-Stay strong, guys!!! You guys are not wrong!!

-I'm cheering for you all!! Fighting!!

-Don't lose, Dongduk Women's University!!!!!!! Fighting!!!!!!!

-This is so freaking cool.

-It's amazing how the school doesn't even flinch in this situation.

-How can anyone call this violent? What about those people who ate pizza in front of parents fasting for their lost children? Do they even know the hateful remarks by Christian protesters against LGBTQ+ every week?

-How is this a violent protest? Did they throw Molotov cocktails? Did they kidnap or assault someone?

-This time, the women will win!! Fighting!!

-Fighting. Stay strong, ladies.

-I'm sure once this matter is settled and the campus decides to keep its identity as a Women's University, the students will definitely clean up and restore everything. I'm rooting for them.

-Fighting. Don't give up!!

-I'm rooting for them!!!! But this somehow looks sad... I don't know why.

-Fighting to all female students of Dongduk Women's University.

Dongduk Women's University claimed "No discussions about transforming into co-ed institution" ... Yet "DWU has been considering transforming into co-ed institution for 3 years"

Daily Chosun | Journalist Go Gijung

https://m.monthly.chosun.com/client/Mdaily/daily_view.asp?Idx=20754&Newsnumb=20241120754

Professor mentions the transition into a co-ed institution during class ... "The campus treated it as a 'confidential matter'"

◉ A student from DWU submitted a 15-minute long recording to Monthly Chosun

◉ The campus stated, "We have never discussed transitioning into a co-ed institution", but...

◉ Professor A: "The university started discussions about it 2-3 years ago. They recently began asking professors for opinions two months ago"

◉ "A public hearing with students is planned for December ... Transition into co-ed institution expected to begin in 2027"

DWU's student council explained that the students' distrust of the school began from their 'demands' not being properly reflected in the school's academic administration. They cited incidents such as the infamous 'Naked Man', when a service company employee who came to repair the campus facilities trespassed into the school area and took obscene pictures in 2018. Another incident they cited was a tragic accident last year where a student was hit and killed by the campus' garbage truck. Additionally, students claimed that in 2022, the university merged the German and French language departments unilaterally without communicating with the students.

The conflict reached its peak on November 7, when reports quickly spread about the university's 'transition into a co-ed institution' matter was raised in a campus meeting without students' consent. In response, students staged a protest in strong opposition to the transition, fueled by the anger that accumulated so far.

In their official statement, DWU labeled the students' protest as 'acts of violence' and stated that "There has been no discussion about transitioning into a co-ed institution." The university added, "We are aware of this issue. We are taking this matter seriously and will hold those responsible to account," and emphasized, "We strongly urge our students to be careful and to avoid being involved with external organizations that could be harmful."

They claimed "There has been no discussion"... Yet, the professors were already aware of the transition.

"No discussions" This is the reason why DWU refused to communicate with students. The university claims that there has been no discussion about transitioning into a co-ed institution.

However, according to a recording obtained exclusively by Monthly Chosun, the university had been planning the transition for 2-3 years. It was only two months ago the university began formally asking professors for their opinions as they proceeded to implement the plan.

⭐️In 2024, six male students were discreetly admitted into the new International Studies Korean Culture program (for international students)⭐️

-ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋHow can they lie like that?

-They're scammers. How can they do not say anything to the students who pay tuition?

-Even lying has its limits.

-So disgusting.

-Seriously?? They're doing all this behind the students' backs?

-And yet they lied about having no discussions about transitions into a co-ed institution and even called the students' protest violent...

-So f*cking shady. Did they really try to let this pass without students' consents?

-What?ㅋㅋㅋ They did exactly the opposite of what they said in their statement^^

-This is chilling.

-I figured this would happen.

-How can the university scam their own students?

-So the university lied from the beginning.

-Are they scammers or what?

-Begins the transition in 2017???? 5 years are not that far off, though?????

-They're scammers... If they were so confident about it, why not tell the students upfront instead of doing things behind their backs?

-ㅋㅋ They're doing things as they please

-That is insane. The real owners of the university are the students.

-Liar... They didn't lie about just one or two things...

Summary of Dongduk Women's University current situation (DWU did not engage in violent protests)

1. The university is pushing plans to turn into a co-ed institution. They have been discussing this secretly for six years.

2. The student council realizes what's happening. They planned to convey the students' positions to the university, but the university refused to communicate, saying that the matter hadn't even been confirmed yet.

3. The student starts protesting, with the goal of setting up a meeting between the university's president and the student council to convey the students' positions and opinions and to handle the co-ed transformation democratically.

4. The university's president refuses to meet the student council, saying "Meet the department head first." However, the department head didn't show up for the meeting that was already scheduled for November 11th. The students waited all afternoon and started a sit-in protest.

6. The university issued a statement on the 12th: This was just a simple item on the agenda. The school was planning to hear the students' opinions on the 12th, but the students began a violent protest on the 11th.

However, six foreign male students have been enrolled to the university since this year. If you search, there’s a male student ratio among the students who are currently enrolled. The current situation was revealed because of this. The university quietly enrolled male students into a women’s university and tried to discuss this as an undisclosed matter. It's clear that the university had already tried to transform into a co-ed institution in secret. Regardless of coeducation, the university is clearly neglecting the students' rights as members of the university.

Currently, the school is issuing statements saying that students are 'conducting violent protests,' but this is not the case. The protest will end once the school communicates with the students and sets up a meeting with the president.

-Who exactly is being violent here? The ones who threatened students with bricks and grabbed them by the collar were actually the university's side and the professorsㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-It's the students who are being harassed. Do they not know what violence is?

-The violence is happening to the students...

-Someone said if this happened in France, the students would probably burning down the school's building alreadyㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-Isn’t it more violent for a professor to threaten students with a brick?

-They refused to communicate with the students and now they're saying that the students are conducting a violent protest?? What kind of nonsense is this?

-Violence???? Why are these men so stupid?? What? Did the students go stabbing people in the city?? Did they beat up random people on the street??? Did they doxx people?? Stalk people?? What did they actually do?

-The university's president is such a coward.

-A women's university is only for women!

-Did they occupy the university president's office? Did they lock people up and beat them?? Violent protest my assㅋㅋㅋ

-Why are they refusing to communicate!!

-Do they really not know what violence is? Did they throw Molotov cocktails? Did they use spears to destroy property?

-Do you not know what the word 'violence' means? To me, it just looks like they’re doing everything they can to avoid negotiations.

-Enrolling male students out of the blue is more of an emotional violence to female students, and they’re calling this protest violent? What kind of bullshit is this.

-It’s the students who are being threatened, so where’s the violent protest???

-Honestly, feminism in our country is way too mild. The Suffragettes burned down churches.

The thing that a professor at Dongduk Women's University say to the protesting students: Why are you wearing masks? Are you victims of deepfakes?

The professor mocked and threatened students, saying: “Why are you wearing masks? Are you victims of deepfakes? I’ll call the police.” But I AM the one who blurs your face because I'm worried you're getting deepfaked.

However, the student still blurred the professor’s face when uploading the video to protect her.

theqoo

-That thing is a professor?

-Just because she's a professor doesn’t mean she deserves respect.

-Look at how that professor talks.

-Be thankful you weren’t hit with a brick.

-Is that really something to say to students... Seriously?

-Professor-ah, don't just study. Learn about gender sensitivity too.

-Can professors talk like that? Deepfakes are serious issues and she just casually mentions it like that??

-How did she even become a professor? Let's dig up her research.

-She was the one who spoke rudely first. The students were actually being gentle to her.

-The students are taking care of that professor's rights... Meanwhile, that professor herself...ㅋ

-Maybe it’s time to replace the entire faculty while they're at it.

-It’s like saying 'Did you get sexually harassed?' And they call that a professor?

-The students are more mature than her.

-The students are too kind. If I were one of the students, I'd purposely call her by her name on the video.

-That thing's a professor? I feel sorry for the students.

-Both the police and professors are looking down on us, which is why we need to exist and stand strong.

A man grabs a student by the collar during a protest at Dongduk Women's University

This man entered the campus area and filmed around without permission. When that student tried to check his phone, he grabbed her by the collar and threatened her.

Here is the link to the petition against turning Dongduk Women's University into a co-ed institution. If you have time, please take a moment to sign it.

-What the f*ck is he doing?

-Why aren't they arresting him?

-What are the police doing? That’s clearly assault.

-He should get kicked in his f*cking dick.

-If his face is clearly captured in the video, I hope that student sues him for assault.

-Police officer... Instead of talking nonsense, why don't you arrest that bastard?

-I'm genuinely asking... Can regular women help too? Not just the female university students???

-Whoa... You’re grabbing someone by the collar who’s a whole head shorter than you? Aren’t you even embarrassed? Shame on you, seriously.

-Can’t he be sued? It’s frustrating there’s nothing we can do other than sign the petition.

-I wish there were something we could do to help from the outside.

-A man... Grabbing someone who is a whole head shorter than him by the collar...

-He's personally proving why we should oppose turning women's universities into co-ed institutions. So f*cking impressive.

-Isn’t the school supposed to protect its students? What’s going on?

-This is exactly the reason why we need women's universities.

-What is wrong with this country?
