The movie 'The Sword: A Legend of the Red Wolf' is a blockbuster historical action set after the fall of Goguryeo. It follows the story of a man who lost his memory and becomes a slave as he enters a gladiator tournament to claim a legendary sword.
Set in 668 AD, just after the collapse of Goguryeo, the movie takes place in Yodong Fortress (the former territory of Goguryeo). Combining history with cinematic imagination, it depicts the process of how the legendary northern sword becomes a new symbol of hope. In particular, the movie is drawing attention for featuring Goguryeo-style gladiator action, something rarely explored before. The story also features a massive arena built in Yodong Fortress, where gladiators from 16 northern tribes, including the Khitan, Mohe, and Göktürks. Their unique martial arts, tactics, and desperate battles for survival are expected to deliver an overwhelming sense of impact and catharsis for audiences.
Park Bogum will play the role of Chilsung, a warrior who lost his memory. This role marks the most radical acting transformation of his career. He will showcase a wide spectrum of performance, from the desperate survival action of a slave gladiator to the awakening of a national hero known as the 'Red Wolf.'
Juwon will play the role of Gyepil Haryeok, in opposition to Park Bogum. Kyepil Haryeok is a cold-blooded warrior representing the Göktürks in the tournament. Forming a tense rivalry with Chilsung, Juwon is expected to bring intense tension to this movie by acting with dual swords.
Jung Jaeyoung will play the role of Heuksugang, the leader of the Goguryeo revival army (Damul Army). He is the mentor who raises Chilsung into a true warrior and also a strong leader who secretly works toward the revival of Goguryeo. Lee Sunbin will play the role of Maya, a member of the revival army, showcasing her mysterious charm and intense action. Kim Hyungseo will play the role of Injeong, the daughter of Heuksugang, adding fresh energy to the plot.
Meanwhile, 'The Sword: A Legend of the Red Wolf' is a project that Director Kim Hanmin has spent years developing.
