Rowoon, Controversial Combo from the Start of the Year

Actor Rowoon has been at the center of various controversies since the beginning of the year. Although Rowoon hosted the '2023 KBS Drama Awards' and received three awards, he became embroiled in controversies due to verbal mistakes and qualification issues.

On December 31st of the previous year, Rowoon hosted the '2023 KBS Drama Awards' held at the KBS New Building in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, alongside broadcaster Jang Sung-kyu and actress Seol In-ah.

On that day, due to nervousness, Rowoon was seen reading the prompter in a robotic manner without showing any laughter or reactions. Jang Sung-kyu, who was co-hosting, also seemed uncomfortable.

Jang Sung-kyu jokingly remarked, "Can I borrow your soul?" pointing out Rowoon's awkwardness. Unlike the other two MCs who had familiarized themselves with the script in advance and hosted naturally, Rowoon seemed to be solely focused on the prompter.

Despite having appeared as an MC about ten times since his debut and even appearing as a fixed MC on recent audition programs, it was hard to find his skills or efforts.

Moreover, on that day, Rowoon won the Best Actor Award, surpassing Jang Dong-yoon who won an Excellence Award for 'Oasis.' 'Oasis' had recorded a high viewer rating of 9.7%, making it the top-rated KBS mini-series.

However, controversies arose over Rowoon winning the award for Best Actor despite his relatively lower profile and popularity as an MC compared to Jang Dong-yoon.

Another issue was Rowoon's acceptance speech. After saying, "As someone who loves acting and wants to do well, I will continue to work hard," he added, "Please watch over me with blurry eyes."

The phrase "watch over with blurry eyes" typically implies knowingly ignoring something wrong and pretending not to know. While only Rowoon knows his true intentions behind the statement, it can be interpreted as him asking for understanding regarding his limited acting skills.

Rowoon has damaged his own image. The goodwill he had built through his activities with SF9 and various acting roles quickly eroded.

-There's a difference between being incapable and showing no effort. Koreans really hate it when people don't show effort. If he's not feeling well, he should take a break. Why try to do everything?

-"Blurry eyes"? Even on a rewatch, the acceptance speech was so awkward. I wish they hadn't chosen him as an MC; it was so uncomfortable to watch.

-He deserves criticism. If he messed up the hosting that badly, he deserves to be criticized.

-Forget about other things, but don't make him an MC again. It seemed like he was forced into doing it. It looked like he was dragged there against his will. He didn't leave his group on good terms, and now he's added this image to himself.

-Those calling everything a controversy must not have watched the awards. His attitude was really off. I hope he realizes after reading this article.

-"Watch over with blurry eyes" LOL Seriously, this is hilarious. Crazy.

-Who uses "blurry eyes" in a positive context?ㅋㅋㅋㅋ Also, he's bad at MCing... (I watched the year-end KBS show or some Music Bank Global Festival, and his style was so different from other MCs that I thought he was deliberately acting poorly with a concept.)

-Even if he meant it as a plea due to a misunderstanding of the meaning, it's still not good. He's getting paid to work. If he's lacking in some areas, he should make up for it with effort. What's with hoping for leniency? If it was just his solo album, he would be the only one affected, but among dozens of other actors, it's embarrassing to act poorly. With that attitude, he'll never improve.

-Is he going through a tough time lately? He should reduce his workload. MCing like that is just damaging his reputation.

-He really can't host. I don't know if he's good at acting, but he just can't host, they had to cut and restart multiple times.

-What?

-What the hell?ㅋㅋ just remove 'Seoul'.

-Is this even a Korean award show?

-Should we just consider it a nonexistent award show from now on?

-For a Korean music award show, Korean fans can't watch it?ㅋㅋㅋ

-It's the Seoul Music Awards, why can't we watch it in Korea?

-What a mess...

-They're Korean artists, why can't we watch them in Korea? This is comedy.

-They're not even hosting it in Seoul, not broadcasting it either. What's the point of its existence? Who is this award show for? It's such a poor excuse for an authoritative award show. Please remove 'Seoul'.

-Why Thailand?

-Holding a Korean award show in Thailand and only broadcasting in Japan... Confusing, so confusing.

-I don't care; I wasn't going to watch it anyway...

-They go all the way to Thailand with the name Seoul, but only Japanese people can watch the live broadcast? Everything is surprising.

-It wouldn't be surprising if it shut down in a few years.

-It's just a paid concert with the name of an award show.

-A disgraceㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-It's like the Thailand Music Awards.

-Why can't we watch our country's award show in Korea?......................

An employee from SM Entertainment's team commented on the post of the trainee that went viral.

Today, the newly revealed SM trainee born in 2005, Sujin.

Who is that? I don't know... it's the first time I've seen her.

-? Where did it come from?ㅋㅋ

-Wasn't the challenge posted on the official account?

-There's no trainee from SM who revealed their face (Haeun is a separate issue). But there was a cake photo of the female trainees uploaded by SM before, and one of the cakes in the photo was held by that person, so they said it's an SM trainee.

-But seriously, who is she? An entertainer?

-Those who said it went viral, where did they go?ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-I just checked that account, but that comment isn't there?? Did they delete it?

-How did you know it's an account of SM Entertainment's employee?

-It didn't seem like accurate information.

Former April member Lee Naeun denies dating rumors with soccer player Lee Kang-in, says they are 'just acquaintances'

Actress Lee Naeun, formerly of the group April, has denied rumors of being in a relationship with soccer player Lee Kang-in.

An official from Lee Naeun's agency, Namoo Actors, stated to Newsen on January 2nd, "Lee Naeun and Lee Kang-in are merely acquaintances and not in a romantic relationship."

theqoo

-Smart... Based on the reactions now, denying it is better for both sides...

-Acquaintances, haha, if they're acquaintances, they're acquaintances, okay.

-They spent time together at home, but they're just acquaintances?ㅋㅋ

-They must be close enough to exchange tickets.

-Everyone seems to be saying that.

-They're close enough to come and go from each other's homes? Okay.

-It's hard to believe they're just acquaintances if they've met alone at home several timesㅋㅋ

-So they're acquaintances, but they left the woman's house at 7 in the morning?

-Do they think people are fools?ㅋㅋ

-They met alone at home several times, but anyway, they're just acquaintancesㅋㅋ

-Shouldn't this have come out on January 1st? Why is it coming out today???

-Seeing them deny it now makes me think it might not be the case. Why bring up something from November in January?

-Why are people so angry about someone else's relationship?

-Who would believe that?

Today, K-pop idols are dancing on the stage of the NHK Joint Concert featuring YOASOBI.

-Top K-pop idols dancing as backup dancers to an anime theme... Is this right?

-Going there as backup dancers at the year-end event... What's their pride? Money must be the most important.

-Even I, who's not a fan, can tell it's wrong... Why are they doing that?

-Seeing the title "JK-Pop" annoys me. lol.

-They're top K-pop idols after all... It's so disappointing to see them groveling on a stage in Japan, especially when no one even knows who they are from the Korean perspective. And they're doing that instead of appearing on year-end broadcasts in Korea.

-This is weird... Why are our idols working as backup dancers?

-There's something off... There are things that don't look right.

-When it comes to money, there's no pride or anything else, as expected of money-loving HYBE.

-My idol behaving like this gives me second thoughts.

-If this was a year-end stage in Korea, they would have set it up so nicely... Why is it like this? Do the fans really not mind this?

-I usually don't leave negative comments about celebrities, but this is so out of place... Watching it makes me feel weird and very uncomfortable. Why did they have to go and do that at the end of the year?

-All those idols are really popular, so why put them as mere backup dancers? I feel bad for the idols.

-I have my favorite idol there, and I really don't like this...

-Honestly, I feel betrayed by those groups. Why are they doing this on a Japanese year-end stage???

The advice that the counselor at HYBE gives to the trainees

For example, let's say a trainee says this: "I have a dance I want to specialize in. It's a genre called popping. However, the company tells me to only dance idol choreography. So, I feel depressed."

This isn't a matter of the heart. It stems from not understanding the concept of a profession properly. No matter how young the trainee is, I always use honorifics.

"The company isn't the place to fulfill your dreams. It's not a place where you do what you want as a hobby. It's a place you go to earn money. To do that, you need to first do what benefits the company. That's what a job is. But do you know what's surprising? You're doing well at what the company wants. And when you do that well, you'll have many opportunities to do what you want."

Idol trainees. They can't always get along. Especially if there's a trainee in a team whose skills are lacking, they face significant pressure from their peers. What should be done in such situations? I provide the concept.

"You're not school juniors or seniors here. You're business partners. What happens to a business if partners fight or harass each other? There's only one way for a business to succeed. Partners need to respect each other and help each other."

-While that's true, the last part bothers me. It seems like there's a need for some stress management. It's a problem that even adults might find challenging, and it must be even harder for kids. If a company works with minors, they should be more attentive.

-This is exactly the advice I need at 25.

-Even in regular corporate hiring, there's talk about dreams and passion. In reality, we're just accessories. Being an idol doesn't seem to have any special gap in that regard.

-It's true... If they genuinely want to dance, they should pursue a path as a dancer, not as an idol.

-That's just how the world works. Even if you find it boring or dislike it, turning it into a profession is part of life.

-Even for teenagers, knowing reality is more important than chasing illusions.

-Once they debut, there's no turning back. Without that mindset from the start, if it turns out different than what they dreamed of after debut, it could become even more challenging. Even if they're young students, they're learning the attitude required for a lifelong profession.

-But in any profession, don't you have to do things you don't want to? To earn money and do what you want, you have to do tasks you may not like. Since idols start young, teaching them the basics seems reasonable.

-From experience, I've found that such realistic advice is better. Comfort isn't always the best; sometimes, pushing a bit harder is beneficial.

Kim Woo-bin Donates 100 Million Won to Seoul Asan Hospital

Actor Kim Woo-bin began the new year of 2024 with heartwarming news.

His agency, AM Entertainment, announced on the 1st, "Recently, Kim Woo-bin donated 100 million won to Seoul Asan Hospital to support vulnerable patients."

Starting in 2014, Kim Woo-bin began donating anonymously to help low-income teenagers. Every year, he continues to provide support for children with cancer through Seoul Asan Hospital and consistently donates to marginalized groups. Whenever social disasters like the COVID-19 pandemic, wildfires, or floods occur, he naturally participates in relief efforts, adding warmth to society. Especially last July, when heavy rain caused widespread flooding across the country, despite being abroad at the time, Kim Woo-bin quickly stepped forward with a donation, hoping to help those affected.

Furthermore, on Christmas Eve last year, December 24th, Kim Woo-bin sent Christmas gifts to over 200 children in the pediatric ward of Seoul Asan Hospital, offering his support. Demonstrating his meticulous care by preparing custom art sets, school supplies, and tumblers for the children in 2022, Kim Woo-bin also sent a handwritten card this time with the Christmas gifts, writing, "I hope more miracles happen this Christmas. I wish that 2024 will be filled with even healthier and happier moments than this year. Fighting! Merry Christmas♡."

Consistently seeking places where help is needed and hoping to make a difference with his donations, Kim Woo-bin's continuous acts of kindness serve as an inspiration to many.
