From the late Oh Yoanna's colleague, Geum Chaerim, to seniors Lee Hyunseung, Kim Gayoung, and Choi Ahri, all MBC freelance weathercasters have left MBC as their contracts expired.
On the 8th, Geum Chaerim wrote on her social media, "Last Friday (the 6th), I delivered my last weather forecast as a weathercaster. During my 5 years at MBC, I was always happy and excited to share the weather in front of the camera. I have no regrets because I did my best in every broadcast. However, I'm honestly sad and heavy-hearted at the thought of losing a job and work I loved."
Not only Geum Chaerim, but Lee Hyunseung, Kim Gayoung, and Choi Ahri all finished their contracts with MBC. Except for Geum Chaerim, these three, along with A who resigned last year, were named as the alleged perpetrators of workplace bullying against Oh Yoanna. At the time of her death, a 17-page suicide note was found on her phone, containing accounts of the suffering she endured due to workplace bullying at MBC.
In particular, in a group chat involving A, Kim Gayoung, Choi Ahri, and Lee Hyunseung, it was discovered that they were bad mouthing the late Oh Yoanna, saying such thing as, "She's totally a crazy b*tch," "She smells," "What a freak," and "At least Yeonjin (from 'The Glory') was good at her job." The bereaved family claimed, "The real devils are Lee Hyunseung and Kim Gayoung," adding, "A and Choi Ahri bullied her openly, but Lee Hyunseung and Kim Gayoung bullied her secretly behind her back. Those two didn't even come to the funeral."
However, after a special investigation in May last year, MBC concluded they couldn't find enough evidence to identify three of the four named individuals as perpetrators and only terminated A's contract.
Especially, in September last year, MBC announced a plan to abolish the freelance weathercaster system despite opposition from the bereaved family. As a result, the weathercaster system was abolished after 31 years, and instead of renewing contracts with the existing weathercasters, MBC hired new full-time 'weather and climate experts.'
Meanwhile, Oh Yoanna's family is continuing a lawsuit against A, seeking 510 million KRW in damages.
