The K-pop market is changing ... Will NewJeans be able to return?

https://m.entertain.naver.com/now/article/469/0000888280

Six months. It's already been half a year since NewJeans' official activities came to a halt. Counting from their last release, they have been in a hiatus for about 1 year and 3 months. As the dispute over their exclusive contract with ADOR drags on, the group's absence shows no sign of ending anytime soon.

When NewJeans debuted back in 2022, no one could've predicted such a long hiatus. This was because their debut song, 'Attention,' became a big phenomenon, instantly sending them into stardom. They continued to shake the K-pop market as every song they released became a hit, including 'Hype Boy,' 'Cookie,' 'Ditto,' 'OMG,' 'Super Shy,' 'ETA,' 'Cool With You,' 'Get Up,' and 'New Jeans.' They instantly claimed their position as a top girl group, not only in the 4th Gen scene, but across the entire K-pop industry.

The momentum seemed to face a red light in April of last year. As the tension between Min Heejin and HYBE surfaced, NewJeans' activities also faced an unexpected obstacle. The conflict was more intense than expected. As both sides failed to resolve their differences, the conflict ultimately escalated into a legal battle.

What started as a management dispute inevitable sent a direct blow to NewJeans. The group, known as 'Min Heejin's daughters' since their debut, sided with Min Heejin and demanded the termination of their exclusive contract with ADOR. In November, they declared contract termination due to 'breach of trust' and attempted to move independently. Despite ADOR's multiple attempts to reach an agreement, the members drew a line, stating they had no intention of returning. They began by creating separate social media accounts and managing their schedules without ADOR's management. They even prepared for overseas performances and even announced a comeback under a new stage name (NJZ).

However, this plan didn't go as planned. In March, the court granted ADOR's request for an injunction prohibiting NewJeans from signing advertising contracts and other activities independently. At the time, all five members of NewJeans attended the hearing. They argued that ADOR had been treating them unfairly. However, the court sided with ADOR, stating, "ADOR has fulfilled most of their important obligations under the exclusive contract."

In response, NewJeans filed two appeals, both of which were dismissed. Since ADOR's injunction not only prohibit their advertising activities, but also all music-related activities, the court's decision left NewJeans' career completely paralyzed. Despite this, NewJeans firmly refused to return to ADOR and instead declared an 'temporary halt of activities.'

As their hiatus drags on, the question now isn't just 'Will they return?'but 'Will they be able to come back to the K-pop market with the same impact they once had?'. During their absence, the K-pop girl group market has completely shifted. 4th Gen groups that once trailed behind NeJeans have long since grown into top-tier groups both domestically and internationally. Meanwhile, 5th Gen girl groups are also rapidly expanding their presence.

The dispersion of their fandom in this fast-changing K-pop market is also a significant factor. While many groups have filled the void left by NewJeans, the fandom is now quite divided, especially after the court granted the injunction. While the group's fanbase still eagerly wait for their return, it remains uncertain whether this level of support will be maintained even after a legal battle that could last several years. Industry insiders mostly believe that NewJeans' chances of returning to ADOR is impossible, leaving their postponed comeback as nothing more than source of regret.

-I think their golden time has already passed.

-There are people who are still looking for them. I think they'll probably do well if they came back again.

-How did it all end up like this...?

-What a waste of time... They're only in their early 20s and already in a hiatus.

-They were such a sensational group back then... I think if they make a comeback, a lot of people would still listen.

-They'd definitely create a buzz if they make a comeback. But the real question here is whether they can make a comeback or not.

-It's the path that they chose on their own.

-I will always be waiting for them.

-I'm sure they'll figure it out on their own.

-They could just pay the penalty fee and resume their activities, no...?

-I used to be their fan and genuinely hoped thins would work out... But now I've lost all my feelings for them.

-They're always welcome to make a comeback. I'm waiting.

-I hope they would make a comeback. They're just young girls who got used. They're the biggest victims here.

-I don't think they'll come back without Min Heejin.

-It doesn't look easy, though.

Does Rom&nd's lip tint really cause chelitis? ... Company responds: "We're developing new product to remove the cause"

https://www.1conomynews.co.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=43216

Consumers have been reporting chapped lips and cheilitis after using Rom&nd's The Juicy Lasting Tint. Although the ingredient causing the problem hasn't been clearly identified, the company has acknowledged the controversy and revealed that they are developing a product that addresses the issue.

According to a confirmation from Rom&nd on the 4th, complaints of cheilitis symptoms from customers who used Rom&nd's The Juicy Lasting Tint have increased since last June. Rom&nd stated that they are taking steps to recall the products and issue refunds to some customers.

However, it has been confirmed that The Juicy Lasting Tint is still being sold through CJ Olive Young and other retailers.

Recently, online communities have been flooded with posts written by people who experienced various side effects after using The Juicy Lasting Tint. Reported symptoms include peeling, rashes, swelling, and other allergic reactions on the lips.

A post on an online community said, "When I apply the tint, it stings as if I'm rubbing my lips with a strong alcohol pad. I only realized it after my lips cracked."

In relation to this, some speculate that the ingredient 'Red No. 202' used in Rom&nd's products is the main cause.

According to the Korea Consumer Agency's safety survey on lip products, Red No. 202 can cause allergic reactions on the lips, with symptoms including peeling, rashes, and blisters along the border of the lips and skin.

However, other ingredients may also be the cause. In fact, lip products from other companies also contain Red No. 202 but haven't faced similar controversy.

One consumer, identified as A, stated, "My lips are fine as long as I avoid Red No. 202, but I get cheilitis even from Rom&nd's products that don't contain Red No. 202. I really want to know what the cause is."

...

Rom&nd explained that after discussing the issue with the manufacturer's researchers involved in the new product development, volatile ingredients were identified as a possible cause. The company also announced that they plan to release a reformulated version with modified ingredients in January next year.

theqoo

-For me, it's Periperaㅠㅠ Whenever I use any lip products from Peripera, my lips feel so dry and I always end up with cheilitis...

-So the redness and stinging on my lips was caused by that lip tint... It happens with lip tints from other companies too... How do I avoid this?? My lips completely break out sometimes.

-I have never had dry lips in my entire life, but after I started using that lip tint, they got so dry and no matter what I did, even with lip balm, it became even drier and sore. At first, I didn't know what caused it, but after realizing it was because of that lip tint, I threw it away.

-I really wanted to try Rom&nd's products, though... I guess I'll just buy it when the new product comes out.

-Oh Gosh... I literally just got home from buying one of those;;

-Peripera and Clio's lip products do that to me... Peripera is really bad.

-Hul... I got cheilitis right after using exactly that lip tint. Crazy. So it was because of that.

-There are a lot of lip products that contain Red No. 202... I think the problem is with the formulation or some other ingredients...

-What the heck?? I just applied it on my lips;;

-My lips are totally fine, though...

-Wasn't it fine a few years ago?

-Even if your lips are fine after using that lip tint, don't keep using it. Once you get chelitis, it won't go away easily. It sticks around.

-I got cheilitis too... It has been 3 months and it still hasn't f*cking healed... And I only use Rom&nd's lip products.

-As soon as I put it on I was like 'What is this'?ㅠㅠ It feels tingly on my lips.

-My lips got messed up too, I didn't know this was the cause.

LNGSHOT, boy group produced by Jay Park, reveals their members' faces

theqoo

-Hip-hop isn’t cool

-The first revealed picture is of them flipping their middle fingers...

-Whoa... How can they piss people off right from the start?

-All female idols these days are gorgeous but male idols use 'Hip hop' as an excuse for being unattractive.

-I came to see their faces but ended up getting flipped off.

-Why are you flipping me off...ㅠㅠ

-Uh... This is not the idol vibe that we're used to...

-Why are you already mad at me... It's my first time seeing you guys...

-Looks like a picture of bunch of Iljins.

-Honestly, they could just go as a hip-hop group... They don't necessarily have to be idols.

-Did I do something wrong?( •᷄‎ࡇ•᷅ )

-Uh... What are they doing...?

-That's so rude.

-If their song blows up, I think they could make it.

-That's so cringeㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Moon Gayoung sparks controversy with lingerie-inspired airport look ... Is she a lingerie model?

https://m.news.nate.com/view/20250920n01840?mid=e01

On the 17th, Moon Gayoung showed up at the airport on her way to an overseas event wearing an oversized jumper over a lace slip dress and completed her chic airport look with a black mini bag along with logo earrings. The sheer material of her dress sparked mixed reactions.

Her overly revealing dress was criticized for disrupting the overall tone of the outfit, especially compared to her casual outerwear. What drew attention was that the dress she wore is categorized and sold as 'underwear' on the brand's official website.

She seems to be toning down the exposure of her dress with the jumper, aiming for a 'chic balance.' However, the striking presence of the dress resulted in an impression of 'someone who threw a jumper over their underwear,' rather than an 'effortlessly chic' look. The public seems to have grown tired of overly revealing fashion as they reacted with comments like, 'I thought it looked like pajamas. Turns out it actually is,' 'How do you walk around outside wearing underwear?' and 'If this is the world of fashion, I'll never understand it.'

This is not the first time Moon Gayoung shown her interest in lingerie looks. She previously was seen wearing a full-body see-through outfit that showed her underwear, sheer dress that looked like a lingerie, and a completely see-through lace corset dress. The locations may change, but she has consistently been wearing lingerie and revealing outfits. This recent airport look prompts her old pictures to resurface once again.

She can certainly make her presence stand out without relying on revealing outfits. Given her sophisticated aura, perhaps she could set aside her 'lingerie' concept and instead showcase her own unique charm.

theqoo

-Ah... That's obviously underwear. Tsk tsk. That doesn't look good.

-I love Moon Gayoung, but she doesn't suit revealing clothesㅠㅠ She looks way prettier when she dresses modestly. It's a shame. It seems like even when she gets attention for her revealing outfits, it just leaves her with negative articles and imageㅠㅠ

-People who say that she suits these looks are even worse.

-Is being pretty all that matters? Does that make it okay for you to walk around in public wearing underwear? If you think that's okay, then you guys should go walk around outside in your underwear too.

-How is this any different from wearing bathrobe to the convenience store?

-Clothes you wear at home should stay at home.

-Maybe she's wearing that because it's sponsored??

-Isn't that an underwear??? Why would you wear that outside?;;

-The issue here is not the skin exposure itself... It's that she literally came out wearing underwear...

-Judging by the hate comments, I thought she was just wearing a bra or something.

-Going to the airport in underwear is harmful.

-I'm genuinely curious... When she goes through airport security, does she take off her outerwear and pass through in that dress? That would be so embarrassing.

-It just looks like a dress to me... Why is the reaction so negative?

-What's the big deal? It's not like she's hurting anyone. It's no different than wearing hair rollers in public.

-Attention seeker.

Ha Jungwoo and Gong Hyojin offered no apology despite being 14 minutes late

https://naver.me/5wNXpZBv

Ha Jungwoo, Gong Hyojin, and Kim Dongwook from the movie 'The People Upstairs' met with audiences in Busan. Through the talkshow event, they shared stores about the movie, which is scheduled to be released at the end of this year. The disappointing part was that despite being almost 15 minutes late and making the audience wait, the actors did not offer any single proper apology.

On the morning of the 19th at 11 AM, the talkshow event for the movie 'The People Upstairs' was held at the outdoor stage of the Busan Cinema Center in Haeundae-gu, Busan. Director and producer Ha Jungwoo was joined by main stars Gong Hyojin and Kim Dongwook. The event was also being broadcasted live.

'The People Upstairs' was officially invited to the 'Korean Cinema Today - Special Premiere' section. The movie tells an unpredictable story that unfolds when a couple living upstairs (Ha Jungwoo and Lee Honey) and a couple living downstairs (Gong Hyojin and Kim Dongwook) end up having dinner together after being brought together by the unusual noises between floors every night. Ha Jungwoo both directed and starred in this movie, following his previous works, 'Rollercoaster,' 'Chronicle of a Blood Merchant,' and 'Lobby.'

The appearance of these nationally beloved actors drew significant attention. The host went on stage first to greet the audience and announced that the actors would be late due to traffic congestion in Busan. They eventually arrived on stage at 11:14 AM, 14 minutes later than the scheduled time.

The area around the Busan Cinema Center in U-dong, Haeundae-gu, often experiences heavy traffic, especially when film festival events are held. It is also true that the traffic congestion that day was worse than usual due to other measures. Given that the actors had to move according to their schedules, it is not difficult to understand why they were late.

What disappointed the audience was that the actors began the talkshow without a single word of apology. They greeted the audience by commenting on the great weather in Busan and their thoughts on attending the film festival, but they did not apology to the audience for making them wait for nearly 15 minutes.

Although it was a cloudy day without direct sunlight, Ha Jungwoo and Gong Hyojin wore sunglasses on stage. While sunglasses are a widely accepted fashion accessory, it was a bit disappointing for fans who had come specifically to see the actors' faces. While Gong Hyojin briefly took her sunglasses off and made eye contact with the audience, Ha Jungwoo kept his on the entire time.

theqoo

-Is it really that hard to say 'Sorry'?

-They still haven't changed at allㅋㅋㅋ

-It's common basic manner to apologize when you're late and take off your sunglasses at an indoor event. How would you feel if hundreds of people in the audience wore sunglasses? They're so arrogant, especially when they're there to promote their movie. Neither of them can even attract audiences or ratings anymore, let's just use younger actors from now on. I looked it up and found that Ha Jungwoo is the director. Is he seriously acting like that at an event for his own movie?ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Looks like the reporters were pissed off.

-How shameless..

-Did they drink the night before?ㅋㅋ

-ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ Why is this lowkey funny?

-Get it together, you two...

-I'm not even surprised at all... They look like the people who would do something like that.

-I'm not surprised at all.

-Why are they wearing sunglasses?

-Whoa... They have no manners.

-That's seriously so rude.

-Being late is indeed wrong. But is 14 minutes late that big of a deal that you have to write an article about it?

-Why on earth did they not apologize??

An upcoming drama reportedly used AI for their moving poster

⬇️ These are the actual posters. It seems like the in-between parts were made using AI.

The transition actually looks natural, but the face definitely looks AI-generated in some parts.

The drama actually has a separate moving poster, it seems like they made an AI-generated version too.

theqoo

-These days, broadcasting companies are actively encouraging the use of AI. I think we'll see more of this a lot in the future... Since AI is still quite new, there's bound to be some awkwardness in it.

-The face doesn't even look like Junho's in some parts. It looks unnaturalㅠ

-But why? I'm not against AI, but why...? Why for this purpose? It's not even like the drama is starred by AI actors, so why?

-I mean... AI is usually used when you can't hire a real model. But they already spent their money to cast actors, so why use AI in the first place...?

-Isn't this something that they could've just filmed normally?ㅋㅋㅋ

-I wonder if they're using AI to cut down production costs?

-This is so unsettling... At this point, they're gonna film whole dramas with AI actors now that the technology is out there.

-Then why hire actors in the first place? Why not just have AI make the entire drama?

-How is this any different from deepfake..? (I'm genuinely asking)

-Honestly, I think this is unnecessary. Why do something using AI when the actor can do it normally??

-Ugh... I hate this so much.

-Since every country is using AI in some way, I don't think this attempt is bad.

-Is it wrong to use AI? Why is the reaction so negative...? I don't get it.

-It's so obvious that they're using AI.

-It would've been better if the actor just filmed it normally. I mean... You can do all of that with editing. Sure, it takes more effort to do it normally, but still...

-I'm not against AI, but was this even necessary...? It's not even particularly good anyway;
