Ryu Junyeol Criticized After Spotted With a Calf Leather Bag

Controversy has arisen over the bag Ryu Junyeol carried at the event. The bag in question is made of calf leather.

As a Greenpeace ambassador, Ryu Junyeol has actively raised awareness about environmental issues, from conducting interviews on environmental topics to participating in campaigns. Given his vocal advocacy on these matters, the use of a calf skin bag in Ryu Junyeol's attire has drawn attention and sparked controversy.

Ryu Junyeol admitted in an interview in January this year that he is a golf enthusiast. Golf is often seen as a symbol of land degradation due to the significant consumption of water and energy in golf course construction and maintenance.

This has led to questioning the discrepancy between Ryu Junyeol's role as a Greenpeace ambassador and his current actions.

Calf Skin: Leather from calves less than 6 months old.

-Regardless of the controversy, it terrifies me to think that bag was made from calves under 6 months oldㅠㅠㅠ

-Disgusting... Leather from calves under 6 months old. I'm sure those calves didn't die from natural causes.

-That's insane...? Why would he do that?? What kind of mindset does Greenpeace have to use such a person as their ambassador?

-Poor calves...

-Even if those calves died from natural causes, it just feels so wrong to carry around a bag made of calves under 6 months old. If I were him, I wouldn't be able to even touch it. That brand must be insane.

-But doesn't he have to carry it around because it was sponsored? Celebrities probably don't check each and every material of the products they receive for sponsorshipㅋㅋㅋI'm not a fan of Ryu Junyeol, but this is crossing the lines. Shouldn't we be criticizing the brand instead?

-It's usual for male calves raised for dairy to be slaughtered at 4 to 5 months old, since they have no economic value (It's just like chicks being killed as soon as they hatch). It's understandable that Ryu Junyeol would be criticized for wearing such a product, but the issue of calf slaughter won't be resolved unless the meat-eating or dairy processing industries themselves disappear

-He gets paid to do this, so couldn't he just refuse if he wanted to?

-It's the brand's fault. It's not like they can just ask him, 'Sir, this bag is made from a one-year-old calf leather, would you carry it?'ㅋㅋㅋ

-The brand is the problem here. I don't think the model knew or cared about the material being used.

-Ryu Junyeol is not a rookie actor, so wouldn't he have a say in choosing the products while participating in the brand's events? If he's an ambassador for Greenpeace, it seems understandable that there would be disappointment in him wearing that product.
