BIGBANG's G-Dragon has issued a formal apology, bowing his head in response to the racism controversy sparked by an outfit he wore during an overseas performance.
On the 4th, his agency Galaxy Corporation released an official statement saying, "We sincerely apologize for the fact that the artist's stage outfit at the K-SPARK event held in Macau on the 2nd contained text that was inappropriate in its social and cultural context."
They added, "Through this incident, we have once again deeply realized the importance of cultural sensitivity and responsible prior review. We will strengthen our internal verification procedures, including styling, and operate under more careful standards."
The agency emphasized again, "We will approach all of the artist's future activities with a greater care and responsibility to respect diverse cultural backgrounds and values."
Previously, G-Dragon faced criticism from global fans after appearing on stage wearing a T-shirt featuring a Dutch phrase that carries a derogatory meaning toward Black people.
Meanwhile, G-Dragon recently drew attention by performing with BIGBANG at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival last month, and is preparing for his 20th debut anniversary tour this August. This marks his first concert tour in nine years since 2017.
