.

These fans criticized fiercely, stating, "South Korea does not deserve to have BTS," "It's a mistake that BTS was born in Korea," "BTS is the reason Korea gained global recognition," and "South Korea does not deserve to participate in the 2030 World Expo."

In response to the controversy, BTS' fandom, known as 'ARMY,' released a statement in the form of a full-page advertisement in some newspapers under the name of 'BTS's ARMY.' In the statement, ARMYs claimed, "We criticize HYBE, the agency, for turning a blind eye to the significant damage that BTS, who is unrelated to the current situation, is suffering from false news and rumors."

Some ARMYs members also sent protest trucks with slogans such as 'An unethical company that uses artists in military service as shields' and 'Is this what an entertainment agency does?' Additionally, condolence wreaths with messages like 'Neglecting the rumor of a national hero' were sent to the HYBE headquarters in Yongsan, Seoul.

Regarding this matter, Big Hit Music stated in an official statement on the 2nd, "Various allegations that undermine BTS are not true, and false information and defamation posts have already been submitted to the authorities to investigate. We'll keep watching and collecting proof, and we might file more complaints later on."

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is currently investigating the suspicion of BTS Sajaegi. This incident resurfaced as the 2017 January coercion case verdict was recently disclosed on online communities. A individual (referred to as A) indicted for joint coercion over alleged BTS Sajaegi, stated at the time, "I have evidence of illegal marketing. If you don't pay, I will spread the related information to the media." A is accused of extorting a total of 57 M KRW from Big Hit Music in eight separate instances.

In response, Big Hit Music stated, "The inappropriate marketing activities mentioned in the perpetrator's coercion and blackmail are solely the perpetrator's unilateral claims, and 'manipulative marketing' refers to usual online viral marketing."

-Take them, and if possible, take Bang Sihyuk with you.

-Take themㅜ and while you're at it, take Bang too ㅠ

-Whatever.

-They probably think Korean netizens will be offended if they mock the Expo... Not at all..

-Hey, your oppas are not that big of a deal in Korea, go back.

-Shouldn't BTS apologize to Korea? They did illegal activities through Sajaegi, didn't they?

-No one cares about the group that did Sajaegi, so take them.

-These people's thoughts are so dangerous... So if someone is nationally famous, should all their shady practices and cheating be overlooked?

-Take it and take Bang and HYBE, except for Min Heejin and New Jeans.

-They really don't know what's going on..ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-ㅋㅋㅋㅋ.. It's really funnyㅋㅋㅋ

-....?? Korea is confused....

-It seems their fandom is always angry and resentful, not just in Korea.

-Return all the medals and commendations and take them... We don't need a fake group without any skill.

-They're at it again.

-Ah... Just take them, are BTS the only Korean singers?

-Please take them;; We don't want to own a Sajaegi group in Korea~

-Whatever... It won't change the fact that they did Sajaegi. So frustrating.

-Are they going to apologize for doing Sajaegi?ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Bubble's Profit Shares

Bubble's Profit Shares (Example of 4,500 KRW)

Dear U: 1,800 KRW (40%)
Artist's Company: 1,350 KRW (30%)
Platform: 1,350 KRW (30%)

Popular idols are said to earn thousands of KRW per month.

-If DearU and the platform are separate, they take more than expected. The company will divide it again from the 30% they receive...

-What percentage of the 1,350 KRW goes to the idols themselves from the company's 30%?

-Then, do idols divide the 1,350 KRW from the company based on the settlement ratio?? For example, if it's 7:3 with the company, each person gets 405 KRW??

-The platform = Google, Apple, all apps take 30% from there.

-I heard Bubble doesn't have any advertising costs, so that's the actual profit.

-Even if idols only receive 400 KRW per person, it's still a great deal, right?ㅋㅋㅋ

-Even if it's divided according to the contract from 1.350 KRW, if they make that much... it seems like they can afford luxury shopping every month. In the entertainment industry, isn't this just pocket money?

-My idols will probably just take it as pocket money, and even if they're not popular idols, they'll probably take a few hundred, maybe even a thousand of KRW per month...

-They receive too little unless they're popular idols

-Regardless of the amount or ratio, it's clear that it's all about making money. Since it's a paid service that generates income, it's quite natural. For celebrities, it's like earning pocket money, but that pocket money is still more than the monthly salary or even annual income of ordinary people.

-Idols seem to take fewer than expected.

-It's an enviable job, earning a few thousand of KRW just by sending a few messagesㅋㅋㅋ And it's not even mandatory.

-I envy being able to earn money just by textingㅋㅋ....

-I want to text and earn money too...

-Assuming it's about 450 KRW, you'd need over 40,000 subscribers to reach tens of millions, but there are idols with over 50,000 subscribers...?

-My idols can't even earn much, yet they're working hard on Bubbleㅠㅠ

The unreleased kissing scene of Kim Soohyun and Kim Jiwon that drives viewers crazy

This was first revealed not during the regular broadcast, but in a special episode.

-Seriously... why didn't they show this during the regular broadcast?

-The way Kim Soohyun pauses and smiles... Seriously crazyㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-Why didn't they show this crazy scene during the regular broadcast!!!

-The way he laughs as he stares at her lips... Damn it

-This is my first time seeing a drama giving out a kissing scene in a special episodeㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-How long have they been hiding this?

-Why are they releasing this now!!! Why didn't they show this during the regular broadcast...?

-The way Kim Soohyun smiles is really driving me crazy.

-Why release this after the drama has ended??

-Wow, so beautiful...

-I... want to see more...

-This feels so realㅠㅠㅠ

-Give me more... moreㅠㅠㅠ

-This is probably just a snippet given out in the special episode due to the audience's demand. Even then, why did they give out just a snippet?

-So beautiful...

Phone calls from sasaeng today, so creepy

 Dokyeom's Weverse Live

He picked up the phone, thinking it was Seungkwan. Turns out that a sasaeng named their caller ID as 'Seungkwan' and called Dokyeom. Sasaengs are so scary...

The sasaeng manipulated their caller ID to make it look like it's his teammate's number

Seeing the member's name on the screen, Dokyeom didn't suspect anything and picked up the phone, but it turned out to be a phone call from a sasaeng.

It's a technique mainly used in voice phising, but now even sasaeng fans are using it. This is really alarming.

There have been frequent incidents where live broadcasts were often interrupted by calls from sasaengs. That's why they always use the 'Do Not Disturb' mode (although it seems like they forgot to set it up that day). Jeonghan even used his iPad to do live broadcasts. This video is from last November, but instead of becoming less frequent, the methods the sasaengs use have become more malicious...

The sasaengs are suspected to be using this method. Especially since the members are using iPhone and when an unknown number calls them, only the caller ID appears without the phone number, that's why they always get fooled.

-What's the reason for going to such lengths????

-Seriously, what the heck

-It's really chilling;; Not satisfied with just calling after knowing the number, they also use voice phishing tactics to call...? This is insane.

-If you report that, wouldn't they get caught? It's identity theft, so isn't it a crime?

-That's obtaining information, stalking, a criminal threat, but for idols, it's treated as something they have to put up with, it's absurd.

-???? Wow????? Can't the agency sue for that????

-Isn't this a serious crime?

-Can't you report that to the police?

-I'm really sorry, but what is Dokyeom eating in that live broadcast?? Grilled intestines? Soondae? Looks delicious.

-Idols really have extreme jobsㅠ

-Wow, this can be considered as stalking...

-It's been a long time since all the Seventeen members' numbers were leaked... Whenever a member turns on the live, calls keep coming in, so they all either activate the "Do Not Disturb" mode or use a different phone, like an iPad, to start the broadcastㅜ Until now, sasaeng phone calls kept coming in and interrupting the live broadcast every minute, but since the members started avoiding calls altogether, it seems like they've changed their tactics...

-Disgusting

-Why is personal information being leaked so easily;;;

-My idol did a live broadcast and he kept getting phone calls from sasaengs. He eventually had to end the broadcast because of it.

-The kids must be going through so much..ㅜㅜ

-It's chilling;

-Scary... Report it to the police

-That's a crime...

-But why can't they be punished?? Isn't this a violation of the Personal Information Protection Act?

-Shouldn't they be punished for this?

(G)I-DLE Soyeon's fans spoke up after holding it in all this time

Caption: No matter how big the gap is between domestic and global fan culture, I don't consider myself a 'Cool' fan. Wasn't communication supposed to be two-way? What's the use of posting on social media? It's not like she's releasing a fan song to show her gratitude for the fans' support. All she did there was boasting about the stories of her ex-boyfriends. I can't support K-pop idols who do that.

Clip:

JSY: You can ask me things like 'Are you dating?' now

LCY: I can?

JSY: Yeah, you can. It's not a matter. Because I'm currently not in a relationship.

LCY: Why? Did you get dumped?

JSY: I've been dumped a lot

LCY: What are you talking about?

JSY: Why do you act like you don't know?

--

JSY: When people ask about my ideal type, I usually talk about Manhwa characters and stuff.

LCY: Like who?

JSY: I have three. I like white-heaired ones.

LCY: Really? They were all black-haired, though.

JSY: I'm talking about my ideal type. I like (men) with white hair.

--

JSY: I usually talk about 3 guys in 1 song... Each of them has a line dedicated to them...?

LCY: If you talk about 3 guys in 1 song... (How many songs have this Unnie written...?) Then you're a really cool Unnie, though?

JSY: No... I mean, I combinate the experiences I had with each of them in 1 song

LCY: None of it makes sense to me right now

theqoo

-I understand the fan's feelings...

-It's been long since her debut, right? It seems like her company lets her do that freely anyway...

-Seems like she wants to look cool, but it backfires.

-Wow, that's a bit too much TMI.

-I sympathize with the fans too.

-That's too much...

-That's something you do when you're a solo rapper, not a member of an idol group...

-Seems like she wants to be the Korean version of Taylor Swift...

-Double standards. If she was a male idol, this clips would've gone viral right away.

-At least have some basic manners, you wouldn't have gotten to this position without the fans...

-Poor fansㅠㅠ

-Seems like she's intoxicated by her abilities and coolness... Don't forget that she's an idol who can't do without the love of her fans.

-Looks like she forgot that she's an idol?

-I feel really sorry for her fans...

-Why is she so excited tot alk about that?

-She became popular and made a lot of money because of her fans' support... But she forgot where she came from. She forgot the desperateness she once had.

-Even IU doesn't act like that...

-She's nothing without her fans...

-That's not cool at all... Who do you think would love to hear stories about your past relationships? Do you really think your fans would love to hear that?
