The only Korean queer movie to have surpassed 10 million viewers as of 2024

 

Lee Joon-ik's 'The King and The Clown'

It even features a kiss scene between Jung Jinyoung and Lee Joonki

Besides, Jang Saeng and Gong Gil are clearly lovers in the movie. It's definitely a queer movie.

At the time of its release, Lee Joonki's popularity was unparalleled. This movie sparked a trend of 're-watching' a movie. Moreover, this movie achieved this milestone without monopolizing theater screens. Overall, this is a really amazing movie.

Director Lee Joon-ik, who gained recognition with the comedy 'Once Upon a Time in the Battlefield,' became a master filmmaker with this movie. Most of his next works, especially historical dramas or period dramas like 'The Throne,' 'Anarchist from Colony,' 'Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet,' and 'The Book of Fish' were considered masterpieces and highly praised. However, aside from 'Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet', his legendary movie 'The King and The Clown' always remains at the top of his filmography.

To this day, it is the only Korean queer movie to have surpassed 10 M viewers... And it's also truly one of my all-time favorite movies.

-This is also the first movie I have ever re-watched multiple times. And I still enjoy each time I watch it. 

-It's truly a 'legend of legends.' This movie is amazing in so many ways.

-But I didn’t even realize it was queer when I watched it as a kidㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Even when they kissed, I was just like, 'Oh, okay.' F*ckㅋㅋㅋㅋ I wonder why.

-I enjoyed watching this movie too, but I don't think I understood the story well back then because I was so youngㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ I should watch it again tomorrow after such a long time.

-For real, this movie hit 10 M viewers just from word of mouth.

-It was the first and last movie in my life that I watched multiple times in the theater.

(I watched the full video and she said she has not undergone surgery but is undergoing hormone therapy. She mentioned leaving the option for surgery open but didn't say she would definitely do it)

Gender identity: Non-binary (neither male or female)

Sexual attraction: Attracted to both men and women, identifying as pansexual.
