President Trump stated, "Our film production business has been stolen by other countries as if they were taking candy from a baby. To solve this old and never-ending problem, we will impose 100% tariffs on all movies produced outside the United States."
He also emphasized that, "California, in particular, with its incompetent governor, has taken a major hit." This remark appears to target California Governor Gavin Newson, a potential future presidential candidate. The U.S film industry, centered in Hollywood, has not fully recovered from the effects of COVID-19, which Trump pointed out.
Back in May, President Trump said he would impose 100% tariffs on movies produced abroad. However, after the stock prices of major Hollywood companies like Disney and Netflix fell, he backed down just one day later, stating, "No final decision has been made." At the time, he aded, "I don't want to harm the film industry. I want to help it."
Meanwhile, President Trump also stated that he would impose significant tariffs on furniture produced abroad. He announced, "To make North Carolina great again, where the furniture industry has been completely stolen by China and other countries, I will impose heavy tariffs on all nations that do not manufacture furniture in the United States." North Carolina is a key battleground state in elections, and its governor, Josh Stein, is a Democrat.
