Director Lee Joon-ik, who gained recognition with the comedy 'Once Upon a Time in the Battlefield,' became a master filmmaker with this movie. Most of his next works, especially historical dramas or period dramas like 'The Throne,' 'Anarchist from Colony,' 'Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet,' and 'The Book of Fish' were considered masterpieces and highly praised. However, aside from 'Dongju: The Portrait of a Poet', his legendary movie 'The King and The Clown' always remains at the top of his filmography.
To this day, it is the only Korean queer movie to have surpassed 10 M viewers... And it's also truly one of my all-time favorite movies.
