NewJeans becomes the first K-pop girl group to take the stage at Gyeongbokgung Palace's Geunjeongjeon Hall.
As part of the '2024 Korea On Stage - New Generation' event, organized by the Cultural Heritage Administration and sponsored by the National Heritage Promotion Institute and KBS Korean Broadcasting, a special stage will be held in front of Heungnyemun Gate at Gyeongbokgung Palace on the 21st. Recently, NewJeans completed a special stage pre-recording at Geunjeongjeon Hall.
Geunjeongjeon Hall is a significant royal palace building where major state ceremonies were held during the Joseon Dynasty and is currently designated as a national treasure. It is rare for a public performance to take place in the area since the opening of Gyeongbokgung Palace in 1954, making the decision to open Geunjeongjeon Hall for NewJeans, a leading force in K-pop, particularly noteworthy.
NewJeans, as the first K-pop girl group to perform a special stage at Geunjeongjeon Hall, is scheduled to present a unique performance of "Cool With You" on that day.
In particular, they showcased Korean beauty through specially designed hanbok costumes, including unique dan-sam jeogori (short jacket), sran-chima (wrap skirt), and dae-ran chima (long skirt) reinterpreted for this stage, along with traditional-style shoes and goddess-inspired hair accessories. Additionally, they incorporated a fantastic performance that illuminates the night scenery of Geunjeongjeon Hall, aiming to convey both the greatness of national heritage and the prominence of K-pop simultaneously.
NewJeans expressed, "It's truly an honor to perform on the stage of Gyeongbokgung Palace's Geunjeongjeon, a precious heritage of our country. It feels like it will be a memory that lasts a long time. Through this opportunity, we hope that many people will take an interest in our national heritage."
KBS stated, "NewJeans' special stage at Geunjeongjeon is not only an opportunity to introduce the beauty and value of our national heritage but also expected to be a catalyst for promoting Korean culture worldwide in the future."
