Son of famous celebrity couple sent to prosecution for assault and threat charges

(Translation of the chat down below)

The son of a famous celebrity couple has been sent to the prosecution on charges of assaulting and threatening his wife during their marriage.

According to Newsis on the 30th, Guri Police Station in Gyeonggi Province sent Mr. A (31) to the Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office on September 30 on charges including violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (such as assaulting a driver), threats, and obstruction of business.

Mr. A is accused of hitting his then-wife, Ms. B (28), in the face while she was trying to drive in Gyomun-dong area, Guri, on the morning of September 29 last year. He also allegedly took her phone to prevent her from calling the police and threatened her.

Mr. A and Ms. B finalized their divorce on March 5 this year after a mediation agreement was reached.

In an interview with Newsis, Ms. B stated, "He had a bad temper and tendency to be physically aggressive when were dating and during our marriage. At the time, I endured it because we were engaged and going to get married anyway. I didn't want to make him a criminal or go to the hospital."

She added, "I wish I could go back to before I met him. I don't even care about what happened to me, but what my family had to go through was too severe."

Mr. A's side countered, "Sometimes, you might quarrel and fight a little with your girlfriend. Nothing has been decided yet."

Below is the translation of the chat:

Ms. B: We were moving boxes. He was completely useless and I literally wanted to kill him, what should I do? We were arguing because he was upset that I was treating him disrespectfully, and then he hit me. I was wearing glasses, and he hit me on the face between my head and my eye. When I said I would report the assault, he took my phone away."

Friend: Does he do that often?

Ms. B: No. But he's been like this lately, though this is the first time he hit me.

Friend: No matter how angry you are, you can't hit someone. Tell him that.

Ms. B: Exactly. I haven't said anything yet because we still have the moving stuff. But I'm going to tell him properly.

Friend: Yes, finish moving first, and then talk to him seriously.

Ms. B: We're still in the middle of moving a lot of stuff.

Friend: Take care of the move well, and then talk to him seriously about the physical aggression.

Ms. B: He told me he hit me because I deserved it. I had to drive the car after moving some boxes, but I hadn't taken my morning medication because it makes me sleepy. He started screaming at me, telling me to take my medicine and saying I was crazy for not taking it.

Friend: No, you didn't do anything to deserve getting hit. That's a dangerous thing to say.

Ms. B: I asked him why he was acting like that when I hadn't taken the medicine so I could drive, and he said it was because I was being disrespectful again. He kept telling me to take my medicine and then said he was going to call a chauffeur, even though it's only a 5-minute drive. I was so upset and frustrated that I took the medicine and just drove myself since it was close by. He was afraid I would report him, so he took my phone away, and when he grabbed it, he twisted my wrist, so my right wrist hurts now.

Court rules "NewJeans must maintain their exclusive contract with ADOR

On October 30, the court ruled that NewJeans must uphold their exclusive contract with ADOR. The court stated, "The dismissal of former CEO Min Heejin alone is not a good enough reason for contract termination." The court added that NewJeans can continue to plan and do their activities even without former CEO Min Heejin.

The court further stated that the conflict between Min Heejin and HYBE started from Min Heejin's side, claiming that she attempted to create bad public opinion about HYBE because she wanted to take ADOR and NewJeans out of the company. As a result, HYBE conducted an audit and eventually dismissed her.

The Seoul Central District Court Civil Agreement Division 41 ruled in favor of ADOR in the lawsuit filed to confirm the validity of the exclusive contract with NewJeans. This ruling comes about 11 months after NewJeans held a press conference on 28 November 2024 to announce 'cancellation of exclusive contract with ADOR.'

Will ADOR and NewJeans' contracts stay valid? ... First court ruling today

The court is set to deliver a ruling on the contract dispute between NewJeans and ADOR today, October 30.

The Seoul Central District Court Civil Division 41 will announce its verdict at 9:50 AM today in the lawsuit filed by ADOR against the five NewJeans member to confirm that their exclusive contracts are valid.

The court previously attempted mediation twice in August and September, but since both sides failed to reach an agreement, the case will be closed with today's verdict.

Last November, NewJeans claimed that ADOR had violated their exclusive contract, declaring that the contract had been terminated and announced their plans to pursue independent activities.

In response, ADOR filed a lawsuit in December, arguing that the contracts were still valid. They also filed an injunction to prevent the members from pursuing individual activities until a final ruling was made.

The court granted ADOR's injunction, but NewJeans objected and even appealed the decision, but was dismissed. As a result, they are restricted from any independent activities without ADOR's prior approval until the final verdict today.

In May, the court also approved ADOR's request for a indirect compulsory order, ruling that if NewJeans engages in an independent activities, each member would have to pay 1 billion KRW to ADOR per violation.

In this main lawsuit, both sides argued over whether the exclusive contracts are stil valid and whether there are legitimate reason to terminate the contract.

ADOR claims, "The exclusive contract with the company is still valid and the company have fully supported them. There is absolutely no reason to terminate the contract." In contrast, NewJeans argues, "Trust was broken following the removal of former CEO Min Heejin," among other issues.

Unlike criminal trials, attendance is not mandatory in civil trials. However, all five NewJeans members personally appeared in court during the injunction hearing in March. Minji and Danielle also attended the first mediation session held in August.

Yonhap News

[+43][-13] ADOR and HYBE fired Min Heejin, who was the core producer behind NewJeans, without any discussion with the members, and they had no backup plan after her dismissal. So, NewJeans are not terminating their contract just because they're 'upset,' just like what the haters want to believe. NewJeans terminated their contract due to complete breakdown of trust, because these companies acted like they were trying to ruin NewJeans.

[+50][-29] If this contract is nullified, every contract in South Korea might as well just be worthless scrap paper...

[+25][-13] They just have to pay the 600 billion KRW penalty... They should stick to the contract. Why are they being so unreasonable!?? Go ask your so-called 'spiritual mother' Ms. Min to pay it for you.

[+33][-22] I heard ADOR still provided staff support for them even when they were carrying out unauthorized solo activities... That's so mean of them.

[+22][-1] There is clearly a contract... And now they're just throwing a tantrum because they want to leave without paying the penalty because they feel 'upset'? That's not right. And they even went as far as to raise the issue at the National Assembly, claiming to be victims of workplace harassment. What about the other rookie group who got flooded with hate comments and suffered mentally because of all this mess?

CBX responds to SM Ent.'s statement: "We want to rebuild trust with EXO's members"

On October 30, CBX's agency, INB100, issued an official response to SM Ent. recent statement. Below is INB100's full statement in response to SM Ent.'s:

SM Ent. official statement 1)
"The only thing we demanded from the three members was for them to pay 10% of their individual activity revenue, as set out in the original agreement from 18 June 2023. This payment has not yet been made."

CBX's response:
CBX has not changed their intention to pay the 10% revenue. Since the lawsuit is still ongoing, they plan to make the payment as soon as an agreement is reached and the legal procedures are finalized.

SM Ent. official statement 2)
"As for group activities, as the trust between both sides has been severely damaged through numerous disputes and because EXO as a group, its members, and fans were deeply hurt, it is only natural that the three members show genuine effort to rebuild trust by fulfilling the existing contract."

CBX's response:
All negotiations were carried out based on the condition of 'EXO's full-group activities.' CBX clearly expressed their intention to follow the existing agreement, have been directly communicating with the other members, and have been making efforts to remain as part of the team.

SM Ent. official statement 3)
"The three members' claim that they clearly accepted all of SM Ent.'s conditions after the second mediation on October 2 is false. They actually filed an objection on the 16th, contrary to their claims."

CBX's response:
CBX had informed SM Ent. of their intention to pay the 10% of individual activity revenue before and after the mediation session and they were waiting for SM Ent.'s final reply. However, the amount presented by the mediator on October 2 was calculated independently and unrelated to both parties' agreement. Therefore, both sides stated they could not accept that specific amount at the mediation. When this amount was officially delivered in a document, both sides filed objection on October 16. This was just a standard legal procedure. SM Ent's claim that CBX doesn't want to reach an agreement is false.

We sincerely apologize to the fans who may have felt confused or concerned during this legal process with SM Ent.

CBX will faithfully uphold the existing agreement and do our best to rebuild trust with the members and reach an agreement with SM Ent.

Thank you.
