Dispatch wins 'Journalist of the Month' award for reporting Song Mino's public service duties neglect

 

Dispatch’s social and entertainment journalists Kim Jiho and Kim Sojung have won the 412th Journalist of the Month Award (Category 2: Investigative Reporting).

The Korean Journalists Association (President Park Jong-hyun) held the 412th Journalist of the Month Award ceremony at the Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul at 11 AM on the 23rd. A total of 9 entries were selected for the award.

JTBC won the first category for investigative reporting for their coverage of the sexual harassment case at Lotteria, while Dispatch won the second category for investigative reporting. Meanwhile, KBS Chuncheon won the broadcasting category for their documentary.

Dispatch's award-winning report, "Tracking Public Service Duty Negligence by a K-pop Idol," exposed WINNER's Song Mino for neglecting his public service duties. Reporters Kim Jiho and Kim Sojung also highlighted vulnerabilities in the attendance reporting system.

The two journalists also urged the need to implement electronic recording systems like attendance cards in their report. Following Dispatch's report, the Military Manpower Administration immediately responded and launched an investigation into the public service negligence.

The police are currently investigating Song Mino for alleged violations of the Military Service Act. On the 6th the 'Song Mino Prevention Act' was introduced. The Mayor of Seoul City, Oh Sehun, also ordered an emergency investigation into the status of public service workers.

Journalist Kim Sojung commented, "Other (public service workers) were performing their duties properly. Song Mino did not come to work for over a month. I believe it's necessary to make changes when someone is exploiting the system."

Song Mino's alleged 'negligent service,' only went to work 2-3 times in 10 months...? "He just played games even when he went to work"

New testimonies continue to surface regarding the allegations of negligent military service that Winner's Song Mino is currently facing.

On the December 27th broadcast of SBS 'Curious Stories Y', the episode focused on Song Mino, who has been embroiled in a controversy over his negligent military service.

Song Minho was later transferred to a community facility management role, where an official also pointed out his lack of attendance, stating, “I only saw him two or three times in 10 months.” The official added, “I heard he attended work regularly when he was at the headquarters. There were 200 people watching there, but here, there are only 13 employees."

C, the director who is suspected of having shown favoritism to Song Mino, cautiously responded, "If I say something wrong, it might affect Mino negatively. I'll talk about it later if I get a chance."

A journalist who was investigating Song Mino's allegations reported, "There are reports of him sitting around while playing games or brought a laptop to view his sheet music, and even using a keyboard he brought along. It’s also said that he didn’t spend much time at the workplace.”

What caught the most attention were his tattoos. "Right Posture" was inked on his left shoulder blade, "Clear Mind" on his right, and "PLAY BY" across his waist.

A party attendee told Dispatch, "Song Minho drank alcohol and smoked while enjoying the party." There were no signs of social anxiety or panic disorder.

His selective social anxiety was also apparent in his hobbies. It has been reported that has been focusing on fitness ahead of his discharge by joining a 'running crew.' A member of the running crew sent an email to Dispatch saying, "Song Mino participates in group marathons with us. Recently, he even attempted a 20km run. He’s lost a lot of weight."

In fact, Song Mino is actively preparing for his comeback. A representative from the "resident welfare facility" revealed, "Song Mino is losing weight through running and building his body through personal training."

Both the Military Manpower Administration (MMA) and the police have launched investigations into the allegations of duty negligence against Winner Song Mino's military service. The report claimed that snce transferring to Mapo Resident Welfare Facility in March, Song Mino had occassionaly shown up for work, signing in, smoke a cifarette, and then disappear, causing significant controversy.

Regarding these allegations, A stated, "As the investigation is ongoing, I cannot confirm specific details about his negligence." However, he cautiously responded about Song Mino's condition based on his observations. A mentioned that Song Mino has been diagnosed with panic disorder and bipolar disorder, saying, "He is unable to carry out normal activities. His body is almost constantly under the influence of medication." He added, "There are periods when his symptoms, such as panic attacks, get worse. Particularly in March, as well as in October, November, and December."

In fact, Song Mino has been receiving treatment for a long time due to conditions such as panic disorder and bipolar disorder. He was classified as Level 4 during his military physical examination, making him eligible for alternative service.

A explained, "When Song Mino transferred to this facility in March, the MMA, our facility and Song Mino himself had a meeting. At the time, the MMA discussed assigning tasks that wouldn't draw attention to Song Mino, and considering his discomfort with being seen by other employees, we decided to provide him with a separate rest area."

Song Mino, who is scheduled for military discharge on the 23rd, is currently on sick leave and is facing allegations of duty negligence. A stted, "I understand that the MMA has requested that Song Mino submit materials to explain the allegations of irregular attendance." He added, "While his discharge is unlikely to be delayed at this point, if problems are found, future penalties or actions will depend on the investigation."
