'Curtain Up, Class!' Kangnam: "The variety show that stressed me out the most. I had to be very careful"

'Curtain Up, Class!' is a variety show about a unique after-school theater class at a small rural elementary school. Kim Taeri takes on the role of the theater teacher, while Choi Hyunwook and Kangnam challenge themselves as assistant teachers. Meanwhile, Code Kunst participates as the music director for the play.

On this day, Kangnam said, "I've filmed many variety shows. This is the first variety show to stress me out."

As the oldest among the other cast, Kangam was asked about the atmosphere on set. He replied, "I had to be careful. I was totally on edge. It was the variety show that stressed me out the most."

He added, "I think I cried two or three times. Each time I cried, my emotional state was different."

COMMENTS:

-After watching Ep 1 and 2, I can understand what the atmosphere was like.

-Kangnam is very honest. I think he just said it as it is.

-I somehow feel like Kangnam's vibe doesn't really match the other cast members. Not to mention that he's also the oldest one there.

-The atmosphere on set must be very serious then I guess...

-Hulㅋㅋㅋㅋ If Kangnam had to be that careful, then it probably wasn't just the editing... The atmosphere must've really been like that.

-I can see why. It looks so freaking uncomfortable.

-Kim Taeri kept snapping at people anytime and anywhere. She even scolded them while they were eatingㅋㅋ They’re going to get an upset stomach at this point.

-I used to like Kim Taeri, but her real personality gives me PTSD of the boss I hate the most. At least Taeri seems to have some manners though.

'Teacher' Kim Taeri explodes at 'Assistant Teacher' Choi Hyunwook's attitude ... "There wasn't a single part I was satisfied with"

In this episode, the two headed out for an outdoor class on the third day of class, but things didn't go smoothly.

The 'main teacher' Kim Taeri asked 'assistant teacher' Choi Hyunwook to lead a 'warm-up recreation' session as the first period of the outdoor class. Choi Hyunwook appeared to begin the warm-up, but faced problems from the start and couldn't continue.

Watching this, Kim Taeri helped the confused Choi Hyunwook by saying, "Looks like the music isn't working, so let's start without it!" and redirected the children's attention to save the situation.

The warm-up game began, but because the instructions were not clear, the children couldn't focus on the game. Seeing this, Kim Taeri tried to raise the energy by stepping in to lead the game instead of Choi Hyunwook.

After finishing the somewhat disappointing outdoor class and sending the children home, the two gathered again. Reflecting on the class, Kim Taeri said, "We need something that can grab their focus at the beginning. The warm-up time is really important, so I want you to prepare better."

Choi Hyunwook replied, "If there's nothing to do until tomorrow's class, I was planning to drive 10 minutes away and go for a run." Kim Taeri responded in disbelief, "What about preparing for class?"

While they disagreed on how to prepare the class, Kim Taeri brought up the disappointing outdoor class and pointed out, "There wasn't a single part of what you did that I'm 100% satisfied with."

Choi Hyunwook responded, "How can I satisfy you 100%? I didn't prepare as much as you did, but I think I did what I needed to do here," expressing his frustration as their disagreement intensified, drawing sympathy from viewers.

COMMENTS:

-I think it was a mistake to put two people together who are originally too comfortable with each other.

-I’ve thought this before, but maybe it’s better for her to just quietly focus on acting.

-This show doesn't seem to fit Kim Taeri's personality. I understand she feels pressured because the show literally has her name on it (NB: the literal translation of the show title is 'Taeri-Ssaem After Class'), but the way she kept nitpicking Choi Hyunwook is so off-putting.

-Kim Taeri is an amazing actress, but I always feel disappointed whenever I hear about her private life. Starring in variety shows seem to highlight those negative parts of her.

-This is a total miscasting. It was so uncomfortable to watch.

-Did the production team not give them a clear direction or a guide? It feels like they were filming two completely different shows;;

-I don't even like Choi Hyunwook that much, but this seems a bit over the top..ㅠ

-Kim Taeri does not suit variety shows at all. I was really surprised to see how sensitive she is.

-Maybe she's just a perfectionist...?

-Even watching the short clips suffocate me.

-Aren't variety shows supposed to be fun to watch? I think the viewers will feel uncomfortable watching this.

tvN's 'Curtain Up, Class!' is a new reality variety show that follows the world's one and only after-school theater class at a small village elementary school. Kim Taeri, Choi Hyunwook, and Kangnam have confirmed their appearances, raising expectations for the show.

Kim Taeri takes on a new challenge with her first-ever regular appearance on a variety show since her debut. Having showcased a wide acting spectrum across genres from romance, sci-fi, historical, and even to traditional Korean theater, she is now taking the role of an elementary school theater class teacher. Kim Taeri actually started her acting career in a university theater club, drawing even more attention to her journey as a teacher.

Choi Hyunwook and Kangnam are joining Kim Taeri as assistant teachers. Choi Hyunwook will serve as the class' counselor who listens even to the smallest concerns of the children, while occasionally bringing laughter with his clumsy charm. The addition of Kangnam, who is known for his friendliness, is also highly anticipated. With his unrivaled friendliness, he is set to be the class' mood-maker. The chaotic chemistry between the three first-time teachers and the elementary school students is expected to be the key highlight of the show.
