'Don't joke with me. I just got off the plane...' <- NCT WISH unable to perform at SM TOWN Concert in L.A. due to visa issuesㅠ

 

'Don't joke with me. I just got off the plane...' 


NCT WISH will not be able to join the SM TOWN LIVE 2025 in L.A. stage due to visa issues.

To perform on this stage with fans, we diligently completed all required procedures, including document submission and interviews to obtain visa approval. However, due to unexpected delays, we were unable to obtain the visa.

Currently, it's difficult to determine the exact reason or cause for the delay in approval. Although we did our best to resolve the issue, we ultimately could not obtain the visas and the group will not be able to perform on stage.

We are deeply saddened and feel heavy-hearted thinking of the fans who have been waiting and looking forward to NCT WISH's stage. We did our best to get the visa approved until the very last moment. We sincerely apologize for not being able to keep our promise.

Most of all, we deeply apologize for disappointing the fans who took their precious time to come and wait for the performance.

We will work harder to show you a better side of us in the future so that your support and expectations are not in vain.

SION: It's going to be my first time visiting Mexico and L.A., I'm really excited. 

If they canceled the flight 5 days ago, they must've already known it wouldn't work. So why did they delay this announcement?

Starting with Taeyeon, it really feels like they think fans are fools. It's not even some nearby place, it's the U.S. We're talking about hundreds of dollars...

They should compensate for the flight tickets, accommodation, and ticket prices.

-Among the idols who went to SM TOWN Concert, there are Japanese and Chinese nationals. They have f*cking diverse nationals there. So why did this problem only happen to NCT WISH?ㅠㅠ

-But both the idols and the companies must've suffered losses too because of this... Why is everyone blaming SM?

-It's not like the issue happened because they applied lateㅋㅋ U.S. visas these days are a total gamble.

Jaehee: Hey, listen. I thought I might be doing a video call with you today. So I hadn’t finished it yet, but finished it all and went to sleep last night. I literally stayed up until dawn to finish it.

Fan: Really? That's so touching! Then what part did you like?

Jaehee: Me? Ah, just... the book's expressions, the words in it were just nice. Like… How they overcome pain and the ending? I really liked that too. There were so many good parts.

RIIZE Wonbin and NCT WISH Sion were casted through DM by the same person

 

There's always an addition to the story of Sion's DM casting every time he talks about itㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ It turns out that the person who cast Sion through DM was the same person who cast RIIZE's Wonbin through DM. 

Shownu: How did Sion get into the company?

Sion: Through Instagram… I was cast via DM.

Jungwoo: Who's the genius that cast someone like Sion? They deserve an award!

Sion: It’s the same person who cast Wonbin.

Shownu: Oh, RIIZE's Wonbin?

Jungwoo: Wow... That person must have great eyes.

Sion: I thought it was a scam when I first got the DM on Instagram, but after that, I got a call, and that’s how I knew it was really SM Ent.

Jungwoo: How did you feel when you got that call?

Sion: At first, I was like, "You want me to come all the way to Seoul by myself?" So, I told them I couldn’t go.

Shownu: Where’s your hometown originally?

Sion: Mokpo, Jeollanam-do. I told them I couldn’t go to Seoul... but then they came all the way to Mokpo for me.

Context: NCT Wish's member, Sion (A true KIA Tigers fan) was originally planned to throw the first pitch at the KIA Tigers game in Champions Field on the 21st, but it was canceled due to rain. Of course, there are female idols who have localized as well.

※ Why Localization?

Entertainment companies in South Korea generally share similar thoughts: they reach a limit in producing idols (things like reaching overseas market) -> mix in locals -> encounter another limit (like political issues) -> let's stick to locals only (current stage).

But now, even localization strategies have shifted:

-> It's hard to capture the domestic market, and localized groups usually don't gain a lot of international fans -> This affects their promotional activities in South Korea, attracting global attention, and gaining popularity in South Korea => Tend to actively promote in South Korea first before changing their directions

+ Localization is often just a facade. Companies now introduce newcomers without distinguishing them as localized, essentially no different from existing idol activities, so there's no reason to label them as such.

-I only know NCT Wish

-Is EXO-M the first in this field?

-A smart way to exploit locals to earn foreign currency, without tax evasion.

-If they're going to work in Korea, they need to study history properly before coming.

-So should we call them a Korean group? Or should we call them a group from that country?

-This is all new to me.

-Among the Japanese localized teams, NCT WISH has the most simultaneous activities in Korea and Japan, and the rest mainly just stays in Japan. However, as the other comment has stated, they are gradually adding the title of global group as they do a few activities on Korean music shows. I wonder what direction NEX7 will take.

-I'm just... I quit being a fan and stopped paying attention to idol gossip, but seeing this... I mean, I appreciate various attempts, but it doesn't feel like K-pop to me. Why only recruit foreigners and then make them do activities in Korea? It seems like they still treat Korean fans or the public as fools. It just makes me less interested in idols.

-NCT WISH seems to be putting a lot of effort into learning Korean, and you can see the members are close.

-In the end, it seems like it will end up with a mix of Koreans and foreigners, centered around Koreans again. Localized groups like in the post may gain popularity solely within the country but may not attract a pure K-pop fandom overseas... For example, if it's a Japanese localized group, they'll just become a Japanese J-pop group and only be seen by J-pop fans...

-Anyway, there are already so many idols, and now even localized idols are releasing albums and performing in Korea, and they're even appearing on year-end stages, so I feel like they're interfering too much...

-That's why they aren't remembered much as Kpop idols. I only know the group names vaguely.

-If you're going to come out on Korean music shows, bring Korean songs... It's really annoying to see them sing in Chinese or English.

-What were entertainment companies in Korea thinking when they created localized idols?

-I wish WayV would do more activities in Koreaㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ They've been on Korean broadcasts recently, but it would be nice if they released some Korean songs...

-I only know WayV and NCT Wish.

-WayV and NCT Wish just seem like Korean groups to me...ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

BoA, who debuts on February 21, takes on the producing role for NCT Wish, expanding her activities as a producer based on the expertise and insight she has accumulated as a pioneering figure in K-pop globalization, leading the way in the international scene with her sensibility, insight, and personality. She is expected to dive into full-fledged producing based on her own sense and uniqueness, leading the activities and growth of the members.

Debuting at the age of just 13 in 2000, BoA, who celebrates her 24th anniversary this year, is a leading figure in K-pop who pioneered the Hallyu Wave across Asia, particularly in Korea and Japan. She made history as the first Korean singer to enter the main chart of the U.S. Billboard, the 'Billboard 200,' paving the way for the globalization of Korean music.

In particular, in 2001, BoA entered Japan, the world's second-largest music market, as part of SM's localization strategy. She became the first Korean singer to top the Oricon chart and record sales of over a million copies, and in 2004, she attended the 'MTV Asia Awards' as a joint representative of Korea and Japan, winning the 'Influential Asian Artist' award. She has continuously appeared on NHK's year-end music festival, 'Kohaku Uta Gassen,' for six consecutive years, cementing her position as a top artist in Asia.

Furthermore, BoA showcased her first self-composed activity with the title track "Only One" from her 7th album, and with her 8th album, "Kiss My Lips," for which she personally took charge of all songwriting, composition, and producing, she won the Best Album Award at the 25th High1 Seoul Music Awards, earning recognition for her exceptional musicality. In 2021, she participated in producing S.E.S.'s hit song "Dreams Come True" through a remastering project by aespa, actively participating in music, choreography, and visuals.

Therefore, BoA's move as the producer of NCT Wish, who will debut simultaneously in Korea and Japan and engage in global activities, holds deeper significance. As someone who accompanied the birth of NCT Wish through the reality show "NCT Universe: LASTART" and can provide direction based on successful experiences in Korea and Japan, she is the one-of-a-kind artist.

BoA is also overseeing the entire production process of NCT Wish's debut single "Wish," including music, performance, and album production. With plans to continue leading the activities and growth of the members as the producer of NCT Wish, expectations are high for the synergy between NCT Wish and BoA.

Combining SM's 30-year heritage and infrastructure with producer BoA's producing, NCT Wish, which will write a new chapter in K-pop in 2024, will debut at Tokyo Dome on February 21.
