"You were dating someone within the company, huh?" ... Agency CEO who assaulted an underage idol receives suspended sentence

The former CEO of an entertainment agency who assaulted an underage idol with a blunt object has been sentenced to a suspended prison term in the first trial.

The court also ordered A to complete 120 hours of community service.

According to News1 on the 29th, the Seoul Central District Court sentenced the former CEO, A, to one year in prison with a three-year suspension on the 14th. A was charged with aggravated assault, battery, and child abuse.

A, who was the CEO of an entertainment company, was indicted for assaulting a member of an idol group at their dormitory last June. According to reports, A was intoxicated at the time of the incident. The investigation began after the assaulted member filed a police report

A is also accused of assaulting another underage member, B, for allegedly dating the group's manager. A questioned B about the relationship, accusing him of violating company rules. When B denied his accusations, A repeatedly hit him on the thighs and buttocks.

Furthermore, it was revealed that A also assaulted B and the other members of the same group with a metal rod because 'the dorm's bathroom is dirty.'

The court stated, “The defendant repeatedly assaulted a child who had little ability to resist or defend himself, using a hanger rod he had prepared in advance. The level of violence was so severe that not only did the hanger break, it also caused injuries requiring four weeks of treatment."

The judge continued, “The defendant also struck other members with a hanger, targeting their heads, making the assault highly dangerous. Considering the circumstances of the crime, the defendant's criminal conduct is severe."

They added, "However, considering that the defendant has admitted to all the crimes, resigned from his position as CEO, and reached an agreement with some of the victims for 80 million KRW. Additionally, the defendant has no criminal record or history of similar crimes beyond fines, these factors were taken into account when determining the sentence."

“Coach Shin Taeyong, thank you so much” Hundreds of Indonesian fans gathered … Meanwhile the Football Association remained until the end “There was no farewell gift”

Indonesian fans are expressing great regret over parting ways with Coach Shin Taeyong (55). Even just before he left Indonesia, hundreds of supporters were spotted following him.

Indonesian media Bolanet reported on the 27th (Korean time), “Coach Shin has returned to his home country, South Korea,” and “On the evening of the 26th, Coach Shin headed to Korea via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang. Hundreds of supporters gathered to see him off.”

The media continued, “Coach Shin and his coaching staff are all set to leave for their respective activities. One of Coach Shin’s staff members, Yoo Jaehoon, who lives in Bali will also return to Korea.”

The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) unexpectedly dismissed Coach Shin earlier this month. Despite leading Indonesia to its first-ever World Cup third qualification round, Coach Shin was surprisingly dismissed. According to Vietnamese media VN, Coach Shin was also quite surprised by PSSI’s decision. He told Indonesian media, “PSSI announced my dismissal at 9:40 AM. By noon, they announced my successor (Patrick Kluivert). This decision is very unreasonable, but I will accept it.”

It seems like five years of his dedication is going to waste now. Coach Shin took over Indonesia at the end of 2019 and led both the U-23 national team and the senior national team. In the 2024 AFC U-23 Asian Cup, he led the team to an unexpected fourth-place finish.

Under Coach Shin, the Indonesian senior national team achieved second place in the 2020 AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup and reached the semifinals in the 2022 tournament. Additionally, under his leadership, Indonesia made history by advancing to the round of 16 in the 2023 AFC Qatar Asian Cup.

The decision was made by PSSI President Erick Thohir. According to Indonesian media VOI, Thohir explained that “Indonesian football is aiming for greater heights” as the reason for dismissing Coach Shin and appointing Kluivert.

PSSI remained disrespectful until the end. According to Indonesian media Bolasport, Yoo Jaehoon shared in an interview after meeting with the Minister of Sports, “I received a souvenir from the Minister before leaving for the airport. PSSI didn’t give me any souvenirs.”

MBC released a statement regarding the late Oh Yoanna’s workplace harassment allegations: “We will conduct an investigation if her family requests it.”

On the 28th, MBC released a statement regarding allegations that the late Oh Yoanna, an MBC weathercaster who passed away in September last year, suffered workplace harassment. MBC stated that they would launch an investigation only if it was requested by her family.

In the official statement, MBC said, “MBC currently does not have the will that was recently confirmed to be written by the late Oh Yoanna,” and added, “If her family requests an investigation based on the will that was recently discovered, MBC is prepared to begin an investigation in the shortest possible time.”

The previous day, Maeil Newspaper reported that the late weathercaster wrote a 17-page (2,750-character) will in the memo app on her phone, where she wrote in details the workplace harassment she experienced caused by two colleagues who are her seniors, before taking her own life.

The late Oh Yoanna, who became an MBC weathercaster in May 2021, reportedly became a target of workplace harassment starting in March the following year. Records showing that she informed several MBC officials about the harassment before her death, but it was reported that MBC did not conduct any investigations even after she passed away.

Regarding this matter, MBC stated, “The late Oh Yoanna, while working as a freelancer, never informed the relevant department or any managerial supervisors she worked with about her hardships.” They added, “If she had informed any MBC personnel about the issues, we ask that you let us know who that person is.”

MBC further stated, “If she had officially reported her hardships to the company at the time, or even unofficially informed responsible managers about her suffering in any way, the company would have naturally conducted an investigation.”

Oh Yoanna passed away in September last year at the age of 28. At the time, the cause of her death was not disclosed.

In this context, the People Power Party’s Media Special Committee released a statement, saying, “MBC is avoiding responsibility by claiming that the late Oh Yoanna never reported her hardships to the department related or any managerial supervisors and stating that they will conduct an investigation only if her family requests it. This clearly shows that MBC issued a statement reluctantly only because it became controversial.”

The committee added, “The People Power Party will uncover the truth behind this tragic incident and hold those responsible legally and morally accountable.”

Late Oh Yoanna’s will revealed … “Wear pretty clothes to my funeral like it’s a party”

It was belatedly revealed that MBC weathercaster Oh Yoanna, who passed away in September last year at the age of 28, had taken her own life, and part of her will has been disclosed.

According to a report by Maeil Newspaper on the 27th, the deceased, born in 1996, wrote a 17-page will in her phone’s memo app at around 1:05 AM on September 15 last year, right before taking her own life. The will included details alleging that she had been bullied by two fellow weathercasters.

Following the report, parts of Oh Yoanna’s will, saved on her phone, were shared and circulated in online communities.

The will stated: “Please hold my funeral outdoors, like a party. Everyone should wear dresses or pretty clothes, eat finger food, and send me off with smiles. And please don’t bury me anywhere. Cremate me and scatter my ashes into the sea. Any sea is fine, or a river is okay too.”

Oh Yoanna confessed, “Living is so, so exhausting. I hate not being understood even when I try to explain myself, and I hate not being able to love the work I love to my heart’s content. I’m so sick of the pain I feel in my back that feels like it’s splitting, and the pain in my chest that feels like it’s tearing apart.”

She continued, “I don’t like how the people who love me put themselves in inconvenience while trying to save me. Waiting for God’s timing is also too hard. (Cont’d) You said all human relationships are like that, right? Keep living that way, deleting uncomfortable relationships as you go.”

The omitted parts of the will are assumed to mention individuals suspected to be perpetrators.

It has been reported that the deceased, who was hired as an MBC weathercaster in May 2021, became a target of bullying starting in March the following year.

Fellow weathercasters reportedly shifted blame onto her for mistakes they made, called her back to the office after she had already gone home, claiming she ‘needed to be taught,’ or prevented her from leaving work.

When she was invited to appear on tvN’s You Quiz on the Block in 2022, they allegedly asked, “What could you possibly say there?” and criticized her skills for quite a long time.

Before her death, she informed four MBC staff members about the bullying, but it is said that MBC took no action, sparking controversy. MBC has yet to release a statement regarding this matter.

tvN 'Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born' reportedly faced a deficit despite achieving 16% viewer ratings

Despite surpassing a 10% viewer rating, 'Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born' still experienced loss. Initially, a total production cost of 336 Billion KRWwas agreed upon with Studio Dragon, but the production costs skyrocketed due to extensive efforts to focus on the historical scenes.

The main character, Kim Taeri, received over 300 M KRW per episode. Similar to the fee Kim Soohyun received when he starred in 'Queen of Tears. While actresses usually earn less than actors, Kim Taeri earned her pay through her popularity. Her agency, Management mmm, also played a part in the production from the planning stage.

Although the drama was simultaneously released on Disney+, the 12-episode format and historical genre made it less profitable. While CJ ENM and Studio Dragon officials claimed to have recovered the production costs, rumors in the industry suggested otherwise. It's also rumored that Disney+ suffered significant losses due to this drama. With MBC filing a lawsuit against the production company, the losses are expected to increase.

It seems that even high viewer ratings can't cover the high production costs for TV dramas...

theqoo

-Given this situation, it makes sense why episode counts are decreasing.

-Why not just reduce actors' fees?

-Can’t they cut down the actors' fees?ㅠㅠㅠ

-300 M KRW per episode? That's crazy.

-Unless all the actors agree to lower their salaries, the quality of dramas will gradually decline and eventually lead to the failure of the Korean drama industry.

-Kim Taeri alone took 10% of the total production cost? Whoa...

-300 M KRW per episode?? Is this confirmed?

-They should’ve at least made a good ending then. It's funny how they expected success when they ruined the original work.

-I'm glad I didn't watch it.

-The Korean drama industry is going to collapse because of the skyrocketing production costs caused by actors fees...

-Kim Taeri and Kim Soohyun are earning 300 M KRW per episode? That's too much. No wonder they're losing money.

-That's a lot of money... Is her acting even worth 300 M KRW per episode?

-If Kim Taeri was too expensive for them, they shouldn’t have cast her in the first place... This deficit could've been avoided...
