Lee Jungjae and Lim Jiyeon's comic romance 'Mean Love' confirmed for the second half of the year

Article from today:

It was also revealed that global stars Lee Jungjae and Lim Jiyeon’s comic romance drama 'Mean Love' has been confirmed for the second half of the year, drawing attention.

Article from last year:

According to OSEN’s report on the 20th, Lee Jungjae and Lim Jiyeon received an offer to star in 'Mean Love,' the new drama written by 'Dr. Cha' writer Jung Yeorang, and were reported to be positively considering it. They recently decided to star in it.

'Mean Love' is a refreshing drama about a forcibly recalled male actor and a former political journalist who has now become an entertainment reporter. Expectations are high as this is the new work of writer Jung Yeorang, who received positive responses for her previous work 'Dr. Cha', which recorded the highest viewer ratings of 18.5%.

Lim Hyunjoon, played by Lee Jungjae, is an actor who specializes in 'detective' roles who dreams of becoming a 'melodrama master' and 'rom-com prince.' He is more famous for his drama character name, Kang Pilgu, than his real name. As he prepares for the filming of 'Good Detective Kang Pilgu Season 5,' he finds himself trapped in his righteous detective image, causing him to be stressed. Having played the same type of role for years, he falls into a rut and wants to transform his image by playing different roles in rom-coms or melodramas.

Lim Jiyeon will be playing as Wi Jungshin, a former political journalist who won the 'Journalist of the Year' award but has now been reassigned to the entertainment section of a sports newspaper. Despite being reassigned after digging into a big political case, she remains committed to her journalistic integrity. She is determined to uncover the hidden corruption that connects politics and the entertainment industry when she unexpectedly finds herself fangirling over Lim Hyunjoon after watching 'Good Detective Kang Pilgu'. However, she soon experiences great confusion between her admiration for the charismatic Kang Pilgu on-screen and her real-life encounters with the annoying Lim Hyunjoon.

-The age difference...

-Huh... Are they going to have a romance plot...? No way...?

-They look like an uncle and niece.

-The age gap is creepy, seriously...

-Ah, they really don’t suit each otherㅠ An 18-year age difference is just insane.

-...Aren’t they more like a father and daughter??

-They should’ve just met in 'Squid Game 3' instead.

-Even though Lim Jiyeon doesn’t have a super baby-faced look, they still look like an uncle and niece.

-I support Lim Jiyeon. I really loved 'The Tale of Lady Ok'ㅜㅜㅠ So I hope she does well. Wishing her success!

-A romance between a man in his 50s and a woman in her 30s... That’s probably the dream of most 50-year-old men.

-They don't suit each other.

-Are there no other male actors?ㅠ

-No, this is seriously too much.

-If they were going to get married, they would have done it already… Maybe they don't get married because that is the best for them.

-Do they really still have to hear about marriage at their age...?ㅠㅋㅋㅋㅋ So tiring, seriouslyㅋㅋ

-I feel like they’ll just continue like this. With their individual wealth, getting married and possibly divorcing would make things legally complicated. They probably don’t want to deal with that.

-This country is so obsessed with marriage and dating.

-Are they going to have to hear, 'Why aren’t you married yet?' until they die?ㅋㅋㅋ

-They're doing just fine, so leave them alone.

-I really don’t think they’ll ever get marriedㅋㅋㅋ Why would they?

-Do they really need to get married? I'm sure they'll figure it out on their own.

-They both have a lot to lose, so I don't think they'll get married. There’s no need to anyway.

-How many times do I have to say it... Take it vertically!!

-Why is he taking the picture horizontally...

-Why do they even need to get married?

-They've been together for so long. They’re basically a married couple.

-ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ The fact that he's taking the picture horizontally bothers me...

-I can't believe he's taking her picture horizontally...

This project brings together writer Jung Yeorang, previously known for her mega-hit drama 'Doctor Cha', and director Kim Garam, previously known for blockbuster 'Good Partner', with Studio New in charge of production.

-Are you kidding me?

-He could be her dad.

-Can't they cast someone more realistic for the male lead...? Lee Jungjae is cool, but he doesn't suit to be Im Jiyeon's romantic partner.

-18-year age gap? It's not even uncle-niece kind of age gap, it's practically father-daughter kind of age gap.

-Are there really no other actors available?ㅋ

-The age gap is too bigㅜㅜ

-That's gross.

-Seems like they've lost their mindsㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

-I mean... I like Lee Jungjae, but this is bafflingㅠ Why?

-Replace one of them... They don't suit each other;;; Well, their ages don't look good together.

-A rom-com...? And the romantic partner is Im Jiyeon...? What's with the age gap?

-The character's name is Jungsook again????

-18-year age gap and a romance...?;;;

-Please change one of them...ㅠ

-Rom-com...?? The age gap is too creepy.

-He's way too old for this.

-Isn’t she like... his daughter?

-They're from the same agency...

-Im Jiyeon is dating Lee Dohyun in real life and then there's this...?

Actor who is expected to have the highest fee of 1 Billion KRW in South Korea

As "Squid Game" has gained tremendous popularity and worldwide fame, it was already speculated that the leading actors' fees would increase. In particular, since Lee Jung-jae is an indispensable key actor for "Squid Game" Season 2, whatever fee he demands must be justified. If Lee Jung-jae indeed receives over 1 billion won per episode, it would be the highest guarantee fee ever paid in South Korea.

This is seen as a tribute to Lee Jung-jae, who contributed significantly to the success of "Squid Game." According to an official from a broadcasting content production company, "Considering the financial strength of Netflix, which produced 'Squid Game,' Lee Jung-jae's appearance fee could exceed 1 billion won per episode. Given the global interest in 'Squid Game' and the perspective of 'this person deserves recognition,' it could be rationalized."

Paying 1 billion won per episode with domestic capital alone would be challenging. The official added, "If Lee Jung-jae is cast in a different project other than 'Squid Game' and sold overseas, it may not generate as much revenue as 'Squid Game.' For a six-part series, it would be 6 billion won. Casting him for 10 billion won per episode amid uncertainty about generating that level of profit poses a risk burden."

"Squid Game 2" reportedly includes incentives for the success of the first season, offered by the headquarters.

-I understand even if he asks for more.

-It's understandable to receive that much for "Squid Game." It's still less compared to Hollywood actors.

-"Squid Game" is Netflix's all-time No.1... Considering the profits, that amount might be considered low. It's from the U.S. headquarters anyway.

-It's understandable if "Squid Game" actors receive even more. Now it's global Hollywood-level productions, not just Korean dramas. It shouldn't be compared to other local dramas.

-It's "Squid Game," after all.

-If he wasn't from South Korea, 1 billion won wouldn't mean anything... He would probably even receive double. He only received that much because he's a Korean actor.

-Considering how much money "Squid Game" made, it's understandable.

-It's "Squid Game," then what can you say? It's worth it.

-There are actors in Korea who receive 500 million, so 1 billion for "Squid Game" is actually considered cheap.

-"Squid Game" earned in the tens of billions...

-They should pay him more for this. How much did "Squid Game" make?

-Lee Jung-jae deserves it.

-"Squid Game" is an exception.
