'Is being smart all that matters?' ... Seoul National University rejects two applicants with school violence records

Last year, six of major national universities in South Korea rejected a total of 45 applicants who had records of school violence.

According to data submitted by 10 major national universities to Rep. Kang Kyungsook on November 2, these universities failed 45 applicants in the admissions process in 2024. 37 of them were rejected in early admission 8 in regular admission. These universities applied penalty points to applicants with records of school violence, resulting in disqualification.

Kyungpook National University had the highest number of rejected applicants, with total of 22 students, 19 in early admission and 3 in regular admissions. This was followed by Busan National University with 8 rejections, Kangwon National University with 5 rejections, Gyeongsang National University with 3 students, and Seoul National University with 2 students.

On the other hand, Jeonnam National University, Jeju National University, Chungnam National University, and Chungbuk National University, did not apply the penalty system last year, resulting in no rejections based on such records.

Starting with the 2025 school year admissions, all universities in South Korea will be required to consider records of school violence in their evaluations. This change is expected to make college admissions significantly more difficult for applicants with records of school violence.

Disciplinary measures for school violence range from level 1 (written apology), level 2 (ban on contacting the victim), level 3 (in-school community service), level 4 (community service outside school), level 5 (special education), level 6 (suspension from school), level 7 (class transfers), and level 9 (expulsion). Each university can determine how many points to take off based on the severity of the disciplinary action.

The agency added, "Through our legal representatives, we have submitted evidence of the damage and filed a lawsuit with the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul against the individual responsible for posting and spreading false claims. At the time, the agency immediately denied the claims, calling them 'completely groundless.' The individual who wrote the post apologized just one day later, explaining that "It started as a joke, I used AI-Generated images," bringing the controversy to an end.

'Sixth Sense' PD accused of sexual assault ... 'Fights back' submits video evidence of false accusation'

'Sixth Sense: City Tour 2' PD has been sued for sexual assault, but he is strongly denying the allegations, saying that the accusation is completely false.

On October 31, reports surfaced that a famous variety show PD, identified as A, had been accused of sexual assault. B, a person who worked on the show's new season with A, filed a complaint at the Mapo Police Station in Seoul in August. B reportedly provided a statement and submitted evidence materials including CCTV footage.

According to reports, B stated that A made unwanted physical contact after a company dinner. When she resisted, A verbally insulted her and unilaterally removed her from the show she was working on. B claimed she had been involved in the project since the early planning stages, including casting, production, and pre-filming. However, she was dismissed about 2 months before the show aired.

Besides the sexual assault complaint, B also reported sexual harassment and workplace harassment to the company. However, the company's internal investigations reportedly only agreed with some parts of the sexual assault claim against A but found no proof of workplace harassment. However A denied all allegations and both sides have since filed appeals against the result of the internal investigation.

Meanwhile, B’s lawyer, Attorney Lee Eunui, issued an official statement revealing that A is the PD of tvN’s variety show 'Sixth Sense: City Tour 2.' According to the statement, “The sexual assault happened near the company building, right after the 2nd round of a company dinner, while people were leaving. The dinner was on August 14th, and the second round ended after midnight, around 12:30 AM to 12:40 AM. At about 12:40 AM, most people from the 2nd dinner were standing outside to go to a 3rd place, when A approached the victim and suddenly rubbed her arm and neck."

The lawyer continued, "To get away from the touching, the victim put her arm around A's shoulder to make him drop his hand from her neck, then she moved away and tried to call a taxi. But A came back again, pressing his forehead against hers. The victim quickly said her taxi had arrived and left. A followed her for a moment, but then stopped, and went to the next dinner location."

The statement aded, "Five days after the sexual assault, on the morning of August 20, the victim received a message from A notifying her of her dismissal from the show. The two had their first argument during a location scouting trip on August 18, which A used as the reason to dismiss her."

The lawyer further stated, “On August 26, the victim submitted a written complaint to the police and cooperated with their investigation. But the problems that happened to the victim after August 15th were more than just the sexual assault, so she reported it to the company and requested action. After being dismissed, she appealed to senior executives about the unfair dismissal, but she did not mention about the sexual assault. This was because of shock and fear, but mostly because the victim didn't want people to think that she was using the sexual assault to get back at A for the unfair dismissal. When the company didn't take any actions, the victim had no choice but to officially report al the issues with both the company and police."

However, A's lawyer, Attorney Lee Kyungjun, issued an official statement to fight back against these claims. According to A's side, "B had already been reassigned to a different team because junior colleagues, co-workers, seniors, and even external staff had all expressed difficulties working with B. During the show's production, B’s behavior and remarks repeatedly caused conflict within the team, to the point that an important staff stopped talking to B completely and even refused to look at her in the eye, resulting in a complete communication breakdown.”

The statement continued, "A made every effort to fix the situation and keep the project on track, but even his attempts to talk things out ended in arguments. Because of this, the management decided to move her to a different team."

As the head producer of the show, A informed B of the reassignment, but B strongly fought against the decision with A's superiors. A's side claims that when B's objections were rejected, she started attacking him with false reports filled with lies. A's side claims, "It is completely untrue that A made sexually inappropriate physical contact with B or verbally insulted her after she resisted. At the time of the alleged incident, during a company dinner attended by over 160 people, A and B were only seen making brief contact like patting shoulders or putting an arm around a shoulder on the street with many passersby and co-workers present. This level of contact cannot be described as sexual. Moreover, B herself also made casual physical contact with A, such as touching his shoulder, as she often did."

The lawyer further claimed, "We have obtained and given to the police video evidence showing B touching A’s shoulder while he was sitting still and another where B walked up behind A and tried to wrap her arm around his shoulder while he was walking ahead. The second video was even taken on August 18, four days after the dinner."

The lawyer also questioned, "When B filed her complaint on August 26, she couldn't even clearly state which touch she considered unwanted. She only gave a vague and inconsistent statement. 'I haven't decided whether to file a formal lawsuit yet, but I do not intend to drop the charges.'"

The statement added, "Colleagues who know A's character are standing together to prove he is innocent of a false accusation. A strongly denies all allegations of sexual assault. The company is currently conducting an extra investigation, and he police have not even begun their first questioning of A. In this situation, it is totally unacceptable and unforgivable to use the media to destroy the reputation and character of an innocent person like A."

The lawyer concluded, "We want the police to conduct a thorough and strict investigation. At the same time, we hope there won't be a public fight over the truth in the media before the police have even started their first interview or made a decision. We will answer everything through the police investigation, and A's innocence will be clearly proven in that process. We sincerely ask everyone to refrain from spreading false information that could damage A’s honor and reputation."

Police receives complaint of sexual assault against famous variety show PD ... PD's side claims, "False report"

Police have received a formal complaint accusing a famous variety show PD of sexual assault and have begun an initial investigation.

According to the person who filed the complaint and police sources on November 3, the Seoul Mapo Police Station received this complaint against PD A in August.

The complaint alleges that in the early morning of August 15, PD A made unwanted physical contact with B, who was involved in the production of a new variety show.

B's lawyer, stated, "5 days after the incident, the victim was told by the harasser that she was removed from the show. The first argument between the two happened during the location scouting for the final episode of the show. PD A used that argument as an excuse for her dismissal."

In response, PD A's lawyer argued, "The claim that A made physical contact in a sexually suggestive or inappropriate way is completely false. The only physical contact that happened was at the end of the staff dinner, where A merely patted B on the shoulder and briefly putting an arm around her shoulder. This happened in a public area with many colleagues present."

He added, "This issue is not about gender. It is a battle between truth and lies. Falsely reporting an innocent person is a crime that can destroy a person's life and family."

Go Minsi breaks silence on 'school bullying accusations' ... Returns on Instagram 3 months after dropping out of a drama

Go Minsi, who has been dealing with school bullying accusations, uploaded a post on Instagram after about 3 months of silence.

Early on the 3rd, Go Minsi posted a photo of a flower pot on her Instagram without any caption. It was her first post since August 30.

Previously, on August 30, Go Minsi had released a statement, saying, "I don't know how many times a day I managed to hold onto my violently shaking feelings, swallow them, and endure them as I wait for the investigation results for several months. I’ve decided it’s only right to speak up for those waiting to hear from me."

She explained, "I am well aware that I was a student who acted immaturely and enjoyed breaking rules, and having a reckless school life during my school years. I have tried my best to live a better, more sincere life ever since, even if it's not perfect due to how much I regret my past."

However, she firmly denied the allegations, saying, "There is absolutely no reason I should have to bear false accusations because my past wasn’t perfect. I can guarantee that I was absolutely not involved in school violence. I’ve submitted all valid evidence proving that I am not the perpetrator, and the investigation is still ongoing."

She also showed her commitment to prove her innocence, saying, "Even if it takes a long time, I will never stop until the truth regarding the school violence accusation is revealed. I hope everyone realizes how cruel and horrible it is to make up stories, quickly conclude, and determine the truth, even after being clearly told they were lies."

Regarding the school bullying accusation against Go Min-si, which arose last May, her agency, Mystic Story (Mystic Actors), stated, "These claims are clearly false and entirely baseless. After confirming directly with the actress, we reaffirm that they are not true. We trust our artist completely."

Following the controversy, Go Minsi withdrew from the Netflix series 'Grand Galaxy Hotel' and was later replaced by Shin Si-ah. However, reports say she continued filming for another project, 'Perfect Job.'

Pakr Yoochun teams up with a 'drug friend' ... Returns to acting in a Japanese drama

Park Yoochun, who was expelled from the Korean entertainment industry after a drug scandal, is returning as an actor.

On November 1, a Japanese news outlet reported that Park Yoochun will star in the upcoming Tokyo MX drama 'The Greedy Girl and the Man with a Problem' which will air this December.

'The Greedy Girl and the Man with a Problem' is a three-episode romantic comedy about a man whose life is turned upside down after being accused of sexual harassment at his job and is demoted to become a caretaker of a share house.

This marks Park Yoochun’s return to Japanese television just three months after his appearance in Tokyo MX drama 'Momono Uta' this September.

This drama is drawing even more attention because former KAT-TUN member, Junnosuke Taguchi, is confirmed to play as the male lead. Taguchi was arrested in 2019 for possessing and smoking marijuana with his girlfriend at the time, Rena Komine. He received a 6-month prison sentence suspended for 2 years. He announced he would withdraw from the entertainment industry to accept his punishment, but was later spotted working at a host bar, stirring controversy. Meanwhle, Park Yoochun was arrested in April 2019 for purchasing and using Philopon with his then-girlfriend, Hwang Hana. He was sentenced to 10 months in prison, suspended for 2 years. When Hwang Hana first accused him of drug use, he held a press conference where he tearfully claimed, "I swear on my career that I did not use drugs," but then eventually admitted to the charges. Following his conviction, he was effectively banned from the Korean entertainment industry. However, he later retracted his retirement announcement and resumed activities mainly overseas, in countries like Thailand and Japan.

Former idol reveals: "Left the group after being assaulted → Lived in isolation for 2 years, lost 180 million KRW in debt from stock failure"

A former idol group member confessed that he is now in 180 million KRW debt due to stock and crypto investments as he made a guest appearance on the 339th episode of KBS Joy 'Ask Us Anything' on November 3.

The guest, once was the sub-vocalist of the group MASC, is now deep in debt after living in isolation and failing at investing. He shared that while preparing for their next album after their debut, he was verbally abused and physically assaulted by his own teammate over a misunderstanding that was caused by an umbrella.

He recalled the incident that led to his departure from the group, saying, "WhenI tried to talk to him to clear things up, he smashed the umbrella against the wall and hit my head and face."

Since then he lived in isolation, staying only at home for 1-2 years after the incident. During the electric vehicle stock boom, he initially invested his remaining 5 million KRW and doubled his money. However, he then took out loans at his parents' request and invested more, suffering loss after loss. Finally, he tried to invest his remaining money in trading crypto futures, but failed again. He revealed that his total losses and debt amount to 180 million KRW.

He explained that he currently earns money through Youtube live streaming, saying, "I pay back 4.65 million KRW every month, but I can still spend about 500,000 KRW on myself thanks to the few loyal viewers who donate."

He also honestly expressed his lingering attachment and strong desire to return to the stage. However, the hosts gave him practical advice. Seo Janghoon advised, "You're 27 now. Since you only have debt, you should cut down your streaming time and get a part-time job to change your habits." He suggested jobs that involve interacting with people, like working at a cafe or a clothing store.

Lee Soogeun added, "I think you only deserve to miss the stage if you're fully prepared to give the best performance whenever you get the chance. Don't just say you 'want to do something' when you have nothing. You need to work on your self-improvement."

The guest sang a song during the broadcast. While Seo Janghoon praised his vocal and skill, he advised that given his age and current situation, he cannot just wait for an opportunity. Seo Janghoon concluded by encouraging him, "As long as you don’t lose hope, you’ll succeed. I truly believe that"

'No Chinese' sign at a cafe in Seongsu-dong reflects the 'Portrait of Discrimination' in Korean society

"When Chinese customers come in, Korean customers next to them would say things like 'Here comes the Jjangkkae (a racial slur for Chinese), or 'So f*cking loud.' Most of my customers are Korean, so even though it means that I would earn less money, I chose not to allow Chinese customers to keep a comfortable atmosphere," said B, the 30-year-old owner of Cafe A in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, in an interview with Hankook Ilbo on the 28th of last month.

Cafe A, which opened near Seoul Forest in June last year, recently became the center of controversy after the owner put up a 'No Chinese Allowed' sign on the 21st of last month. This quickly spread across social media, dividing public opinion.

B explained that 'China hate' was not the reason behind the 'No Chinese' policy. He explained, "Maybe it's because the rising anti-China sentiment, Korean customers often frown or curse when Chinese customers are around. I didn't want that kind of atmosphere in my cafe. I decided that not serving Chinese customers would be the best way to protect my cafe's image."

However, he admitted that it's generally true that Chinese customers often display 'nuisance behavior.' B said, "They often leave their trash behind, talk loudly, and even walk into the drink preparation area to film." He added, "While some of these issues are something that I, as the cafe owner, should normally tolerate, I ultimately had to implement the 'No Chinese' rule to prevent discomfort among my customers who are mostly Korean."

B also added that as a father, he understood the reason why the anti-China sentiment is recently rising. He said, "After frequently hearing about criminal cases involving Chinese people, it's hard not to view them negatively." However, an official from the Seongdong-gu office visited the cafe tho persuade to owner to drop the 'No Chinese' policy shortly after it became a controversy. B stated, "Since public officials have stepped in and talked tome, I plan to cancel the policy soon."

The controversy over Cafe A's 'No Chinese' sign has temporarily ended. However, it is difficult to say that al the problems have been solved. Since Seongsu-dong is a rising 'hot spot' tourist destination in Seoul, the possibility of similar incidents recurring cannot be ruled out. We went to observe how many foreigners, including Chinese people, visit Seongsu-dong and heard their opinions on the 'No Chinese' policy. We also included expert analysis on the controversy.

Around noon that day, outside Exit 3 of Seongsu Station (Subway Line 2), was packed with foreign tourists, even though it was a weekday (Tuesday). Various pop-up stores selling perfumes, fashion, and bakery goods located on the streets nearby captured the attention of the tourists. Even though it's not a busy road area, so many people were trying to cross the intersection that police had to manage traffic. A police officer on site said, "We have been deployed to crowded areas since last week ahead of Halloween."

It was common to see dozens of tourists lined up at popular spots or shops for famous brands. For example, there were about 20 people sitting in the waiting area of a famous Gamjatang restaurant in Seongsu-dong, and roughly 70% or more of them were foreigners. Most of them were East Asian, including Chinese, but Western and Arab tourists were also often seen. Most of them appeared to be young people in their 20s and 30s, consisting mostly of individual travelers (couples/friends) rather than large tour groups.

The preference for Seongsu-dong among foreign tourists is also clear in statistics. According to an analysis of the Korea Tourism Organization's data from August this year, the number of foreign visitors to Seongsu-dong last year reached 3 million people. This means the number of visitors grew by 50 times compared to 2018. Additionally, data from the Seoul Metropolitan Governemtn shows that Seongsu Station was 13th in the ranking of the number of foreign passengers boarding and alighting the subway last year. This is a 70-rank jump from 83rd in 2017. It is against this backdrop that the controversy over Cafe A's 'No Chinese' policy occurred.

How do Seongsu-dong visitors view this situation? The Chinese visitors involved expressed strong displeasure. Zhang (30), a Chinese student who visits Seongsu-dong about once a month, said, "This became a big issue on Chinese social media as well. Although the cafe said they would drop the 'No Chinese' policy, I think it's too late. I understand the owner's perspective to some degree, but I will never go to that cafe again." Another Chinese traveler, B (24), said, "When I told my parents I was going to travel to Korea, they informed me about this news and were worried. I believe this counts as racial discrimination."

The reactions from non-Chinese tourists and Korean citizens in Seongsu-dong were mixed. For example, Jin (24) from Singapore initially stated, "It's not a problem because it's the owner's personal choice," but then added, "I think I can only say this because I'm not Chinese. Anti-China sentiment has rapidly increasing in Korean society to the point that I personally experienced discrimination for speaking Chinese in public places recently." Yoon Seul (25), a Korean citizen, criticized the action, saying, "Refusing entry to Chinese people is racial discrimination. I worry that it will damage the image of Korea." On the other hand, Park Jihong (24) supported the policy, saying, "If the cafe owner took such a step even at the risk of losing business, the damage caused by Chinese customers must have been huge."

The fact that some people support the 'No Chinese' policy proves that anti-China sentiment is already widespread in Korean society. A 2022 survey by an international research team found that a staggering 81% of Korean respondents reported having a 'negative' or 'very negative' view of China. This was the highest percentage among the 56 countries surveyed. Recently, posts that openly define Chinese people as targets of hate is also spreading on social media. A prime example is the 'No Chinese Zone Guidelines.'

Currently, there is no specific law that punishes businesses that prohibit entry to specific group, such as Chinese people. This is because the current legal system prioritizes the freedom to operate a business (Article 15 of the Constitution) and the principle of 'freedom of contract' in civil law. South Korea has not yet enacted a comprehensive anti-discrimination law that bans and punishes all types of discrimination based on gender, age, nationality, etc.

The only action that can be taken right now is a 'Recommendation for Correction' from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRCK). According to Article 2 of the Human Rights Commission Act, the NHRCK views the act of prohibiting entry to a public space based on a specific nationality, race, or skin color as 'racial discrimination' and 'discrimination without reasonable cause.' Previously, the NHRCK ruled that operating a 'No Kids Zone' (similar to the 'No Chinese' case) was 'child discrimination.' However, the limit is clear, the NHRCK can only recommend a correction, but they don't have the power to legally force the business to comply.

Experts unanimously agreed that the 'No Chinese' policy is clear discrimination. Professor Hong Sungsoo of Sookmyung Women's University stated, "In this case (the Cafe A controversy), it is difficult to see 'reasonable cause' for refusing an entire group of Chinese people. Currently, the idea that 'discrimination should not occur in the private sector' is only abstractly laid out in the Constitution. Most OECD countries have clear, written laws that ban racial discrimination. So we need to introduce an anti-discrimination law here as well." Professor Kim Yoontae of Korea University also criticized, "Prohibiting entry to Chinese people is a more serious problem than a 'No Kids Zone' from a universal human rights perspective. It is a clear deprivation of rights and discrimination based on xenophobia."

However, there are also calls for Chinese tourists to change their behavior. Professor Kim Namjo of Hanyang University suggested, "It would be wise for Korean public institutions to educate Chinese travelers beforehand so that they can show respect for South Korea." The point was that, separate from the discrimination issue, Chinese tourists should also try to observe the common manners and courtesy of the country they are visiting.

Hankook Ilbo

[+870][-31] There aren't many Chinese people like that in Singapore. Why do you think that is? It’s because there’s a general understanding that 'If you go to South Korea and don't follow public manners anywhere, you will be severely punished.' Once that perception spreads, such behavior naturally disappears.

Why don't you interfere with bathhouses, saunas, and hair salons that operate as 'women-only' or 'men-only'? Why don't you interfere with restaurants that use only domestic Korean kimchi or domestic ingredients?

Oh My Girl's Mimi: "I was left alone in the waiting room while the rest filmed an commercial in our early debut days"

Oh My Girl's Mimi shared about the struggles she faced at the beginning of her career as she appeared as a guest in the latest episode of TV Chosun 'Heo Youngman's Baekban Journey' that aired on November 2.

During the show, the host asked, "Did you not have any individual schedules in your early debut days?" Mimi replied, "That's right. I didn't have any individual schedules at all. I was like a dog that guarded the dorm."

She continued, "One day, we were filming a commercial. The other members looked like fairies, right? But I wasn't that style. My skin was darker and I had a bit of a boyish look. The group was supposed to film a cosmetic commercial, but because I didn't fit the concept, I was left alone n the waiting room."

Mimi admitted, "It was upsetting. I had tried everything before that. I even practiced in front of the mirror, trying to look more feminine, but it just didn't work. I felt a deep emptiness at the time."

She added, "But in the end, those who endure survive. Those who endure win. Life is about hanging in there."

Goo Hyesun, from actress to entrepreneur ... Launches hair roller 'KOOROLL' soon

On November 1, Goo Hyesun shared on her personal social media account, Preparing to launch KOOROLL,' and shared a photo of herself using the new product.

'KOOROLL' is a hair roll that Goo Hyesun, who is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Engineering at KAIST's Graduate School of Science Journalism, developed with Professor Lee Haeshin from KAIST's Chemistry Department.

Unlike traditional round hair rolls, this one is flat and rectangular, allowing users to bend and shape it to the size they want. It is also easy to carry because it is not bulky.

Goo Hyesun filed for the patent in July 2020 and officially registered it in December of the following year. Recently, she reportedly received confirmation as a preliminary venture company and is finalizing the launch roadmap with distributors.

[+380][-97] So this is why she was making a fuss about her hair on 'Radio Star.'

[+230][-35] It’s not like a hair roller has some amazing function or something. If you want something fancy, you can just use an Airwrap, curl your hair, take it out, and hold it in a roll. It basically does the same thing. She’s just slapping a brand name on an simple hair roller to increase the profit margin.

[+215][-68] What’s wrong with these comments??

[+53][-27] She's unique, so unique.

[+46][-2] …Can’t you just buy a hair roller for 1,000 KRW at Daiso?

'Grade 4 Physical Disability' Kim Heechul: "My height shrunk from 185cm to 176cm after car accident"

Kim Heechul confessed that his height decreased after he injured his femur in a car accident years ago in the 287th episode of KBS Joy's '20th Century Hit Song' with the theme of 'Singing Again: Artists who Overcame Pain.' The episode revisited iconic songs from legendary singers who returned to the stage after hardships.

During the show, the singers shared their struggles and recovery, and ranked them from 9th to 1st. Kim Heechul, who suffered a fractured femur in a car accident, empathized with Kim Kyungho who continued to perform despite severe pain from avascular necrosis of the femoral head. Heechul revealed, "My bone here completely collapsed, so I actually got shorter. I used to be around 185cm tall." His current height is known to be 176cm.

Due to the car accident in 2006, Kim Heechul suffered injuries to multiple body parts, including his left ankle, thigh, and hip bone. He underwent major surgery to insert seven metal pins and was later classified as having a Grade 4 physical disability.

He later recalled on his personal channel, "It was about 10 years ago. I was exempt from reserve duty, so I went to the hospital for a checkup, and they told me I might not be able to walk, and I shouldn't take long flights." He added, “When I went to get my disability grade, I was completely confused. After much thought, I just denied it all and went back home.”

[+580][-38] He’s not even 176cm. He once took off his shoes for a skit on Knowing Bros a while ago and he looked shorter than Park Misun. I'd say he's around 171cm. Stop lying.

Jo Byunggyu loses 4 billion KRW lawsuit against school bullying accuser ... Court: "Difficult to prove the claims are false"

Jo Byunggyu has lost the first trial in a multi-billion KRW damages lawsuit he filed against the person who accused him of school bullying.

According to legal sources on the 1st, the Seoul Central District Court’s Civil Division 37 ruled against Jo Byunggyu and his former agency, HB Ent., in the lawsuit seeking about 4 billion KRW in damages from the accuser, identified as A. The court denied all claims made by Jo Byunggyu's side and ordered them to pay all legal costs.

Jo Byunggyu's side had argued, "A damaged our reputation by posting false claims." They continued, "Because of this, we suffered 4 billion KRW in losses due to canceled endorsement contracts and lost roles in dramas, movies, and variety shows." They also demanded compensation, including 200 million KRW for emotional damages.

However, the court stated, "Based on the evidence submitted, it is difficult to conclude that the post contained false information." The court added, "There is nothing in the conversation records between A and acquaintances that acknowledge the claims were fabricated. It appears that A deleted the post not because the content was false, but out of fear of being sued or facing a massive lawsuit for damages."

The court added, "It's also possible that A deleted the post knowing that even sharing truthful facts can lead to punishment for defamation in South Korea."

Furthermore, the court also dismissed the written statements from about 20 of Jo Byungyu's acquaintances that were submitted as evidence, saying "They are all Jo Byunggyu's acquaintances in South Korea, making it difficult to verify the facts of an incident that allegedly happened in New Zealand." The court judged that it is hard to prove the claims were false based only on the statements of people who are acquainted with Jo Byunggyu.

The court concluded, “The material submitted by Jo Byunggyu makes it difficult to prove that the allegations in A's post were entirely unfounded," and dismissed Jo Byunggyu's claim.

Jo Byunggyu's side has appealed the first trial's ruling. Separately, the criminal defamation case filed by Jo Byunggyu against A was also dismissed by the prosecution.

Over 110,000 people gather in Hongdae, Itaewon station closed ... Halloween crowds return after 3 years

On the night of the 31st, Seoul’s major nightlife districts were packed with young people celebrating Halloween and Friday night.

In Hongdae, over 100,000 people gathered, leading to serious concerns about overcrowding. In Itaewon, the main alley, where the 2022 tragedy occurred, was completely closed off and subways skipped the station without stopping. There were several dangerous situations in various spots, but fortunately no major accidents occurred because of the police's strict crowd control.

According to Yonhap News, approximately 110,000 people were counted in the Hongdae tourist area between 9 PM and 11 PM. This means the crowd levels have returned to what they were before the Itaewon tragedy in 2022. Large LED screens on the streets displayed a red warning message that says 'Extremely crowded.'

Fortunately, the crowding eased as rain fell late at night, and the crowd eventually decreased to 88,000 people around midnight. An official from the Mapo-gu office said, "We expected a maximum of 100,000 people, but even more showed up."

The Hongdae club street and surrounding alleys were so full of young people, there was no room to place one's feet. Although police set up fences and encouraged one-way walking, people in costumes kept stopping in many places to take photos, causing the people behind them to surge forward repeatedly.

Safety officers repeatedly shouted, "Please keep walking, don't stop" Narrow alleys experienced bottlenecks and long lines to enter the clubs stretched long on both sides of the sidewalk, making the walking paths even narrower.

The situation in Itaewon was similar. Messages like 'Extremely crowded, please detour' were shown on electronic signs there as well. On the Global Food Street, people's shoulders constantly bumped into each other, and it took 10 minutes to walk just 300 meters.

At the alley behind the Hamilton Hotel, where the Itaewon tragedy in 2022 happened, the crowd built up, and entry was blocked starting around 10:20 PM. By 10:30 PM, the crowd was estimated at about 11,000 people. From 11:00 PM, Subway Line 6 skipped Itaewon Station in both directions. A police officer on site explained, "The station was closed because the crowd was too large and there was risk of accidents."

However, no major accidents occurred until 1 AM. In Itaewon, about 455 security personnel, including 250 police officers, were deployed and actively guided people to walk on the right side. Oh Hyuncheol (48), a delivery rider who works primarily in Itaewon, said, "During the tragedy, there were no police. It was a total chaos. But tonight, veryone was guided to the right, so it feels safer." One person reported ankle pain near Itaewon Station but was treated on-site by emergency staff.

The crowds continued to decrease starting around 11:30 PM as the night rain began. In Hongdae, the line to enter the subway station stretched over 50 meters. Some young people, who appeared to be drunk, were instead excited, shouting, "We don't want to go home!" as the night came to an end.

When asked if she wanted to keep her current weight after her promotions end, she said, "First, I'll keep it until November, and then I'll see what kind of body I want next." When asked what food she’s craving most, she answered, "I really want to eat pizza. I don't usually like flour-based food, but I want to fold a pizza in three layers and just gobble it down."

Hwasa also shared her diet, saying, "I ate pumpkin sweet potatoes (호밤고구마) instead of rice, along with eggs and chicken breast. I cooked the eggs with a steamer and ate them like baked eggs.” Hearing this, Yoo Inna commented, "You seem to know how to make anything taste delicious," and Hwasa replied, "You have to be happy when you eat."

G-Dragon sings 'POWER' in a traditional hat ... World leaders pull out their phones to take pictures

At the 2025 APEC Summit Welcome Dinner held in Gyeongju on the 31st, several world leaders including Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, immediately pulled out their phones when G-Dragon began to perform. President Lee Jaemyung watched G-Dragon's stage while speaking with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The official diner was attended by over 400 key figures, including President Lee and his wife, leaders and spouses from 21 APEC member and guest nations, representatives from international organizations, top global CEOs, and more. The event was hosted by Cha Eunwoo, who is currently serving in the military.

Among the performances prepared, G-Dragon's stage seemed to have captivated the world leaders. G-Dragon appeared wearing a hat that looked like the traditional Korean headwear 'Gat' and introduced himself to the audience, saying, "I'm singer G-Dragon, APEC 2025 Korea Ambassador." He then performed 'POWER,' which was released last October.

During his performance, Prime Minister Carney, along with Chilean Foreign Minister Alberto van Klaveren, and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's wife, Tinanont Niramit, were spotted filming the performance. President Xi Jinping was also captured listening to Presiden Lee Jaemyung explain something while watching G-Dragon's stage.

Later, President Xi Jinping smiled as he was handed a paper butterfly during the children's choir performance. The choir members came down from the stage during their performance to hand the paper butterflies to the guests seated in the front rows. This was reportedly meant to represent the cultural performance's theme: 'Journey of Butterfly: Together, We Fly.'

Other performances included appearances by choreographers Leejung and Honey J, known for their work in the Netflix animation 'K-Pop Demon Hunters,' and violinist Kim Yuna.

The menu at the dinner was developed by Chef Edward Lee, which blended Korean and Western cuisine.Korean dishes such as namul bibimbap and galbijjim using ingredients from Gyeongju were served, along with Western dishes like pies and caramel desserts.

Hearts2Hearts Jiwoo says she has never once contacted her older brother

Seulgi: How is your relationship with your older brother?

Jiwoo: We are not close!

Jiwoo: I've never contacted my brother separately, not even once. We are just not close.

Seulgi: Really?

'We only know that each other is alive, that’s all'

Jiwoo: It's not like we fight or have a bad relationship. I just simply never contacted him.

Me too, Jiwoo-yaã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

-Exactlyã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ It's not like I'm on bad terms with my brother, we're just... Awkward? Distant? with each otherã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ I always say that even fighting or having bad terms means there's some kind of closenessã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

-That can happen. We live in the same house, but we're not close...? He's just like a person I share living space with.

-Me too, but with my younger brotherã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ I haven't seen or talked to him in years. Since I haven't heard that he died, he must be alive then.

-Honestly, there's just no reason to contact him. I only message him when necessary, and his replies are just 'ok' or 'yeah'ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

-I love how honest Jiwoo is.

-I'm close with my brother, but we don't contact each other... We're still friendly when we meet occasionally because our parents call us, though.

-I don't contact my brother as well. I'm not even interested in him.

-Same here. We're not on bad terms. When we meet, we get along just fine, but I've literally never contacted him personally in my life.

-I only text him when I need the Netflix password.

-This is hilariousã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ My family is just like that to. We just check if everyone's still aliveã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

-Me too. It's not that we have a bad relationship, we just don't have anything to talk about.

-Me too. When we meet, we talk just fine. I just never really felt the need to contact him.

-Me too. It's kinda hard to explain, though... It's like we're just strangers who happen to be relatedã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ My mom tells me how he's doing anyway.

-And when something big happens at home, we end up leaning on each other anyway. Even if we’re not close, family’s still family.
