An entertainment industry insider reveals the reasons why idol trainees get cut off

A currently active staff of an idol agency shares shocking real cases of why some idol trainees got fired:

"I've worked with both female and male idols. Across all those experiences, there were three cases that I found truly shocking.

The first one was a trainee who was very talented and diligent. The kind of trainee that everyone thought could become the main vocalist of the group. As usual, the agency called in trainees' parents for a consultation. I wasn't part of the rookie development team, but I happened to see the meeting from a distance. Something about the father just felt... off. I got this bad feeling.

After that meeting, that trainee suddenly disappeared. I asked the rookie development team about what happened, and they called me into the conference rom. They told me, "His father is a criminal." They didn't exactly said what kind, but it turned out that he had served a prison sentence. Not for something extreme like sexual assault or murder, but still... He was a criminal. So the agency decided not to debut that trainee.

If the father is a criminal, there must be a victim involved. And it's just not right for a family member of someone who made others cry blood tears to have career that receives love from the public. Some might argue that the trainee didn't do anything wrong, and that's true. But the agency are just not willing to take on that kind of risk. It takes a lot of money to produce an idol after all.

The second case was a male trainee as well. He was also incredibly diligent, extremely dedicated. The kind of trainee who would show up before everyone else to practice early. He was young too, so everyone thought he had great potential.

But one day, he was just gone. I asked the rookie development team where he went. I learned that all trainees undergo growth plate tests, since you know... Height is important. The result said his maximum height was predicted to be 165cm. Height is something that you just can't change. Even with modern medicine, the most he could possibly reach was 167cm. If he could've reached at least 170cm, maybe there'd be hope. But he was under 170cm."

-Firing a trainee just because of height is so cruel... If he had an incredibly small face and excellent visuals, they'd let him debut even if he was just 168cm tall.

-Getting fired just because of a growth plate test result... That is so unfair.

-This might be harsh, but also realistic. Idols make money off their looks and image, after all.

-There are a few short male idols, though...? Why..?ㅠㅠ

-My cousin has no family members over 170cm tall and he grew super slowly. But then, he suddenly grew to 173c at the age of 19ㅠㅠ Firing someone just based on a growth plate test result is just so cruelㅠ

-Honestly, there's no job better than being an idol for a short, good-looking guy.

-The trainee with the criminal father... That's heartbreaking... He lost his dream because of something that was not even his faultㅠㅠ Especially since he was almost ready to debut tooㅜㅜ

-There are quite a few short male idols... Maybe his skills weren't good enough to make up for it.

-There's definitely demand for short male idols, though... What a shame.

-That's understandable... Agencies are investing billions of KRW to produce idols.

-Even big agencies debut male idols under 170cm these days...

-At the end of the day, this is business that involves money and investment. No one wants to take unnecessary risks.

-The cold truth is... Maybe that second trainee didn't have enough strengths to outweigh his weakness.

-It actually makes sense. It's okay for female idols to be short, but not for male idols...

-Growth plate tests are not even that accurate. Maybe his visuals and skills weren't good enough for the agency to take that risk.

-I actually understand the height issue. Looks are everything for idols. 165cm tall is just way too risky. If anything, the trainee who got fired because of his father is more pitiful.

This is unrelated, but... I used to be a fan of a nugu girl group

This is unrelated, but... I used to be a fan of a nugu girl group.

There were only three of us fangirls: my friend, me, and one other.

Their manager used to tell us which floor they parked on while we were waiting for the fan signing event to start. That's how small their fandom was.

Then one day, my bias suddenly told me that I had to come to the next week's fan signing event. She was so insistent. But as a student, I couldn't go because I had exams next week.

Through my friend, I received a post-it note that said:

"Youngie-ya, I miss you. I will miss you. I love you"

And that fan signing event turned out to be their last one before the group disbanded.

theqoo

-Wait a minute...ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

-That’s so sadㅜㅜ

-Whoa... This is so heartbreaking...

-Ah... That's why she insisted the OP should come, because it was going to be her last fan signing event...

-Ah... If I were OP, I'd never forget that for the rest of my life...ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

-I'm tearing upㅠㅠㅜㅜㅠ

-ㅠㅠI hope that idol’s doing wellㅠㅠ

-Ah, this is so sadㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ The OP must've been like a friend to her, not just a fanㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ

-The OP must've been a supportive friend as well as a fan for that idolㅜㅜㅜ It's so sad to know that they couldn't see each other one last timeㅜㅜ

-Ahㅜㅜㅜ It must've felt like losing contact with a friendㅜㅜㅜㅜ

-Why am I crying?

-When a group flops and disbands, fans can never see them againㅠㅠ Especially when they’re not famous enough to appear on TV again…

-That member was really kind…

W Korea issues an apology statement

Hello, this is W Korea.

Our 'Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign: Love Your W' began in 2006, and for 20 years, we have worked hard to raise awareness about the importance of early breast cancer screening. However, there has been criticism that the event held on October 15th did not align appropriately with the campaign's purpose in terms of its composition and execution, and we take this matter seriously.

Above all, we offer our deepest apologies for causing discomfort and distress to breast cancer patients and their families by failing to consider their perspectives.

Furthermore, we deeply regret that many people who joined the campaign with good intentions and resonated with the campaign's purpose may have been hurt or troubled by this controversy.

We are deeply reflecting on our shortcomings and on the pain this incident has caused.

Over the years, this campaign's goal has been raising awareness about the importance of early breast cancer screening and supporting low-income patients through the activities of the Korea Breast Cancer Foundation.

We will continue to review and improve on our shortcomings based on the various criticisms and feedback we've received, so that the heartfelt sincerity and support shown toward this campaign will not lose their light. We will also use this incident as an opportunity to re-examine the entire planning and execution process of our events in the future.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
W Korea.

-Where's the donation money then?

-Just go get audited.

-Why did it take them this long to apologize?

-Why did they disable their Instagram comments?

-Drop 'Korea' from your name. What gives you the right to use it when you act like this?

-I feel like they're suddenly deleting evidence now that the money issue has come up... They must be hiding a lot of things.

-Please cooperate with an investigation and be transparent from now on.

-Don't act like this was only a problem this year. Let's start with an investigation.

-Whoa... What an insincere apologyㅋㅋㅋ

-Disclose the donation details too.

-They only apologizes now that the money issue comes u...

-Oh... There's definitely something shady. Get investigated.

-It must've taken a long time for them to apologize because they had to delete evidences first, huh?

-An apology is one thing. They still should face an audit.

-Why does it seem like they are running away?

-Embezzlement? Money laundering?
