A Taiwanese cheerleader will appear in the KBO League for the first time.
On the 21st, the LG Twins revealed their cheerleader lineup (14 members) for the new season. While Lee Jooeun, famous for the 'Pikki Pikki' dance, was excluded from the list, a Taiwanese member of an idol group has joined, drawing significant attention.
Previously, many Korean cheerleaders advanced to the Taiwanese stage and gained popularity like celebrity. In contrast, Taiwanese cheerleaders' activities in Korea had been limited to other sports like soccer and basketball. Therefore, this marks the first case in the KBO League.
The new addition is Rona, a Taiwanese member of the group ILY:1. Rona, the only Taiwanese member in the group, previously competed in 'Girls Planet 999' in 2022. She will be taking on a new challenge as an LG cheerleader this season.
Rona shared her determination, saying, "I will do my best to cheer for LG's victory." The public is now focused on whether this will bring new changes to KBO cheerleading.
Meanwhile, Lee Jooeun, born in 2004, was active as a cheerleader for the KIA Tigers until 2024 and gained massive global popularity through a video of her performing the 'Pikki Pikki' dance. Afterward, she moved between Taiwan and Korea, working as a cheerleader for both the CPBL and KBO leagues.
Lee Jooeun will be taking a break this season. On the 21st, she posted on her social media account, "I have decided to take some time off to rest this year. I will work hard to greet you again soon with a better version of myself."
